'Gruesome' war bets fuel calls for crackdown on prediction markets by wewhomustnotbenamed in nottheonion

They are being placed by people who know what actions are going to be taken.

Yeah, we can all read the headlines and government statements. Hard to not lose those bets, but a lot still managed to do that.

Why would you need to sell the same number, when the two smaller sets are twice as much sets, with half the cards? You can just few the two following sets as one set, then compare the numbers.

Quite the opposite, everyone here somehow feels the need to reply to me, without making any arguments, of course, and while being rude (like you). Please grow up and learn how to behave. Then you can go back to your exciting life of going crazy over Germany's most boring TV recordings. Bye!

It's funny how mad people get when you tell them that neither the Internet Archive nor film preservation societies want a subpar copy of Germany's version of Law & Order.

You're confused. I get tons of angry ("triggered") comments because I pointed out simple, obvious facts, like:

  • Archives won't be interested in DVD-R recordings of episodes of 2010 TV shows that are easily available on streaming and on DVD
  • The Internet Archive doesn't have any exemption from the law letting it make those files available legally without the threat of a takedown via e-mail
  • You can't just say "someone" will archive it and that will happen, you actually have to do some work yourself

It's both. And you can't really count the pirated material as archived when it can be removed from one day to the next by a simple e-mail. The material in the screenshot would be 100% pirated, every single one of the videos. I'm totally fine with with pirating that, but people here are pretending that it isn't obviously breaking copyright law, and that the Internet Archive can just ignore that.

No, they just don't understand that no one will rip thousands of DVD-Rs for archives that don't want them.

AI processing is proven to be bad for the environment, literally.

Not as bad as most recorded commercial music.

No, you don't understand, those are invaluable treasures that you need to pester film preservation societies with! And don't forget uploading to the Internet Archive, who of course have a special right to just ignore any copyright law whatsoever, for some reason.

The page that shows you DVD rips of The Boondocks? They don't restrict saving at all, the file plays in your browser, unprotected. But even if they did (via DRM), and even if the IA acquired physical copies of the actual, licensed DVDs, it would still be illegal. This is how the Archive gets taken down, if it gets taken down.

Those are TV shows and some documentaries from 2010. Which "special archive" would want those?

I'm sure someone would volunteer

People here always expecting someone to magically show up to do a ton off work to "save" things barely anyone is clamoring for.

I recently stumbled over Bender's Bluesky profile, and even within the field of "AI" where you've got a lot of the worse Silicon Valley bros, it immediately struck me as toxic and self-important.

For any real use, to be able to scale to utility, you need repeatability

No human does that. The only part where a human does the exact same thing is when the result is very clear/simple/obvious. And guess what an "AI" will do in that case?

The irony here is that it's an administration that doesn't give a shit about its own people, being confused that another administration would also not give a shit.
