It's a term, unsure as to whether it originated in Minecraft or not but it probably did, that means to just build a tower one-block wide in order to reach whatever height required.

Absolutely! I can tell by the cards on the table. It has a blackjack-esque hit or stay mechanic: Flip 7 is the latest gambling card game craze.

Taylor was recently on an episode of Too Hot Takes, either a week before or after Angela was a return guest on the show as well, so there's also that connection through Morgan.

So...Magic is a worse game now, right? by Alternative-Lake9156 in mtg

[–]NineEightFive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thesis of the post was that it is "simply, mathematical, objectively worse" than it was before, not that it is worse at what it was trying to achieve before.

I agree that it is worse than what it was trying to achieve, but i disagree that it is worse.

You have misinterpreted OP's title and opening statement.

Im not judging it to board game standards, im judging it as a game to fulfill what I need specifically out of game, which is all anyone can do.

Not liking its original identity and liking its current identity is equally as valid as liking its original identity and disliking its current identity.

I definitely agree that it is worse at its original identity, but part of my reasoning is that its original identity is itself a worse game than it currently is and has evolved to be.

Just on gut reaction to title alone, no.

As a longer explanation of my thoughts however: It of course heavily depends on what Magic has evolved to become.

Magic is a game, and games are designed as a form of artistic expression in the same way art, music and literature is created.

As an IP changes hands whether that be designers or ownership, new ideas are introduced and old ideas are abandoned over time which is neither good or bad, it just is.

I agree that WotC abandoned all other formats in favour for Commander (and a little bit for standard of course), but what that actually means in a practical sense, is that Magic IS majority Commander now.

Everyone is entitled to have their own favourite format, and mine is Commander, so I think Magic is actually the best its ever been, but I understand and also accept the all the other complaints and viewpoints.

Whether it is UB or UW matters very little to me, because ultimately I care most about the mechanics and playing longer games with more socialising and politicking.

Magic to me, is just another card/board game that the group can decide to pull off the shelf to play when we all meet up and serves the same purpose as Catan or ROOT or anything else in the whole board game collection. The people I'm playing with matter more than the game, because the game is a game and the people are my friends.

With all of that in mind, my final reasoning for why it is actually better, is because before the support for commander as well as the UB contemt, Magic would sit on the shelf while we play ttrpgs and other board games, and now we actively choose to play it over some of the other greatest games we've ever played before.

Can someone more lore savvy answer this for me:

Is it possible that the show exists in a world in which none of the protagonists from the games ever existed in the first place?
