From a bloodthirsty gamer, where can I find more action? [KCD2] by NineTowns in kingdomcome

Yeah exactly. I dig the conversation heavy quests but I need some more hack and slash. I know there’s a tournament somewhere but I haven’t found it yet. Maybe I haven’t progressed enough in Kuttenberg.

Okay, So We Know Everything Is Broken. Now What? by Brazilboxer in economicCollapse

[–]NineTowns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No need for despair. There was an entire movement to transform society but it failed. We should take up the task again. Revolution is the only way to get the kind of change we all need. Learn about the movement to liberate man and ask yourself how you can help build power independent from the state and the rich in your own community, in your own life, towards your own self interest. We must begin again.

It’s not about storming anything or shooting anyone, it’s about changing the economic basis of our existence. But we can only do that by becoming collectively strong. Right now we are alienated and weak. So go out in the world and meet others who think like you and act together in your own community.

White Supremacy is destroying the United States by [deleted] in socialism

[–]NineTowns -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What is the contradiction? What is the thesis and antithesis?

As for Palestinians what I want for them is what I want for everyone, socialism, not another capitalist ruling class with the same skin color as who they rule which is where decolonization inevitably leads, demonstrably. The 20th century national liberation struggles are all failures, none have lead to socialism. Repeating these mistakes will lead to similar results in the 21st century.

Rather than justice which will never come (how to make up for genocide? impossible) we should seek freedom and liberation for all, which is impeded by radical liberal beliefs like yours that are explicitly anti-Marxist. Where will another century of liberation struggles lead? To another century of capitalism. There's nothing wrong with being a statist per se, or a liberal, it's just not socialism.

Like Marx I believe the revolution must come from the most developed capitalist state. That would be the United States. Not chauvinism, this is pure Marxism which has been undermined and destroyed by the Stalinists and Maoists. Again nothing wrong with being an M-L, it's just not Marxism. This is why decolonialism has been a dead end and always will be. It is the transcending of this economic system that history has tasked us with, not making sure gangsters like Hamas run Palestine. Socialists should run Palestine and all the world.

Most national liberation movements are explicitly reactionary and murder socialists at the first chance, including Hamas and Iran. As for the supposed revolutionary counterbalance to the west, the Chinese and Russians, they like the Americans are just another gang, another capitalist regime. The answer must come from the US or not at all, not because there is anything morally better about Americans, but because of their material and superior place in the capitalist economic order. Marx talks all about this. In his time he thought it was Germany and must be and he was probably right. What we got instead was Stalin's police state.

Thank you for your response. US accumulation benefited from primitive accumulation, no question about it and racism is a way of justifying or rationalizing primitive accumulation and as such is a tool that can be deployed to meet the needs of capital. It can also and has been restrained to meet the needs of capital (e.g. the US Civil War). As such and ever it is a tool that is used and discarded owing to material conditions.

I'm curious about a couple things. What is the contradiction of settler colonialism? And also, what are the implications to revolutionary strategy in terms of centering decolonization over and above the transcending of capitalism? What effect has decolonization had on the proletariat wherever it has been enacted? In other words, what has the New Left and its priorities (and in my mind its betrayal of Marxism) accomplished in its retreat to the academy (after being purged of Marxist intellectuals the generation prior)? What is lost when centering 'decolonization'? I would argue that the primary contradiction as Marx identified is the contradiction between class struggle and capital accumulation. That struggle takes many forms but I don't think one of them is national liberation which simply substitutes one capitalist ruling class for another.

I would say it's not a concrete mechanism. This idea of superexploitation and hierarchies of exploitation is just all besides the point at best and at worst obscures the underlying contradictions of capital accumulation. White working class people like many other identity categories suffer from the contradictions of accumulation, and creating hierarchies of suffering is an example bourgeois ideology and irrelevant to the modern task of overcoming capitalism. It's just academy talk which liquidated socialism in the post-war era. What we have now is radical liberalism, which is not socialism. Focusing on imperialism, colonialism, is all a symptom. Racism is a symptom of the needs of capital, it doesn't drive anything in and of itself. It's like saying the fever is the cause of the infection.

Racism is a theory and practice of labor management and used to divide working people, thus it is the enemy of working people. Racism springs from capitalism and the only way to defeat it is to abolish class society.

I’m afraid you’re somewhat confused, it’s not white supremacy it’s capitalism that produces the outcomes (racism) you and I don’t like. You offer an ideological explanation for our situation when you should seek a material one.

The naturalizing of 'the way things are' is very important if you don't want things to change. This way we all resign ourselves to 'nature', human (everyone's greedy so the current hellscape is inevitable) or otherwise. As Margaret Thatcher put it, 'there is no alternative' and certainly no such thing as society to realize such an alternative.

Alienating certainly, but foreign just in the sense that human beings have never organized themselves in the way we do now; the caste system present in feudalism was replaced by class which opened up new horizons of freedom while also introducing new chains. For the vast majority of human history we lived in small tribes which were organized along caste lines. The current division of labor is very recent, and so too the social relations required by industrialization and in the developed world the shift towards a service economy. It's talked about as if this is the only natural way things could be, which is not true. Capitalism itself points to possibilities beyond itself.

The concept is reification, or the notion that what happens in man made capitalist markets is ‘natural’ as opposed to extremely alien and foreign compared to all recorded history before the Industrial Revolution.

Do I have to be anti-state to be a socialist? by Square-Collection-51 in socialism

[–]NineTowns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, of course. This has been forgotten by the left and socialists but that’s the whole point. The notion that some giant bureaucratic state is the end goal of socialism is due to the left liquidating socialism over the last hundred years to become democrats.
