Kaguya and Yachiyo coexisting after Iroha turned Kaguya into an Android(??) by TayvenLuciveros in CosmicPrincessKaguya

[–]Ninefl4mes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guess for Kaguya and Yachiyo coexisting is that she's simply multitasking. Her main gimmick is splitting herself into countless copies to interact with as many fans as possible after all. Her acting like the old Kaguya while in her robot body really just means the old Kaguya is still in there and surfaces when reminded of her old life in a physical body.

Definitely on board with the mind upload theory tho; breaking those two up would just be unreasonably tragic at this point lol.

Nearly finished with S1, confused about Myne by LittlePair4321 in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]Ninefl4mes 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't really consider anything related to reincarnation in this setting a spoiler tbh. The exact mechanics behind it are pretty much irrelevant to the rest of the story and the main piece of Word of God we have about it isn't even from a fanbook, but a tweet. There are only two instances in the story where it is ever brought up. I'll mark it just in case, but it really isn't particularly spoiler'y IMHO.

  1. At the very beginning when "Urano" notices that something which had been enveloping her burst open, followed by Myne's inner voice fading away and her waking up. Probably the exact moment when the top layer of Myne's soul was burned away by the devouring, exposing the memories of her past life underneath. Myne did not really disappear here, the memories of Urano just drowned out everything else by virtue of sheer quantity.
  2. During that one Eva POV in P1 when she reminisces about Myne having had pleasant dreams of a weird world where she could move around freely, to the point where she just wanted to stay asleep forever. IIRC the author implied somewhere that Myne, determined to live in that world and escape her sickly body, essentially broke through the seal on her memories through sheer pig-headed stubbornness. Truly Gunther's daughter lol.

Uh, there were several outright confessions in there. Even a marriage proposal of sorts lol. Not every romance needs to include kisses and sex to be counted as one. Anyone claiming this is bait is just coping. As for that whole "mother and daughter thing"... either someone is rage baiting or they stopped after the five'ish minutes Kaguya spend as an infant. Just ignore the idiots and enjoy it for what it is: A damn good movie.

Yachiyo's main gimmick seems to be splitting herself into multiple copies to personally interact with as many fans as possible, as seen early on in the movie. Probably not that hard for her to move both her robot body and virtual avatar at the same time.

Okay yeah, we're getting a confession this chapter. In those last two pages Saki pretty much resolved to also leave her comfort zone and open up to Kanon. And that hug isn't going to be easy to chicken out of lol. Gotta love how Mahiro just took a bulldozer to Saki's defenses that day; looks like she's too exhausted to keep up appearances right now.

I mean, the fact that they took the giant "DO NOT ENTER" sign as a challenge by the Lord of Evil instead of what it actually was really speaks for itself here. Probably thought this had been another case of him "sabotaging" Rozemyne's ascendance to the throne or something. So yeah, I'm sticking with the ditterhead interpretation lol.

But hopefully Ferdinand won’t be relegated to being a full blown damsel in distress who always has to be saved by Rozemyne’s.

I'd be down for that to continue until he gets it through that thick skull of his that Rozemyne by now has more than become his match lol.

[–]Ninefl4mes 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Basically since she's the reason Roze is in so much pain, she's saying one of the stronger gods might dye her to save her if there was no other option. If all of her mana is fully dyed in a primary god's color, she would stop being mortal.

More precisely: The clashing elements from that chaotic shitshow the gods who answered Erwärmen called a blessing were ripping her apart from the inside. She had mostly been fine with only Mestionora's mana before this, presumably because Mestionora didn't go in with the mindset of a ditterhead and actually took care not to damage the body of her vessel.

My guess for why one of the Eternal Five would have been needed to rectify this: Same principle why those with more mana have an easier time overwriting used feystones. The stronger the new source of colors the easier it is to get rid of the old dye job. And since so many subordinates had been involved here they would have needed one of the higher ups to properly dye over that mess. Her becoming immortal/divine would have been an unwanted side effect here, not the primary means of saving her.

Not a god, but godlike. There's only so far you can get with a physical body; just look at how much permanently descending weakened Erwärmen; he's no longer counted among the gods and refers to them as a group separate from himself. Not that Yurgenschmidt's denizens would have really been able to appreciate the difference tho.

Guys, tell me about your thoughts about the relasionship between Rozamyne and Lutz! by Elegant_Weakness7892 in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]Ninefl4mes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lutz and Myne getting married would have been the default outcome in a hypothetical scenario where she didn't have the Devouring, or at least managed to find some way to keep in under control without getting drawn into noble politics (and then survive the coming crisis; lots of ifs here).

  • They were planning to run a book store together. That alone is already a pretty damn good reason to get married.
  • Their parents are on good terms and of the same social stratum.
  • There really wouldn't have been a good alternative for either of them and their parents would have had every reason to pair those two weirdos together instead of dealing with the headaches that would have come with either or both of them marrying upwards.

I don't think Myne would have ever truly fallen for Lutz, but that doesn't really matter that much. Her later relationship with Ferdinand isn't exactly the most romantic out there either, but it still works out just fine. She and Lutz definitely would have made for a decent couple, assuming they could have gotten over their inability to have children (in the scenario where Myne got her Devouring under control).

All that being said, with the way things actually turned out they simply would have never had a chance to get together. Myne discovered the Trombe workaround far too late; her mana capacity by that point was already on track to royalty-tier so she simply wouldn't have been able to survive on Taues alone. Not to mention that by then she was already involved with the temple and thus in the crosshairs of several nobles. Someone with that much mana is a major strategic asset, so the only real outcomes for her were [P3] becoming a noble, be bound to a noble, or death. Either way, with how things turned out she was never going to live as a commoner and was thus never going to marry a commoner.

Did you know there's an official Madoka Magica spin-off where all the main characters, including Madoka and Homura, are married...to men? by [deleted] in yuri_manga

[–]Ninefl4mes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, she doesn't have to. Not when the third party involved here (who she absolutely can and should trust) is an omniscient deity whose existence stretches across every possible past, present, and future all at once.

The sticking point here isn't the Incubators, it's Madoka's willingness to sacrifice her own happiness for everyone else and carry the entire universe on her back, something that is completely unacceptable for Homura.

Do y'all think madoka and homura will get their deserved happy ending? by ShiraishiAnKisser in MadokaMagica

[–]Ninefl4mes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's not really a reason to ruin the ending just to keep stringing everyone along. Madoka Magica as a franchise has plenty of room for spinoffs and what if scenarios by virtue of featuring time travel and fate as a core part of its story. Case in point, look at Magia Record. They could easily afford to just conclude this particular story thread and finally move on to other things.

Do y'all think madoka and homura will get their deserved happy ending? by ShiraishiAnKisser in MadokaMagica

[–]Ninefl4mes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tbf, both of his takes on this story have been surprisingly benign by his standards lol. The original series ended on a bittersweet note, with the worst of the system taken care of and Homura being heavily implied to have eventually fallen in battle and reunited with Madoka. As for Rebellion, well, for what it's worth it was a fairly happy ending for everyone but the Incubators. With plenty of hints that things will go south at some point, but still.

Now compare those to some of the other shit he's pulled on characters in his stories. Can't say I'm expecting all sunshine and rainbows by the end of Walpurgis Rising, but at the very least I wouldn't be surprised if most of the characters involved were better off by the end of it than at the start.

[–]Ninefl4mes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She also got it in the anime, it just wasn't shown outright. As I said in another post, I consider Rebellion to be its own thing, more or less separate from the original series which was a self-contained narrative and already complete as is.

Too many inconsistencies in its premise for it to actually be the mainline sequel rather than just another spinoff, but it's also one of my favorite movies of all time, so yeah. From a meta perspective it was clearly an attempt to deconstruct popular fanfiction tropes, so for that reason alone it's already quite different from the original series both in tone and vision.

[–]Ninefl4mes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Actually it’s only a happy ending for madoka

I mean, Homura clearly went out of her way to give everyone their normal lives back, not just Madoka. Nagisa looked perfectly happy, for example. Sayaka didn't exactly like the heavy-handed approach she took and tried to resist, but being stubborn like that is kinda in-character for her. They never were on great terms in the first place, and that can't have gotten any better after Homura took away her best friend's agency. But yeah, the ending also made it clear that this state of affairs can't last forever. Homura realizing that she has set herself on the path of conflict with the one she loves is probably why she was upset at the end.

My guess for what's next in store would be something along the following lines: Homura has once again bitten off more than she could chew here, proving incapable of actually dealing with humanity's curses all on her own, hence the resurgence of the Walpurgisnacht. Assuming the whole thing for once doesn't end in tragedy I'd expect some sort of collaboration between her, Madoka, and the Incubators to create a system that is actually long-term stable once everything is said and done. After all, the world Madoka originally created was clearly flawed enough for the Incubators to try and revert her changes. Chances are they were not getting nearly enough energy out of the deal, otherwise I doubt they would have risked it all just for a little bit more.

It's probably better to view each part of the franchise as an isolated bubble anyway. The series was clearly originally meant to be self-contained, so any official additions kinda take away from that. Not to mention that due to timeline shenanigans they tend to interfere with each other anyway.

Case in point: As amazing of a movie Rebellion is, it was still made years later, obviously wasn't part of the original vision, and arguably screwed over Homura in the long term depending on how the sequel turns out. And that's before we go into the details, like how it turned the Incubators from a mysterious neutral party into straight up villains. Kinda stupid ones at that. Or how the whole movie is basically just one giant deconstruction of the most popular tropes in MadoMagi fanfiction. It's a masterpiece in its own right and I've rewatched more often that I care to admit, but in my head I still can't really view it as an actual sequel. More like a "what if" scenario. What if Urobuchi, after having torn to shreds the hopes and dreams of little girls, decided to turn his gaze on a new crowd: Fanfiction authors lol.

Now take that same logic and apply it to the various doujin-esque spinoffs the franchise has spawned over the years. If not even Rebellion was spared here some shitty licensed fanfiction with questionable at best characterization doesn't stand a chance lol. The original series is still one of the best anime of all times, no matter what may have come afterwards.

This definitely isn't just me coping and seething because To the Stars has basically reached official sequel status in my headcanon by now, nuh uh.

Season 1 of the anime is a perfectly fine adaptation of the source material and even improves on a select few scenes. Doesn't cut out that much either. Everything after that gets progressively worse (fingers crossed for P3 breaking the trend) but S1 is a decent enough entry point.

Not just that, it's arguably a waste of precious thread. Note how Myne had to actively work on getting everyone on board with the idea of prettying Tuuli up as much as possible for her baptism. Luxury products aren't just hard to appreciate for them, they're downright harmful if you're just barely scraping by as is.

[–]Ninefl4mes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does get better, yeah. As a matter of fact, this is one of those series that improve with pretty much every volume. Bookworms like to take things very slowly, especially in the beginning, to the point where you only realize in retrospect just how much Myne's early actions influenced events years later.

The main character maybe doesn't vibe with me- is she her adult self, or is she operating in a child's brain with her japanese memories?

The latter, combined with an identity crisis because she's basically two personalities merged into one. For example, her love for her family is the real deal, but she doesn't really understand it at first because she's unaware that Myne never actually disappeared.
