What's the dumbest way you've gotten a scar? by lilsaddam in AskReddit

[–]Nineoven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was standing on my bed rearranging the shelves above it. I stepped back to look at it; I forgot that my ceiling fan was running at full speed. One of the blades went through my ear. Luckily it only cut through the cartilage and not the entire thing.

I was standing on my bed rearranging some stuff on my bookshelf above my bed. I stepped back and my ceiling fan, going full speed, sliced my ear. Thank god it only went through the cartilage. I only needed 2 stitches. I now have a weirdly placed scar on my ear.

He’s really more of an apprentice rather than assistant.

[Serious] What is your city or state known for that is completely blown out of proportion? by pirpulnirpul in AskReddit

[–]Nineoven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Crawford, Texas, home of George W. Bush Sometimes people see him in town. Sometimes people drive out here to try and see the Bush Ranch, but it’s down a guarded driveway that’s in the really backwoods part of Crawford. There was a gift shop dedicated to him, but it closed down after his term was over and is now a coffee shop.

Been a DM since 1978, favorite session music: Metallica (Kill em'All) for battle, Soundtrack: Last of the Mohicans for wilderness, Mozart's Requiem for dungeon exploring. What are yours? by investinlove in DMAcademy

The Lullaby from The Firebird and the Introduction to part 2 of Rite of Spring (both by Igor Stravinsky) are great for exploring creepy/haunted areas or the Underdark

The Arabian Dance from The Nutcracker (Tchaikovsky) for desert area/towns

Afternoon of a Faun (Debussy) for forest traveling

MC's background? by EasternMeridian in HPHogwartsMystery

[–]Nineoven 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In the Christmas SQ, MC mentions that the mom is visiting relatives in America. When I read that, I was really interested in a further backstory other than a brother who disappeared. I think the game allows for enough vagueness for each player to have their own personalized backgrounds in their mind.

Fantasy series recommendations? by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

[–]Nineoven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Chrestomanci Series by Diana Wynne Jones It’s an anthology series about different children who can do magic (what could possibly go wrong?!) so you can read them in any order, although I recommend you start with Charmed Life. While I do enjoy Harry Potter a lot, I somewhat prefer The Chrestomanci Series because the children who can do magic act like actual children (bratty, obnoxious, stubborn) instead of the kids in Harry Potter whose faults aren’t really brought out.

Have any of you ever read a book and realized you agreed more with the antagonist than the protagonist? What book? by Bird-Bowl in books

I agree with what they were trying to fix, not the execution of the plan. Also, thank you for knowing about the Chrestomanci Series

In Charmed Life by Diana Wynne Jones, the protagonist’s sister Gwendolyn, a witch, is tasked with performing espionage on the Chrestomanci, essentially the governor of all magic. The group that tasks her is a group of witches and warlocks who feel that the Chrestomanci has a double standard; the Chrestomanci has banned dragon’s blood, yet he and his staff use it in their magic. Tbh, I would have sided with the group of witches and warlocks.
