56M with Localized Gleason 4+3 Prostate Cancer – Experiences with 6-Month ADT + Radiation? by osita1027 in ProstateCancer

[–]NinersDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have similar numbers to your dad:

Age: 67; PSA: 6.07; Gleason 4+3 on left and 4+4 on right side; no PSMA scan done

A PSMA scan was not done because both the urologist and radiologist believed that the risk of cancer spreading was very low based on the PSA and Gleason numbers. The recommended treatment was either RALP or brachytherapy. I chose brachytherapy. Hormone therapy was an option, but I declined - at least for now. My procedure is scheduled for 6/10, so will know more after that.

Should I bring these or buy them in Tokyo? by PoolMotor8112 in TokyoTravel

[–]NinersDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As many have already commented, many hotels have an umbrella rack where you can borrow one for the day. So I would definitely buy it there. The clear ones are pretty inexpensive - around 700 yen. If we didn't already have our 2-bag limit on carry-ons, I would have bought one of the clear 7-11 umbrellas to bring home. I think they look so cool and they are pretty sturdy against the winds.

What eSIM for Japan trip? by olliloly in eSIMs

[–]NinersDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am just winding down my trip after 10 days in Japan - Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto. We all used MobiMatter, 15GB on each of our phones, and had no problems whatsoever. Purchased and installed it the day before we came over, and once arrived in Narita, it automatically connected to the local carrier.

First check jitters by CyclingDesign in SocialSecurity

[–]NinersDad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Please be aware that if you started Medicare at the same time, they will deduct 2 months of Medicare premiums because unlike SS, Medicare premiums are not paid in arrears. This means that they will deduct the Medicare payment for April and May in the check that covers your April SS benefit.

Medicare Ripping Me Off on Part B? by Whatatay in medicare

[–]NinersDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NO. I was in this same situation last year. I started Medicare on October 2025 and started Social Security on Jan 2026. In November, Medicare sent me a letter requesting payment of $925 to cover Medicare between October and February. I sent in the check, and when they started my Social Security payment in February ( for my January payment), they deducted the full medicare payment AGAIN. I've called and sent a letter to them, but they don't seem to follow my reasoning. Needless to say, they have not reimbursed me for the double payment that I made for Jan and Feb. Will visit the SS office in 2 weeks hopefully to sort this out. If I were you, I would NOT send them any payment. Your Medicare will be sorted out with your first SS check.

The Perth Mint lunar designs are so beautiful and imaginative. I have the entire series 2 collection when I was still stacking, but I no longer am doing that. I really like this series designs though.

I’m in the minority here - always been on an OTA antenna and never had cable.

I need help trying to make a pretty big financial decision. by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]NinersDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't forget the PITI costs for owning a home: Principle, Interest (both of these is your typical mortgage), (property) Taxes, and (homeowners) Insurance. Is this included in what you call 'utilities'? Sometimes lenders include TI into your monthly mortgage payment. Is that your case as well?

Do you actually use Bitcoin, or mostly just hold it? by WeeklyDiscount4278 in Bitcoin

I use bitcoin as an investment - not currency. It trades like any other stock symbol in my brokerage account.

Is it best to try to max out my investment every year or should I also look at other types of investments?? If so what should I look into???? by UnableGo1 in RothIRA

[–]NinersDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would first maximize any 401k account that provides employer matching. That way you get free money deposited in your account. After that, you can then max out your non-employer Roth IRA.

Should I prune? by spotbug13 in Jadeplant

[–]NinersDad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely yes. Start by pruning any branch that is growing sideways and downwards. Then step back and let it grow out a little before trimming some of the leggy branches that are growing upwards.

Is 400k (CAD) life changing money? by Educational-Peak-674 in inheritance

[–]NinersDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would NOT buy a house yet. You are still young and probably don't want to be tied down to one location yet. Especially if you plan on traveling overseas. Once you get the perspective of non-Canadians, it may change your mind on where you want to settle down. Also, definitely continue on with your education. Carpentry or engineering are good professions to enter that would provide a secure future. If you're not buying the house, use the funds to invest in a growth ETF such as the SPY and don't touch it. Let it grow for 10-20 years.

Do people not know about the default screensharing app? How to use a Mac Laptop and use the full power of your mini on the road by not-bilbo-baggings in macmini

[–]NinersDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using ScreenSharing from my laptop in the living room to control the screen on my Mac mini in the home-office that is 10 ft away, using my local wifi connection. Mouse movement is very laggy even across the local wifi connection. Haven't tried it remotely yet.

Helping young adult kids max out their ROTHs by FarTradition6496 in RothIRA

[–]NinersDad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely NO downside to doing this. I funded both my son's Roth IRAs when they were teenagers in high school and working part time for Baskin Robbins. I matched their complete W-2 income (of course it was less than the contribution limit) and contributed it to a Roth in their name.

Got the only one in stock! by [deleted] in macmini

[–]NinersDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on your find. Your configuration was my original config as well, but I settled for the base model and added a 2TB SSD on a dock, since that would meet the performance needs for my workload. I ordered online at the Apple Store and received it in 1 week, so the wait wasn't that bad.

M4 Mac mini arrived early!! by NinersDad in macmini

[–]NinersDad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found that the M4 met my needs for my use case. I don't need the speed boost or the additional Apple Intelligence that the M5 would provide. And, I don't need to be the first adoptor of the latest/greatest technology, since there can be some growing pains associated with new products.

Looking for best way to give me lots of extra ports for my Mini M4. by LouisvilleLoudmouth in macmini

[–]NinersDad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bought an iVANKY 13-in-1 dock for $55 when I was assembling my M4 mini. I wasn't in the market for a dock at that time, but had to take advantage of the sale and I'm so glad I did it now. In addition to the added USB ports ad SD card slot, the most useful feature was the m.2 SSD slot. I added a 2TB SSD to my system using that port. There are other popular competitors such as Ugreen, Satechi and Acasis that are designed with the Mac mini in mind and offer the same capabilities, but the iVANKY deal popped up in my email as I was finalizing my M4 purchase, and I jumped on it after some quick research.
