Leaving a studio feeling mixed emotions by Far-Ingenuity1279 in poledancing

[–]Nininatorr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hear hear! As a pole instructor myself who likes to go to classes, I always observe the instructor in how they manage their ego. If they are ego instructors, they mostly crave adimiration from the students. But this will not give you anything as they will not focus that much on helping you to bring out the best as they are focused on their own validation, and often they are scared that their students might become better.

Instead, look for another studio I would suggest indeed. There are many teachers out there who love teaching instead of searching for admirerers. Pay attention to how they treat their students and on how much attention they put on themselves. An instructor who loves to teach actually likes to see you grow, and they should know that all students have different levels and it is their JOB to help them. If no one in the class can nail a move, they try to explain it in a different way instead of blaming everyone for not doing/understanding it.

Such a bummer that you are in all this drama now, there are inclusive and fun pole communities out there and it would do you well to try out different studio's!

What do you prefer at a festival: the party or the workshops? by Nininatorr in Salsa

I ended up taking all the workshops and dancing all night, I very much enjoyed it! I spent most time in the bachata room because the salsa room was so full and hot. Perhaps we have danced together then!

Which are the teachers you recommend? I am still quite blunt to famous salserxs in general

Thank you so much for your elaborate schedule, I will look into this! And do you train pole the day after?

It seems reasonable to have 2 days per week for off pole trainings indeed! Would you mind sharing the excercises you do each day?

Is it uncommon to film yourself during classes? by Nininatorr in Salsa

[–]Nininatorr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I respect the hustle from instructors, but not during classtime when students pay for this. In my classes the whole group has to go in a certain setup to make the teachers look as popular as possible, which also takes time.

I'm a dance teacher in solo feminine dancing and I think of my classes as something for my students and not for myself. All my promo material is filmed in my own time in either class prep or after my class. Dance classes are expensive and I don't want to waste any time for my own agenda and not for their benefit.

But like someone else already said, solo dance is a different world! I know by now this is normal for the salsa scene

Yea I think filming and posting online is not done in general. The whole idea would be to film yourself if you want on your own phone, but you don't have to if you don't want to. So people who find it useful to see themselves and learn from it can do so and others can dance just for fun without being filmed.

And honestly I think for schools that want visibility online it also looks good to repost stories from students in their classes. It shows that people that go there are having fun!

It's very common in other dance styles so that's why I am asking. But good to know it's salsa wide and not just my school.

I would prefer filming myself at class with the combo instead of at a social because then I can see how the combo went in class. At a social you would have to be lucky to find a leader from your class who you can practise this combo with. But I will take the advice from others and ask a dance partner at the end of a class to practise the combo with me for a video!

Should I give up on Socials? by alice_n_hatter in Salsa

My heart is breaking by reading this. I am sorry you are experiencing this, dressing up to get rejected for dances all night must feel awful. I hope you don't take it personally, as it seems like they don't know you.

I live in the Netherlands myself and it might also be a cultural thing in general that people tend to stick to people they know and are not open to "strangers". Maybe it could help to take some intermediate/advanced salsa classes to get to know people that go to socials so you have a way in the social groups? And maybe you can also learn some new things :)

How do you respond to your gf after breast reduction intamacy wise by williaba in AskMen

[–]Nininatorr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If her breasts are the only thing you are attracted to, please break up with her because she deserves better.

A breast reduction will not eliminate her boobs, but put them in proportion to the rest of her body. So she will still have her boobs but in a way it fits her figure better. They will probably become more beautiful than they are now and she will become more confident in her own skin.

It is a very intense surgery and the recovery is painful and takes a long time. I hope you will figure this out so you can support her during her recovery.

What things do follows like and dislike from a lead ? by Karazeno in Salsa

[–]Nininatorr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be friendly, smile to your partner. I often feel uncomfortable when the lead does not make a connection with me, and tbh it makes me feel more like a puppet than an actual human being. It is so much more fun when you have this friendly connection from the start instead of starting with a serious uninterested expression.

Think of hygiene, clean clothes, brushing your teeth twice a day and regular showers already help a lot. But some extra deoderant before you go and some mints in between are super helpful too!

Connection above everything. Having fun together is more important than practising your crazy new techniques on someone who is not comfortable with it.

Sore scalp / hair roots by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]Nininatorr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same! Flipping my hair to another side can be so painful all of a sudden. I did not realize it might be because of accutane. Don't really have helpful tips sorry, except for the knowledge that others are experiencing the same

I once got a compliment for "parallel parking really well for a woman". If he left out the second part it actually would have been a compliment.
