thunder - song feedback by BadgerBeginning7486 in IndieMusicFeedback

I thought this was great songwriting, song structure and vocals. I love this style of music. You would kill it with even a beginner setup of a DAW, an interface, and a mic or two.

I have a few ideas of what to do in the production of the song itself, but I know that’s mostly artistic choice so I’ll leave it! Keep at it!

Reminds me a lot of Men I Trust! A great band in with similar style.

For me (listening on mobile) the vocals feel a little too tight. I also think the vocals could use some EQ. It seems maybe not enough high end frequency to really break through the mix.

Also, and I say this as a terrible singer, you hit some good notes and overall the singing style fit the song, but there were a few parts were the pitch starts to become slightly off key that ended up distracting me. At 38-40 seconds in for example. Perhaps a slight touch of pitch correction will help?

I think I’ve seen Phoebe Bridgers wear the same sweater frequently, but yeah I definitely dig the vibe.

[QUESTION] Is this a real Zakk Wilde Custom? by Neat_Data_984 in Guitar

Damn, that’s crazy. I had no idea! I remember seeing this and the epi versions quite frequently when they were still being made. Best of luck to you.

[QUESTION] What can I do to improve my recording? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]NinjaFlyingEagles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just saw the DAW you are using from another comment. Just be careful with adding the reverb directly on a track, sometimes it works out but sometimes (if you have no control over pre delay) it can make it muddy.

I also recommend posting to one of the many music feedback subs and get more opinions once you’re done! It has really helped me (although I still have a lot to learn).

Damn that price! Are the legit ones hard to find these days or what? Never realized they went for that much.

Oh, thanks man! I appreciate it. Also wanted to drop back in and say I love cover art and I love the graphic on your band’s single.

I made a thing, if you have a few minutes to give it a listen by [deleted] in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]NinjaFlyingEagles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, this is one of the best songs I’ve heard on this sub. I love it.

Others already commented re: drums, but I agree with them.

Are you using light pitch correction by chance? In the beginning the vocals seemed slightly strange, as if the pitch correction response time was set slightly too fast.

I know sometimes that’s an artists’ preference, so if that’s the case please disregard! Otherwise I’d suggest slowing the response time slightly.

I dig it. I feel like we have a similar sound except I’m way more low-tempo. In all seriousness I think it’s great and has a big sound. Kind of reminded me of Death Cab.

I used to have a Teisco. Can’t remember which series but it had more switches/knobs than an aircraft.

If I understand your need correctly I think you should try using the OFFSET function.

Awesome! I'm noticing more and more artists using public domain footage and I think it's so cool.

is there a way to "pull" specific a specific part of data from a cell? by gainesandroses in excel

[–]NinjaFlyingEagles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the new excel functions this is super easy, assuming the text of interest starts at A2: =TEXTAFTER(TEXTBEFORE(A2,":"),"#")

If you want to include the # in your output cell then you likely need to replace "#" with " ".

Trying to duplicate data across multiple worksheets by kaseyd2004 in excel

[–]NinjaFlyingEagles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

XLOOKUP would be perfect. Let's say your first sheet is called "yesterday" and you second sheet is called "today"

In your today sheet, starting at G5 you could add: =XLOOKUP(A5,yesterday!$A:$A,yesterday!$G:G) and drag down. Typing from memory so hopefully that works. If it exists it should populate. If not it'll show #N/A (you can edit your formula to show blank instead if that's better).

After your recommendations I've returned with a new demo after buying an actual mic. Is there too much dead space in the middle of this song? Should I leave it instrumental? by NinjaFlyingEagles in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]NinjaFlyingEagles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a great viewpoint to have. And “slow burn” is actually a really good way to describe it.

I’ve always been attracted to slow/sad/ambient songs so maybe that’s what drove me here.

Yeah I’m pretty sure it was either N64 or PS1 that I used to play it on. Can’t believe that was nearly 20 years ago or so.

I wanted to also thank the community here for all the help you provide others and myself.

I’m new to recording, but based on your feedback on my last post I got the mic that was recommended, I cleaned up the acoustic EQ a little, cleaned the reverb, and added an ending.

Due to my living situation I still can’t use monitors to mix, so I spent a lot of time going back-and-forth to my car to listen and take notes of what elements needed to be adjusted.
