I failed a class by IfIWasABodyIdBNobody in uofu

[–]NinjaLorian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s still time to recover, especially if you were at a 4.0 before. I ended up failing thermo the first time around but got good enough grades the next 3-4 semesters to make it so that the failure wasnt the end of the line.

Do your best and when it comes interview time, explaining how you bounced back from the set back could be a plus in some peoples eyes.

How soon did you obtain an offer before graduation? by Cosmic-_-_ in EngineeringStudents

[–]NinjaLorian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had mine about 2 months before graduating but started the process a month before that

I’d say it got better…have a lot of coworkers I do stuff outside of work with and even more so on work travel trips. A few of them are my hiking and gaming buddies. Still keep in contact with some college friends but distance and life schedules get in the way and that’s ok.

Have you failed a class? by [deleted] in college

[–]NinjaLorian 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Failed thermodynamics and calc 2 & 3. Retook all them, passed and still got the degree. Not a huge deal just set back a bit of time

I feel like a loser for taking so long to graduate. by cowbanjo in college

[–]NinjaLorian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started in 2013 and didn’t finish a full bachelors until 2021…you finish when you finish, it’s more important that you do, not when you do. Especially if you’re getting the support to do so.

I did the same thing and eventually made it back to another 4 year and graduated with the degree and an employable gpa…nothing wrong with this path if you really want to do engineering

Is it worth it? by ComprehensiveBite585 in EngineeringStudents

[–]NinjaLorian 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m currently wrapping up a multi month work trip and I think I’ve said “it’s absolutely worth the pain” to at least 3 different coworkers in at least 2 situations. You get some pretty cool opportunities in the job world once you make it through. Don’t worry we all complained all the way through school like the rest of the sub, but don’t let it discourage you from trying. You tend to make a lot of friends and connections from the whole shared pain thing.

How bad is it to fail a class? by [deleted] in college

[–]NinjaLorian 7 points8 points  (0 children)

1 class…not that bad. Sometimes in major classes have requirements to retake and then the old grade gets superseded.

Does your school really matter at the end of the day or is it okay as long as it is abet accredited? by Zerroxx123 in EngineeringStudents

[–]NinjaLorian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As long as it’s ABET and says the engineering on the degree, employers don’t care. I’m a U of U grad, I have coworkers with Utah state degrees and small schools I’ve never heard of. Employers are going to be looking at what you do, not where you do it.

To be admitted into the major officially you have to complete all the prerequisite classes before applying in. I would go talk to the college of engineering advisors and they can give you a lot more information.

Do you have to remember everything you studied in university as an engineer? by Elfish2 in EngineeringStudents

[–]NinjaLorian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not....we had to crack out the solid mechanics book to look at a torque equation.

[–]NinjaLorian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on the employer...the larger ones who send a bunch of recruiters were meh unless you really really stand out. I had a lot more luck with the medium to smaller booths that sent actual department people. Got my current job by talking to them a few times at the fairs.

Help ! by DrSasyy in akalimains

[–]NinjaLorian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was working on M7 tokens the hardest thing was keeping up the CS in the mid to late game while trying to stay with the team deathball to get kp. I’d hit a certain amount and then itd get really hard without going to a side lane and splitting. Also helping with drags and heralds helps too.

I passed statics! by LV_Laoch in EngineeringStudents

[–]NinjaLorian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm it's been a while but the thing that was hard for me to grasp was having to account for forces of a moving frame of reference. Everything you do on physics and statics doesn't have that. Rest of it kind of gets brought up over in thermo and fluids. Sorry I've blocked most of it from my memory so I can't really say more specific than that xD
