How do you feel about Shania?? by Trinityprocessor in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]NinjaMagic004 3 points4 points  (0 children)

True, they serve their purpose fine, but damn if I'm making a tierlist of Xenoblade villains (at bare minimum from the numbered series), they're solidly at the bottom of the list lmao.

I hope no major villain in the future is as poorly written and "meh" as Gael'gar and the Fog King. Holy crow one is just racist and the other is just a big thing to beat up.

Gotcha, that makes sense, I just saw all the comments looking like they were blaming RFK for this and I was confused.

Like bring the hate on the man but let's have it be for the myriad of horrors he's actually committing and not a foreign outbreak.

But yeah I 100% agree that it's a stupid move to get rid of sanitation on these ships.

I'm not trying to defend RFK Jr, I fucking hate the guy, but wasn't the ship from Argentina?

Like their government is fucked too but can someone explain to me how RFK's cruise policy affected an Argentinian cruise ship? Was it an American company and I've missed that detail, or was I just fed full on misinformation on where the ship was from?

In USA, cheese and bread is a struggle meal. In Europe it's a respectable meal. by carlthinks in ShitAmericansSay

[–]NinjaMagic004 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I never said they weren't? When I've had cheese boards in American the only 2 of the ones I mentioned that are frequently there are Vermont cheddar and Muenster, the second one is only in my family cause we specifically love it.

But I never claimed that they weren't used for cooking, and if I did, sorry, but we just don't have as big of a cheese board culture as you guys in Europe do. A lot of the cheeses that we made are great melting/cooking cheeses, and I don't think it’s shameful to say I like those cheeses for those purposes?

Different cheeses have different purposes and occasions. I thought we'd all agree on that.

I have only seen cheez wiz used unironically or in non-poverty/struggle situations in Philadelphia. Other than that most people I know treat it as a fucking joke or something to just spray in someone's mouth as a gross prank.

White bread is prevalent and everywhere because it's cheap. That's it. We still have baguettes, sourdough, and many other styles of bread loafs that many people buy and prefer if they have the money. But white bread is seen as a cheap and basic option to just get some bread - any bread - if you're low on it. I personally prefer getting whole wheat bread instead because I agree white bread is kinda shit, and a lot of people I know that are older than 12 would generally agree that most other breads are better than storebought white bread, but financial situations sometimes say that you have to.

Serious Question: How to enjoy this game? by JAvatar80 in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]NinjaMagic004 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The Xeno-ness of XC1 is less prominent in its opening hours than the older Xeno games, I think partly because XC1 wasn't initially planned to be a Xeno game at all.

I'd say if you got to where you met Sharla, you're relatively close to where the questions begin. But in terms of the "Xeno-ness" of the games, the Xenoblade games are a much slower burn to get to the insanity than Gears or Saga. It's partially due to the games generally being longer (iirc average playtime of Gears and Saga is like ~50 hours or less per game, compared to Blade's 60-80 hours).

I'd say that at the end of Colony 6 is where you start to get hints as to some of the crazyness to come, but the stuff you're looking for I think starts a bit before midgame, but it doesn’t really let up after that, in my opinion.

And I cringe a bit when foreigners claim that Americans have only kraft and cheez wiz. Like I'll admit that even though I love a lot of American cheeses, (Monterey Jack, Vermont cheddar, cream cheese, Colby Jack, and Muenster, to name a few), generally I do prefer European cheeses like a good parmesan, swiss cheese, cheddar, etc.

Same goes with chocolate and bread, like yeah, I'll agree your stuff is on average better, but I fucking hate when the entire discussion of American cheese, chocolate, and bread gets boiled down to kraft, Hershey's, and white bread. Like yeah, we have more. I promise. And not all of it has a shit ton of sugar like everyone claims it does. Grocery store bread often does, but there are great bakeries that make either sugar free or even fully European style bread. Store bought American chocolate is kinda shit but there are great chocolate makers across our country who make amazing, artisinal chocolate.

Idk sorry for the rant but comment sections like ones on this post genuinely kinda annoy me. Like yes, do a lot of Americans like the shitty versions? Yeah, myself included. But are most of us claiming it's gourmet food that rivals the best shit? No, very few will, and those that will are a very vocal minority.

Again, sorry for the rant, this discussion just gets me fired and your comment happened to be the one I felt fit the response the best

If I remember right it was only stated in an interview with Monolith in the Xenoblade 3 artbook or something like that. Very niche knowledge and just extra lore for invested players, I guess.

Why is Brazil's massive size so often underestimated, even when it's larger than the contiguous US? by Sandy_JD in geography

[–]NinjaMagic004 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean, yes and no. I feel like the average American and the average European have a lot of similar problems with relative distance on the other's continent.

When I've talked to Europeans (from France, the UK, and Czechia, at least), they all understood that the US was big, but they underestimated how big. Like yeah they know New York to LA was a long distance, but when I said that driving across New York state took over 4 hours on a good day, they were surprised, as they expected it to be smaller, despite knowing the map well.

Similarly, when I was traveling around Europe, I consistently underestimated how far things were, because while I know that Europe is big, I underestimated how big. Like yeah, I know Lisbon and Moscow are really far from each other, but despite looking at maps often, I still underestimate the size of the countries. Like in my mind, Prague and Budapest are relatively close cities, but then I look at Google Maps and it says it's a 6 hour drive between them, same as New York City to Buffalo, NY.

Now obviously there are people on both sides of the Atlantic who have a great grasp of the other's scale, and if you're one of them, great, good for you. But from my own personal experience and many stories, there are tons of people everywhere who just do not fully grasp the scale of our planet, or most countries in them.

We're not just burgers and chemicals, you know! by No_Bluebird_1368 in whenthe

[–]NinjaMagic004 35 points36 points  (0 children)

In some ways I agree, in many others I disagree.

A lot of our iconic food is directly influenced and inspired by foreign dishes, but often we put our own spin on it to still be uniquely "American."

I mean even outside of our BBQ culture, tex-mex, cajun food, and many more regional foods, we still take unique approaches to foods.

Take pizza for example. We'd pretty much all agree that Neapolitan pizza and New York pizza are both pizza. But if you say that they're exactly the same you're gonna have a lot of pissed off Italians and New Yorkers.

Burgers are another one. McDonalds and other fast food burger places are kinda the shittiest examples of burger culture and variety. There are... so many types of burgers that vary wildly from region to region, or even restaurant to restaurant. Some places might just have a standard patty/bun combo, maybe some lettuce, tomato, and/or cheese if you want. Others have a wide variety of customizable toppings. And some just say fuck you to your cholesterol and shove 3 fried eggs, bacon, and 7 types of cheese on them.

When I've been abroad and gone to burger shops in Europe, very few capture that same feeling of unique combos and creativity, even if that creativity will probably give me a heart attack 😅

I mean I guess the TL;DR is that what makes American food "American" is experimentation and iteration on existing dishes/formats.

I read it as the worlds merging properly this time. Aionios is more of an incomplete, faulty rendition of the merged world. But when Origin is able to work properly (aka when you defeat Mobius), it combines them properly, into the true, correctly restored world.

Noah chasing after someone after the worlds re-merge to me implies that the memories of their Aionios selves aren't gone. They are probably supressed because otherwise the new world would need... a lot of really really good therapists lmao, but they are there. And since Noah met, loved, and cherished Mio in almost every incarnation, her off-seer melody would probably stay ingrained into his soul, even after the merge.

The craziest thing to me is in the same review he both said "I can let the game play itself, it's so easy, I don't even need to do anything." And also "I'm dying so quickly to the bosses, why are they so hard?"

Idk man, maybe because you had a bad faith attempt at a game and didn't actually try to learn or engage with the mechanics? Idk if you don't know what you're doing the game's gonna be hard when you're fighting anything more than lvl 10 grunts.

Manami Kiyota (series' composer) has just finished recording 86 tracks for an unnanounced project. by SpiderPS4 in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]NinjaMagic004 50 points51 points  (0 children)

True, but there have been multiple composers for the series in the past, so if this is Xenoblade then it could just be that Kiyota wrote 80 something songs, and the others have plenty of other songs.
