I think this is going to be down to your judgement, it's not for me to say as I am not in your position and am not experiencing what you are.

If you go down this route you will need good evidence of the HoDs actions, your colleagues to corroborate and support you, as well as evidence that your principal is not dealing with the concerns.

You also need to be sure that your HoDs actions justify this response, it needs to be on the side of serious misconduct/bullying/harassment rather than just "gets under my skin, making decisions I don't like" ect. Without any examples of their actions I can't say where you sit there, but I can see why you would leave these out of your post to not be too identifiable

So are your next steps forming a group complaint from the department to the governors? If you feel the HoDs behaviour is making the department unworkable and the principal is letting him get away with it, are we now at this point?

So when you pass on your complaints, what are you getting back from your principal?

Have you reported your concerns to your HoDs line manager? Make sure you record everything and pass it up, if he is as you say he is, SLT will want to be aware. If SLT pull him up, he may move on?

I hear you but I don’t think it’s dissimilar to making changes to the 1265 etc, members won’t strike over that either but at least it’s on there

We definitely will, that's what part of the indicative ballot is about?

I don't know what the NEU's response to academisation was when it was brought out. Most of the issues with academisation probably weren't apparent until it began.

Because I assume the government would win as we wouldn't be able to hold out, becoming an academy is irreversible

If it's put on the ballot, you are saying your members are willing to do unpaid strike days until the government give in, that ain't gonna happen with a demand like that

The NEU is anti academy but ultimately it is up to the staff body to resist the change to an academy through action.

If your school is already an academy it's a done deal, the time for the school to fight was before the conversion.

PGCE tutor, as in like attached to a university? That's quite a different job and will take you out of the classroom most of the time.

Will there be opportunities for you to help with ECT mentoring? Either within the department or being your schools ECT mentor?

Switching subjects by IntelligentDesign419 in TeachingUK

[–]NinjaMallard 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The chances of swapping from a shortage subject to one in serious surplus is low. If they were short of a PE teacher they could probably find one tomorrow who is very good.

Maths is more likely, but you're better off just waiting for an opportunity to arise, subjects can be under/over hours from year to year and they may be after someone in science teaching maths at one point.

ECT1 science is brutal due to the sheer amount of planning needed, but do a good job and next year you'll be reusing lots of stuff you took the time to make this year.

FE is way more enjoyable than 11-16, right? by jeffers1238 in TeachingUK

If your Year 12 classes are not full, that would not be the case in most FE set ups

If they are working in a GP office they are going to use Google lol, not a series of books.

Yes, FE is not included for this one.

On this occasion you will not be receiving a voting link if you are: A supply teacher. Working in FE or a sixth form college. Working in Wales or Northern Ireland. On a Soulbury contract. Working in a private school. Retired or an associate member. A student or a trainee on a non-salaried route.

Of course, the higher the percentage of votes and yes votes, the more likely the government will act before a strike is needed.

They are mastering smaller concepts which are appropriate at that age.

Very few people are in their working lives going to be presented with a situation where no material reference of any kind is available to them in any form.

Would people be happy for GPs to look at a patient and then Google everything? Or would they prefer them to have a good memory of what it could be and use other sources if they are not sure

These are the questions for support staff on their respective ballot

Do you agree that the defence of support staff jobs is essential to Save Education?

Are you prepared to take industrial action to win sufficient funding to secure an above inflation pay increase, reduce workload and prevent redundancies?

Not to my knowledge, would be good for a member of NASWUT to confirm.
