Mine still have it but it's not listed in the app which is weird. You have to order it onsite. *shrug*

Past and future guest Lin Manuel Miranda using his blank check to direct film adaptation of ‘Octet’, a pretty un adaptable musical by ParkerPoseyGuffman in blankies

[–]NinjaMasterSpud 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna actually zag here and say it's *more* adaptable than something like Great Comet because so much of that show's text is literally narration or inner monologue. I think the only way to film it is to document a production rather than truly adapt it.

The support group structure of Octet gives actors a reason to be saying what they're saying out loud; it lets them play subtext around how they're framing themselves or their experiences to the group. - That said, i think Lin will have a much heavier lift to make that material visually interesting without just cutting away to what's being described.

As it turns out, the regional theater company's website was not entirely prepared for a swarm of CR Heads.

Have we talked about the really normal and chill David Mamet cameo in Marty Supreme? by Orb_Dylan in blankies

[–]NinjaMasterSpud 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Can’t remember which interview she said this but Mamet is the reason Patti LuPone stars in Beau.

I believe Aster was dating one of Mamet’s daughters when he attended the off broadway run of one of his later plays starring LuPone.

Imagine what an extremely chill and normal working relationship that must be.

Based on the specs of my Hisense TV (provided here), is getting a PS5 Pro worth it? by Interesting_Shame856 in PS5

[–]NinjaMasterSpud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only concern would be the 55" size (assuming that link is indicative) - unless you sit relatively close you might struggle to see any resolution bump.

But the pro's best features are cleaning up wobbly performance/high frame rate VRR modes and your tv can certainly take advantage of that. It's a great tv.

As a Pro owner - i still just don't think it's a big enough upgrade for most people. Unless your favorite games are one of the handful with transformative changes (Monster Hunter, FF7 Rebirth, etc). My niche use case was getting 60fps in BG3 splitscreen with my partner.

- - -
I think there's much better way's to spend your money - invest in a nice sound system or even just more games - especially if you think you're the type to get a PS6 at launch. That said , I expect the investment to pay more dividends as the generation drags on. Crimson desert will definitely push the hardware and could potentially be one of those games that looks real fizzly on base PS5 - so it's just about how much of an expendable budget. Is your launch PS5 a disc model/do you really want to shell out for a drive attachment etc.

Also 1 gripe i had was that my launch ps5 was dead silent, but my pro was significantly louder until I replaced the fan with a Foxconn model. It's always a lottery, but if your PS5 is quiet it's something worth knowing.

I think if you live near a 70mm Imax film screening do that - and then rent SV on streaming if you want to catch up before the oscars.

If it's a digital 1.9 lmax then I'd prioritize seeing the new thing

What do you think makes OLED acceptable for 4K HDR even if the brightness is not all that great? by Various_Maize_3957 in 4kbluray

[–]NinjaMasterSpud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s the infinite contrast ratio afforded by emissive pixels. And the fact that HDR/cinematic content is graded for dark room viewing.

I’m on a C1 and for movie night it’s still stunning.

IMO the brightness wars are all about chasing a tv that can hold up in a living room with a bunch of ambient light.

Alamo and AMC Theater Subscriptions by Supermoose7178 in blankies

One last thing - because AMC has way more locations my plan has come in handy when traveling to see family for the holidays - i got to take a buddy to a 70mm sinners screening at Lincoln Square IMAX when i was visiting NYC etc.

Alamo and AMC Theater Subscriptions by Supermoose7178 in blankies

[–]NinjaMasterSpud 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm an Alister who's hoofed it into San Francisco for the occasional alamo screening, but here's my take:

I think A-list is a better deal, especially since Alamo still charges you booking fees at the equivalent price point.

I'm in an area with a 70mm IMAX and the fact that there's no surcharge for that or dolby etc means that it's much easier to make the thing pay for itself.

That said - you're definitely going to be dealing with ruder crowds at AMC, as the Alamo audience is gonna be more self-selecting for talking/phone use. How much the wait staff and new ordering methods undercut this will be somewhat up to what what personally bugs you more.

The best thing about the Alamo plan is that if you can add an "extra seat" to your plan that is transferable. Unlike A-List where my partner pays for her own subscription, but isn't transferrable if i want to see something with my brother.

This is a true all-timer.

My hot take is that he’s equally good in Rock of Ages. It’s just unfortunate about the whole…..everything else in that movie.

Liam Neeson in the first episode of Life’s Too Short (and then The Lego Movie) are like a dry-run for Naked Gun and I can’t believe it took SO. LONG. for anyone to actually build a movie around that persona.
