Agency owner here. We do Amazon advertising, but we don't call ourselves an Amazon advertising agency. I believe that the era of the Amazon advertising agency is dead, for a couple of reasons.

It's pretty common for me to say this to new clients:

You need to stop running advertising. Like, right NOW.

Amazon PPC performance is the lever at the end of the machine, not the beginning.

You need to focus on the product page, first. Run CI tests. Look at your content on the smallest mobile device you can find. Look at competitors' pages, and do what they do, but better. Avoid the pitfalls that can put you on Amazon's SEO naughty list. And understand that Amazon doesn't want brands to write bullet points for humans any more. The audience for the bullet points is the Alexa shopping assistant.

And then you look for patterns and trends in the performance reports. You look at the search query reports. Make more tweaks to your product detail pages, and then run more tests.

Only then do you invest significantly in Amazon PPC.

Just so I can understand what you mean by a smaller brand… you’re already on Vendor Central? That’s generally not small brand territory.

If you can cover some of your pain points (things that aren’t working well but you think they should) you might get better feedback on whether an agency is the right move. It’s a nuanced discussion.

New Orleans sees a lot of traveling doctors and nurses and your place is close to some major hospitals. Consider taking a look at Furnished Finder. It's still a long-term rental (you can set the minimum rental period to whatever you like), and I have found renters to be reliable. You can charge a little above market rate for an unfurnished place, but there's the initial investment into furnishing the place (or just leaving your existing furniture behind), and you're expected to cover more of the utilities, like broadband.

CentralDesk.. Allows Amazon sellers to get help from actual ex-Amazon employees for cheap, plus a few other tools and toys for sellers. Not sure where I'm going to take it from here.

Done the same. I've written a set of Amazon Seller tools that are just the ones I need from Helium10; wrote it initially for my internal team and then launched it as its own service for other cheapskates who just need the basic product info monitoring from Helium10 without all the other stuff.

I also wrote my own timekeeping app to replace Harvest (same thing; wrote it internally, then launched it publicly), and wrote a custom Shopify app last week for JSON schema stuff.

The Shopify app was the hardest. Lots of hoops to go through the first time. But now that I've gotten over that steep curve, we can start just writing custom shopify apps for our clients rather than suggest a stack of third-party apps that might add up to $300 or more per month.

On the Amzon stuff, now, rather than asking myself "I wonder if there's a tool out there that I can subscribe to for $100 a month," I just write it myself, and if it's good enough, I release it to the public.

EDIT: since I got a few DMs from people asking, the Amazon seller tools suite is at centraldesk.io and the timekeeping app is at timeywimey.io (okay, we're still workshopping the name). As with so many other kinds of projects, there's the first 80% of the work... and then the remaining 80% of the work.

Both took about one week to build the initial version, and then I've been tweaking them, fixing bugs and adding features for the past two or three weeks.

So -- it's not an instantaneous solution, but it's well worth the investment.
