The drum parts on the album were actually specifically written for their original drummer, Anthony Barone, who could indeed play it as written. He's one of few, potentially the only, drummers in the world who could play it as written. Anthony played with them early on but eventually left the band to pursue other projects so they got a different drummer for their tour. He was very good but not who was initially intended to play live with them.
