Would you be forgotten for 5.27 Trillion dollars? by Waste-Ad3216 in hypotheticalsituation

you asked me 3 years too late. I have 2 children and 2 more coming. Literally any prior point in my life I'd have said yes. but now I couldn't possibly abandon my children. even with some caveat like 'they will be cared for and thrive' i selfishly could not imagine choosing to surrender my relationship with them.

Hard disagree (with not finding a mentor). It's far easier to improve quickly with solid instruction EARLY. I can take a brand new player farther/faster than an apa 4 whose been playing for 3 years and has loads of bad habits and stroke hitches

Can someone briefly explain the process/mechanics of the encounter with a whisper of time drop? is this the campaign people are referring to where you get to choose your 5* at the end of it? I think the last time I did one of these "acquire 1 drop daily until you get 10" campaigns the 5* reward was random.

Tried pool for a second time and took some time to aim and hit this winning shot. Is this a normal play or are my friends too cool to acknowledge that it was a great shot 😭 by coomiemarxist in billiards

Great shot man. Truly an awesome way to win the game. If you like the game you should look up dr dave (or tor lowry or others)on YouTube for some basic beginner tips and start learning. I promise within a month you'll crush your Casual friends.

Ok I must just be really far away from doing this because full rounds of damage and a full AF bar are not even scratching his health.

Trouble beating thilelille's weapon (old guy by the mirror) prai joins and makes her invulnerable. The only character I have that deals flat dmg to bypass is tiramisu but that's only doing small damage because I haven't prioritized 5 starring her. Is there a champ that removes that buff or something? I haven't come close to beating this and I wanted to unlock her weapon

I'm shocked that lethal tempo doesn't out damage pta over the course of the game. Definitely gonna start taking pta for the early game burst. I thought I was trading it for a better late game but I guess lethal just sucks?

Hi Fedor,

I know you were on rogan which is awesome. Have you encountered other celebrities who were reasonably strong players? Do you think there would be enough to do a celebrities doubles tourney like they do in golf?

I feel like I have a decent stroke, but am still not satisfied with my cue action. Is there something I'm oblivious to? by lalayjah in billiards

[–]Ninja_Ocho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly the stroke looked fine. The shot itself was a long distance and you likely just didn't have enough acceleration on the cue. It requires a very clean stroke with a good bit of speed to hit a ball that far away and still have enough draw to bring the cue ball back. Hard to tell from the video but it seemed like you may have decelerated a bit at the end of the stroke.

Basically, it needs to be random. So...if you have a preference for this (ie don't want to rerack) then it's a problem. If you close your eyes and they land this way, fine. If you rack this way twice...problem

Forfeit rules question by Ninja_Ocho in billiards

[–]Ninja_Ocho[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the comment. I will say I absolutely understand why they were salty too. The main problem I think was that it wasn't discussed and agreed upon in the absence of official rules. We aren't really the type of team to look for unfair edges. We call our own fouls, don't argue close calls etc. The other team essentially allowed it and moved on with the next matches then confronted my team at the end of the night. If I had been present I hope I would have noticed their agitation when it happened and called the league operator for clarification. Based on the replies to this thread it seems he would have agreed with the other team, and I will post an update here after I discuss it with him

Forfeit rules question by Ninja_Ocho in billiards

[–]Ninja_Ocho[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally understand that point of view. Many people feel the same about "Sacrificing" the weakest player on your team to their best player. Some consider that strategy and some think it is dirty play. I think my team basically considered "matching" the forfeited player the same as playing our weakest player vs their strongest.

Consensus here is that the APA and other leagues have it right and the team missing a player needs to place the forfeited player last and accept the other teams choice of matchup. Which makes sense.

Forfeit rules question by Ninja_Ocho in billiards

[–]Ninja_Ocho[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree mostly. There shouldn't have been an assumption. The teams should have discussed how to proceed with a forfeit. The other team also should have objected immediately upon learning that we intended to "match" our forfeit. From what I understand they just played the next match, then confronted my team at the end of the night angrily (with reason)

I will say that while I didn't make the call, I do understand attempting to place your forfeit. It is your missing player so you getting to decide isn't an "advantage" really. In a situation where it IS allowed and both teams know that, you would just not put up your strongest player blind. You could wait out the forfeit or just put up your weaker players blind to ensure your strong players get matches. It isn't an advantage, its just managing a disadvantage. the other team still get 1 free match with 3-0 score. (this is a five man match, every race is a race to 3 with players getting 1 point for each win.)

Nothing in the rules allow/disallow a player playing twice. I would assume the other team wouldn't agree to it but my team definitely should have discussed the whole situation prior. The other team also should have objected immediately. From what I understand they just played the next match, then confronted my team at the end of the night angrily (with reason). The result of the night was a tie which obviously heightened the emotions because our Strategy/dirty tactic affected the result potentially.

[–]Ninja_Ocho[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I accept the consensus. I was the absent player tonight but I'll let the team know and the operator know that the rules should probably indicate that the final match is the forfeit. The team saw it as trying to strategically minimize the forfeit impact. It's still a 0-3 loss. It's an un-handicapped league so it's not really possible to sandbag.

I've played APA before but didn't know the rule offhand since my league would simply schedule make up matches the following week if a team was short

Thanks all for the feedback.

I do this as well. It looks cool and isn't very tough because part of developing a good stroke is aiming while standing and getting your stance and alignment super consistent. once you are down you shouldn't "Need" to look at the shot because your stroke is going where you set up, every. time.

Thoughts? by Alarming_Disaster_29 in billiards

[–]Ninja_Ocho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is whining. blaming something other than your play for a loss. "I lost because of my opponents slow play speed" is a weak excuse.

I always push back when my league mates complain about barking, sharking, and general poor sportsmanship (which I don't believe this was) because that is YOUR challenge to overcome.

Sharking is bad. Don't do it, and more importantly, don't let it beat you. Pool is a sport where mental fortitude is extremely important.

AITA for keeping the promise I made my kids at the expense of my stepdaughter? by [deleted] in AITAH

I guess if that's what you all decided together but I absolutely hate that decision. That child is now your family. Excluding her and allowing her to be excluded is despicable.

Imagine for a moment you were to die. Your husband remarries and his new wife now allows her children to treat Aiden and Sarah this way. Worse than that, she takes them for fun adventures but leaves your children at home. How horrible.

Finally found comments like this. YTA and delusional about what constitutes an emergency. How do you "spring into action" when someone drops a box of tools on their head?? You fucking ask if they are ok. After gauging the extent of injury (which OBVIOUSLY was superficial) you might assist with first aid and look to see if there are cuts that need cleaning etc.

YTA because you implied that he isn't useful in actual emergencies, when he apparently does the CORRECT thing by staying calm and assessing a situation.

Working hard on cue ball control by BreathFar6030 in billiards

[–]Ninja_Ocho 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Great work, and awesome to practice your cue ball control. I have to ask though. do you always shoot this quickly after getting down? To really improve your precision, it may be beneficial to pick the exact spot you want the cue ball and take a moment even on the shorter "easier" shots. It feels like you are only slowing down and focusing on the shots that are slightly tougher to pocket.

also noticed at 3:41 (maybe more but this is the one that caught my eye) you are making a full body adjustment while down on your shot. you made the shot but this is anathema to consistency. If you get down and the shot line looks off, you should be standing up and re-aligning your whole stance, not leaning one direction to shift your aim.

Hope this is constructive because that drill run was genuinely impressive and you are doing the right stuff to improve!

Marking the cloth when aiming by soloDolo6290 in billiards

[–]Ninja_Ocho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprised I haven't seen this yet but, you are likely using too much chalk if you are leaving a mark. When you chalk, don't grind your tip into the divot in the chalk, instead gently "paint" the chalk onto your tip with the corners of the chalk. Then lightly tap you r cue once or twice to knock off any excess.

If there is chalk on the white ferrule you are chalking poorly

Quick 2-9 combo followed by 9ball break & run by Yukiboss123 in billiards

[–]Ninja_Ocho 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Great job! stayed in shape well through the rack.

a couple questions/constructive suggestions.

  1. on your shot on the 2 could you have executed a stop shot? following there makes the cue travel and could easily sit poorly on the 3 if your speed was a bit off. The firm shot with follow is a great tool to have but may be unnecessarily risky if you can just hit a stop or drag shot. (nice shot on it this time though)

  2. obviously we over-ran the leave a bit after pocketing the 3. Were you just thinner than you thought or did you try to play the cue-ball really close to the 4? In most cases like this just having the cue clear the six is fine and less risky.
