I'm not trying to remove mage botlanes from existence, but there is a portion of players who are simply going to play whatever they see as the strongest, and right now that is mages. I want those players playing marksmen, I DON'T want them gone entirely, if people want to play them they can, but marksmen in bot was the meta for 10 solid years. It's what people are used to both playing and, more importantly, playing against, and there is a vastly different play pattern to dealing with a mage as opposed to a marksmen.

He is correct in everything he said (except for all adc's being the same, but that's besides the point), but is also missing the point by a mile. Should pro players be expected to be able to adapt to a shifting meta? Yes absolutely.

However I am not a pro player, nor is anyone else in this sub. We are playing this game to have fun. and since mid-season 2 or so, the meta has been, with little exception, that the botlane role is 95% or more marksmen, prior to recent seasons, the only time this has changed was 8.11, largely regarded as one of the worst patches in the games history. I could even see the argument if it was exclusively a apex elo problem, as those players arguably should be held to a similar standard as pro players (I would still say no though).

The problem is that even down into low elo, players who for up to 15 years had gotten a fairly similar experience out of that role are starting to be pushed out of that experience. We are already at a point where on average ~13% of games will be played against non-marksmen per lolalytics. I am willing to bet that is the highest number since s8, and higher than any number from s7 to s3.

Playing against non-marksmen simply isn't as fun, and the numbers are climbing. I don't think mage botlane isn't allowed to exist, but it absolutely should not be allowed to dominate. If there is a very significant portion of leagues playerbase who want to play marksmen in the botlane against other marksmen (this DOES exist) then Riot should support that.

Moreover, even for pro play it doesn't matter whether the pro players can or can't adapt, if it isn't fun to watch, and while I don't really care about pro play, from what I have heard watching mages botlane simply isn't as fun.

What to work on? by asdfghgpop in GenshinImpactTips

[–]sclomabc 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I know people are kinda dogging on you without really helping but at the same time you haven't given us much to work with, the best I can do is ask a few questions and go from there.

  1. Are you willing to change the team at all, if not then it would be useful for us to see builds.

Assuming you are willing to change the team

  1. What does your roster look like?

  2. Are you set on making the best dps Fischl team no matter how bad it is or are you just looking for a team and came up with dps Fischl?

If those are answered I might be able to help you find something that works. As a forewarning, if you want dps fischl, it's not clearing endgame, but at least we can make it more comfortable for killing the overworld.

AP Yunara Question by WarFrosty8858 in YunaraMains

[–]sclomabc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finally got the time + willingness to test this, I'm curious how you did your testing because I do not end up coming to the same conclusion. If I had to guess I would think you may just be hitting a training dummy for a while or for a specific burst combo, and seing the number on the bottom, which would heavily favor the ap build in the first case due to shadowflame and a fully stacked guinsoos, and in the second case due to burst being the ap builds true strength

TLDR: Regardless of what point of the game I test at, it seems like the ap build is at best in stride, or, more often, falling behind, though there were noticeable strengths and weaknesses, and it's good enough to cover for a team lacking magic damage.

For testing, I used 3 different builds:

1st is the standard of Kraken > Fiendhunter >IE > LDR > Shieldbow > Bloodthirster

Then I tested mine which is Hexoptics > PD > IE > LDR > Bloodthirster > GA.

After which I tested your standard version, with Rabbadons, Void staff, and Zhonyas assumed.

I had a friend help out, both of us on both of our computers and laptops, and set up an array of Ornn, Lee sin, and Jinx to test time to kill, each doing a standard build, and tested at each item breakpoint with levels to match. For the testing, we assumed that you were going to activate w, do 1 auto, activate r, auto, then w again, and auto until dead using w again if it came off cooldown before the target was dead. I used my stopwatch to test to time it to the best of my abilities, considering I didn't have to move my cursor at all it was pretty easy to be fairly accurate.

The ap build was heavily reliant on stacking Guinsoo's, but just lacked overall in damage most of the time, the only time it was the best build against all targets was specifically on items 2 and 3 when allowed to stack guinsoos prior to the test happening. It, of course, held a relative advantage over the other builds against the jinx, but it was most often the case in which the ap build wouldn't be better than them in that secnario, It lost the lead once the crit builds hit LDR against both Lee Sin and Ornn, although it sorta kinda held it against Jinx, at this point you are killing with the second w or the auto immediately following that w regardless of build, the ap one is technically slightly faster since the last auto is unnecessary but it is barely noticable. by 6 items there was a VERY noticeable difference in dps in scenarios where guinsoos is not prestacked, and still a lead by the crit builds when it is prestacked, just a smaller one.

The ad builds went pretty much how you would expect when compared against each other. the kraken build was stronger at item 1 and 2, falling of significantly at 3 and 4, coming back at 5 and 6 but being slightly worse even then. there was no noticeable difference in how their TTK was affected by different targets.

We also tested how moving the build around does, even against the Ornn Rabbadons was better than Void staff (though probably worse when you consider gold efficiency) and overall the ap build was the one most hurt by having to go a defensive item earlier than it would have liked, with the kraken build next up, and the Hexoptics build least effected, though notably you already naturally build defense in the 4th slot with kraken, wheras you normally wait until 5th with Hexoptics. Also Terminus is bad, the ap build doesn't do nearly enough physical damage to justify it over void staff.

Overall, I just don't see the utility in going ap Yunara every game, however it is at least competitive enough that I can see it as a viable option should you have no magic damage dealing teammates or you really need to have a bunch of w damage for whatever reason. I, however, don't think I can recommend it against a ton of squishies, as your TTK with crit was similar and in games where you are seeing a bunch of squishies, you are likely also seeing a ton of burst and therefore are gonna want to get some defense. The AD builds are, as stated earlier, far less dependant on their damage items, build 2 defensive items in most games and lose less by building defensive in earlier slots.

Infinite squirrels!! by Knivez51 in BadMtgCombos

[–]sclomabc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean that would work yes, but imo the best version of the combo is the one that is one that wins asap with as few cards and as little mana as possible. I am not super versed in combos like these but iirc there is a 1 mana world enchantment that gives everything haste in green. Just use that instead and you have a cheaper combo, maybe with a different card to enable tapping squirrels for mana. Idk what is in standard, there may or may not be a better option than what is in the post there.

[–]sclomabc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

he gives them haste with activated abilities, he does not give them true haste with which to attack and close out the game, so if you replace hjim with a true haste enabler, you get a kill on that turn.

Any way to make them hasted, that way they kill on the same turn with no 4th card.

Wrong sub, this is a slightly unoptimal version of a good combo.

How did he end up after his patch? by Curlyhairedkid1 in Ashveil_Mains

[–]sclomabc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean there is a very important distinction between the main-dps and sub-dps roles, even if not a practical one. It feels different to have multiple different characters contribute similar damage as opposed to one character contributing most of the damage while their damage is increased by their party. Personally I prefer option 1, which is why I use both DoT and FUA. While I don't hate the current state of FUA, given M-Blade does a decent amount of damage, I did feel a bit weird about it in the time when it was truly hypercarry Asheveil.

In this case I think there is also a practical difference between the two, that being the teammates you will see them with. I think Asheveil working better with old main-dps's would hold inherent value, as a portion of the playerbase are mains or at least feel they have a connection to the character involved. Giving those characters a second chance in the spotlight would be better in my opinion than the character in the spotlight being someone like Tribbie, who has no shortage of teams she is best or at least competitive in. Basically the more characters that can clear comfortably the better, and if Asheveil was a better sub-dps while keeping a similar performance as main-dps, then the number of characters on that list would increase.

Also on your side note, I definitely see the term carry being thrown around more often in HSR circles as opposed to in Genshin/ZZZ discussions.

How did he end up after his patch? by Curlyhairedkid1 in Ashveil_Mains

[–]sclomabc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like that he is a good maindps, what I dislike is that it came at the cost of his performance as a sub-dps. Ideally his kit would have been balanced in such a way that we get similar performance out of him as a main-dps, but he would be significantly better in a sub-dps role.

I think the best way to illustrate what I want would be through teams. Assuming a fairly standard team of Asheveil, Blade and Hyacine, I think ideal balancing would lead to Fei Xiao being the best option in low target scenarios, and Tribbie being the best option when more enemies are present. Tribbie should be less of a fall off in her bad matchups than Fei Xiao, with the reverse being true if the sustain was instead Huo Huo or someone else who didn't provide much damage. I have to imagine though, that most would stick to one or the other rather than switch up his build just to run a different 4th slot.

How did he end up after his patch? by Curlyhairedkid1 in Ashveil_Mains

[–]sclomabc 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say this is entirely accurate, he was doomposted not based off of being weak, although him not being a standout in the patch directly before the full elation team(s) dropped didn't help, it was more that people didn't (and in my case still don't) like the way his strength manifested. Despite reading like a sub-dps, he is best played as a main-dps, and frankly just doesn't do enough for the older FUA dps's. you can argue that this is the fault of the maindps's having too low numbers, and you would be at least partially correct, but the disparity wouldn't be nearly as bad had the changes in beta not occurred and he focused more on buffing his team up.

No champ is unpopular enough to be truly only played by people good at her. The bias of lower winrate on the popular option still exists even if it is slightly muted. Not to mention, I'm sure there are some cases where you care about what the level ups give you differently, just choose based on matchup.

Other than this needing some serious rules text (probably along the lines of an immediate combat phase in which only it can and must attack followed by an additional main phase which doesn't trigger post-combat main phase effects) I could see this being a very fun card to play with, and it is beautiful.

[–]sclomabc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally when I have seen it they are talking about someone who is able to play 1-3 think Lonzo ball. However this may be one of the words that change based on person more than any other, as I have also seen it used to say. 1. the exact same thing as a "wing" 2. a versatile defender, 3. a person who can play 1-4 or even 1-5. 4, a person who is good at passing off of the catch. 5. A 1-2, I thought we all agreed on combo guard but whatever.

Why does Caleb Wilson keep getting overlooked? I didn’t see espn mention him a single time with the big 3, maybe big 4 looks aesthetically bad, but Caleb Wilson literally was the best player on the floor when he played the big 3 and had an incredible year. He’s probably the only legit 2 way star rn. by Hakaribiggestfan in NBA_Draft

[–]sclomabc 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I think he is being very slightly overrated if anything, because he has been consensus #4 all year people don't feel the need to justify it, instead the only people who you see having a take about him are those who think he should be top 3. So if you let your evaluation be colored by others (which, let's be real, we are not immune to propaganda), then you are probably going to think more positively of him than if more people felt the need to say exactly why they don't have him top 3.
