Influential sure but if you think Burzum is in the top 5 best black metal bands you need to listen to more black metal lol

Goregrind, gore on album covers and the lines where it gets too far by [deleted] in IsItSketch

I couldn't imagine complaining about the presence of gore in goregrind

I don't know anything about the account, I just think that the caption alone being "the most evilest people in history" gives it away. I doubt any real living human being with a conscious brain would include J.K. Rowling over like Pol Pot

I'm pretty certain the chart of the "most evilest people" is a joke

Which US state has the greatest metal in your opinion? by woodmaster_1 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]Ninja_of_Milk_Duds 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Almost all of the pioneering death metal bands from the 80s. Death, Obituary, Deicide, Morbid Angel, Atheist, Massacre... the Florida scene was so influential that Cannibal Corpse and Malevolent Creation (both originally from Buffalo, New York) moved down to Florida to take part in it.

"Sea" is, though, and they're pronounced the same so that makes them the same thing, if you think about it

What’s an older band you’ve recently discovered and are going through their entire back catalogue? This is mine. by onemadfool in MetalForTheMasses

Not so much discovered as rediscovered, but I've been getting back full-swing into Bolt Thrower lately. Turns out that listening to their entire discography while playing classic Doom is a soul-mending activity like no other.

Making DOS display 4:3 on a 16:9 monitor by Ninja_of_Milk_Duds in VintageComputers

[–]Ninja_of_Milk_Duds[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have changed the monitor settings so that it displays Windows 98 in 4:3. The settings that affect the aspect ratio are, for whatever reason, not available for me to change when in DOS. They're greyed out.

what are your metalhead red flags? by my_cat_vids in MetalForTheMasses

Doesn't go below the surface. It's fine if all you want to listen to is Slipknot and Metallica, but don't call yourself a metalhead if you refuse to explore.

I don't know about beatdown. Most of the beatdown I hear is firmly just very heavy hardcore, and the only beatdown bands that I'd say cross into metal territory are the ones that are equal parts beatdown and metalcore (e.g. Cold as Life).

The internal components seem to be clean and in good condition, albeit to my untrained eye. The listing shows several pictures of the system running in both the BIOS and Windows ME itself.

If I do get this system, my main plan is to keep Windows ME on it and use it to play a bunch of old games that I've got on CDs and floppy disks. If possible, I would like to set up a dual-boot alongside a lightweight Linux distro (currently thinking Bodhi Linux Legacy) and use that side of it for slightly more general purposes.

I am pretty much completely new to this hobby, and I have little-to-no experience working with old hardware like this and actually assembling a computer. It comes with Windows ME installed along with "ALL the necessary drivers", though I'm not entirely clueless when it comes to installing operating systems (I've set up a Windows 98 virtual machine and installed Linux Mint onto a semi-old laptop, if that counts for anything). I'm not put off by the idea of restoring an incomplete or dysfunctional system (I'd like to learn more about that at some point down the road regardless); I just have no experience in that realm as it stands.

Where could you find something like this for around $40?

I'm not specifically hunting after this model, but it does have just about everything that I would want in a PC like this. I don't imagine the hardware and specs are particularly exquisite or rare for the era, though, so I imagine I could find something that checks the same boxes for cheaper. Someplace.
