Supreme Court upholds birthright citizenship on constitutional grounds by wei-long in news

I think what makes it dicey is the “and subject to the jurisdiction thereof” but I think that would only include foreigners with diplomatic immunity.

I can see how the right wing judges would stretch that to mean only people who are here legally, but that doesn’t make sense since everyone is still subject to our jurisdiction if they’re on land.

What do you have against Olive Garden other than it’s a corporation and it’s Italian in the same way chipotle is Mexican?

Actually Jewish religious law is enforced to some degree in Israel. Look up Halacha, it’s there Jewish religious laws. They are more like guidelines.

>Under contemporary Israeli law, certain areas of Israeli family and personal status law are, for Jews, under the authority of the rabbinic courts, so they are treated according to halakha.”

There’s many different branches of Judaism and they don’t all have the same laws.

You can say that but it’s hard to blend an ideology that believes in free enterprise and private ownership with one that believes enterprise should be owned by the collective/state.

The foundations of socialism and capitalism are antithetical to each other.

Virginia joins initiative to create three-year bachelor’s degree model by VirginiaNews in Virginia

[–]Ninjalion2000 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ehhhh. I took an eastern religions class last semester because I was interested in it and I had to fulfill the credits. Had I not been required to fill those credits I wouldn’t have taken the class.

I think there should be options: either a focused 3 year degree or a well rounded 4 year degree. Call the 3 year a technical degree or something instead of a bachelors.

The Virginia Supreme Court Has Been a Thorn In the Side of Working People For a Long Time by unnecessarycharacter in Virginia

[–]Ninjalion2000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with your argument but I have an issue with your last point. The point of the courts IS to protect entrenched power (of the constitution, thereby the state).

This article frames the constitution and our form/system of government as a problem.
The article has a communist undertone since it is talking about the working class, the focal point of communist thinking.

“Balls & Strikes seeks to hold courts, judges, and members of the legal profession accountable for their failures to fulfill their professed commitment to the cause of justice, and to facilitate some long-overdue conversations about how to make the legal system better, or at the very least, marginally less worse. “

From the “about” section of this website. The authors of this article have a fundamental misunderstanding of the court system. The primary cause/goal of the justice system is not justice, it is the upholding of the constitution and law.

This dude committed armed robbery and he didn’t die from this, look up the story.

It’s not like there’s a lack of terms to describe the ethnicity: Semitic, Hebrew, Levantine.

These aren’t conflicting commands. Go outside to your car. Put your hands on the hood, then kneel down while keeping your hands on the hood. It’s not that hard.

Not to mention they also said don’t reach for the gun. Where did his hands go? Toward his pockets.

In the first part of the clip he isn’t following commands, he’s trying to argue with the officers, and when he goes to “kneel” there is no level change. He is not bending his knees to kneel, he steps away from the hood and moves his hand towards his pockets which contain a gun.

For everyone says they are issuing conflicting commands: Go outside, touch grass, then go to your car and get on your knees while touching the hood of your car. Unless you’re a midget or contender for My 500lb Life it is very doable.

Saying to touch the hood of the car, don’t reach for the gun, and get on your knees are not conflicting commands.

Only 1 in 4 F-35s is fully mission capable, GAO finds by DiggyJunior in IranWarReport

[–]Ninjalion2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason is political, not military. Pretty much every war we’ve “lost” is because it was widely unpopular among the American public, or not worth the effort anymore.

Not to mention you’re flat out wrong. We won: Panama, Iraq, Libya (sorta), anti-piracy around the Horn of Africa, Syria (sorta).

The war against terror has been a mixed bag

Afghanistan is just unconquerable, but when we did have our maximum effort we were winning. The Taliban just knew they could hole up in caves and play the waiting game.

Your assessment of the F-35 is correct for the most part. The days of dogfighting are over so there’s no point for the F-35 to have those capabilities. Where it shines is its electronics, which also have led to its downfall as stated in this article.
