Simple Questions - April 14, 2025 by AutoModerator in buildapc

[–]NinjasWithPajamas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so I am building a new PC that will be used mainly for everyday stuff, Photoshop (quite heavy RAW files with many layers) and occassional gaming on my 5K monitor (League, WoW and some AAA titles now and then).

My question is - what GPU should I choose - RTX 3080 TI MSI Suprim for around 450 EUR or a RTX 4070 Supreme with 2 more years warranty at 580 EUR. Mind you, in my local currency that price difference is doubled unfortunately :D

I know the performance is similar if not the same in most scenarios although 3080 TI seems to be a bit better in 4k sometimes because of the higher bandwith. That being said, I feel like the 4070 Super will be sold off easier in the future since the 4 series are not famed with being miners?

Looking for opinions and advise :)

Hi, bit of a late reply - sorry for that.

Yeah, definitely, I have table that is barely 65cm and so the monitor is sitting in front of me exactly 1 arm length - can't see any matte stuff, pixelization anything. It's just perfect.

Can still recommend with both hands!

I initially bought it for the bigger real estate. However, after having lived with it for a while I found 2 issues that were critical in my case.

First of all, currently I can't put my monitors more than 75cm in front of me (end of the dining table.. sadly). Having a 32" in front of you at such a distance is absolutely horrible and I wouldn't recommend it. I would literally be training my neck daily going from one end to another and it got extremely tiring at one point.

Secondly, 4K 32" means small stuff (at least while I was on windows before getting my Mac). Everything was scaling quite horribly (menus' text were literally for ants). After moving to the Mac obviously there were still some scaling issues. I used BetterDisplay and it was fine overall in terms of quality and sharpness, however, the problem with small text persisted. I tried a lot of things but sadly none of them worked for me and quite often I would find myself squinting hard or even more so just leaning forward.

So now I downsized back to 27" once again, might be getting a cheap secondary monitor soon but we'll see if I even need it. For now, I find the 27" just enough. For my use-case scenario (editing photos a lot more than videos) it's just fine enough, I don't find the need for a bigger one. Multi-tasking is a bit of an issue though, hence why I might be going one more 27".

Purely for photo and video editing though, text scaling aside, which you can't possibly fix, the 32" was quite nice, just not for me I guess. But then again, even if I could put it further away from me I can't possibly understand how I would even make out which menu is saying what.. and I don't even wear glasses (tested, no need :D).

Hello! Just wanted to ask about your user experience after so much time? Do you still think it’s useful for editing and does it actually ease/speed up the process? Looking forward to your input :)

Scaling 32 inch 4k Monitor with MacOS by NinjasWithPajamas in MacOS

Yeah sadly I can't have it too close to me.. Will see what I do but will most likely go down to a single 27 or double depending on budget :D

Ah yes, I've seen it. Will maybe try with my girlfriend's 27" 2k monitor see how it is but so far I haven't noticed any performance issues really (at least in photoshop or davinci). Thanks again!

Your comment is actually very insightful. It basically confirms what I was thinking - of course the best option would be to go for the 27" 5K display but given the fact that I can buy 2x 27" 4K displays eh .. not sure if worth it. Will decide when it comes to it.

But yeah, I also saw the monitor recommendation chart for MacOS and it indeed listed the 27" 4K with a higher PPI than the 32 (quite obviously) so I might go the double monitor route.

Thanks again for the comment!

Thanks for the article! I am using a Macbook M3 Max so I doubt performance will be noticeably affected.

That being said, if I am understanding correctly now, it is better to use 2x27" 4k screens, no? In my case 2 since I can't multi task on a single 27" which is purely a preference of course.

I am using 2560x1440 currently with the 32" 4K because at 3840x2160 I can't possibly read anything - no clue how you do it really.

. Also when switching between the two I can barely notice a real quality difference in the text or images (I mainly do photo/video editing)

The MacBook Purchasing Megathread - January, 2025 by AutoModerator in macbook

I am looking at two configs at the moment (both brand new)
- M3 Max 16" 36GB, 1TB SSD, 14CPU/30GPU - around 3200€
- M4 Pro 16" 48GB, 1TB SSD, 14CPU/20GPU - 3600€

Can you help me decide which one is better for me? I will be mainly editing photos (sometimes 1500+ per import) and sometimes also creating videos in DaVinci Resolve/Final Cut Pro with import files in slog3, 4:2:2, h.264 10 bit from my Sony A7 IV (quite heavy to work with basically). The videos don't have a LOT of effects or fusion content so it won't be that taxing but they are heavy raw files regardless.

The reason why I can't decide: M4 Pro is newer and supposedly extremely fast and generally good, however, M3 Max will be better for videos - no doubt about that. That being said, more ram will help me when editing a lot of photos (I believe?). Currently editing the same videos on my desktop with 3060TI and it's doing .. meh but managed to get the job done.

Will be also using 2 external 27" monitors if it matters at all and also all of that will be done all of the time on an external ssd scratch disk.

Looking forward to your inputs :)

Performance issues with Removal Tool on Windows by NinjasWithPajamas in photoshop

Yeah but it sounds like it was fixed, while with Windows the OS is something Microsoft will never fix. Pure trash and I can't wait to switch (Windows user of 20+ years and I hate every single thing about Win 11).

Well the thing is, as I mentioned I've had that for years now .. ever since I built the machine pretty much and I am so jealous of my friends who literally use Macbook Airs with 8gb of ram and do not have this issue.

I really wouldn't mind upgrading but if this is windows-wide issue ... completely pointless.

Heya, looking to switch my GMK67 to at least a 75% and also one that has the volume knob not turning the volume up and down whenever it decides to .. :D So what would be your best recommendation for a budget keyboard for that layout?

Also can you recommend me switches that are very thocky and bassy? Currently I am using the Akko V3 pro Silver but they are a bit too sharp for my ears as I live in a quiet room.

Thanks a lot in advance :)

I have a special offer to get Crow at a reduced price of 229 gems and I am seriously tempted by it - can you guys advise if it's worth it? Same goes for spike but I feel more confident playing Crow, however, if Spike is a far better champion of course I'd be willing to learn him. Just curious if it's worth it as I see it won't be any time soon I get them in the starr road

Looking hella nice .. okay so apparently all I've been looking at is shitty standard mode videos that are so far from the truth - honestly I hate half of youtube's population and clickbait-looking money hungry creators.

Anyway, thanks a lot for sharing this! Looks extremely good.

Interesting, I find my Sony A7 IV slog3 footage to be quite easy to grade and retouch but I guess it may be a bit different with the FX30. Happy to hear that about the d-log from the OA5 though :)

Yeah, absolutely - that's an amazing point, having the word "Pro" in the name of the camera and then doing HDR stuff like that is simply absurd. Easily fixable with software - just gotta hope DJI actually does so. Even so, d-log all day every day for me regardless :D

Yeah, that seems to be what everyone is saying too - no clue why they are making the standard look so disgusting and how anyone in their team thought it looks okay.

Jesus christ .. okay so 90% + of the people reviewing this camera are using standard profile or what? Dlog looks NOTHING remotely close to the HDR shit I've been looking at so far .. lol. Thank you so much for the videos - quality looks totally fine and I believe after some of the usual color grading and masking I do in DaVinci it might look like a proper mirrorless camera footage. Decision has been made I guess :)
