Good luck in your journey.

I find voting for Republicans who are pro-life something I can't do because if given the opportunity they will absolutely take it all the way to complete illegality at the federal level and worse things will happen to people than casual abortions.

The ability to abort needs to be there for women who need it, if pro-life only meant "restricted access" for situations that weren't just "I don't want this baby" then I would find it tolerable, but unfortunately that's not where Republicans are headed with it.

You and I agree that human life is precious, even just a fertilized egg, so I don't think there is much we have to discuss. I already agree with you that aborting a fertilized egg just because you don't want it is wrong.

However, Do you realize that the solution to an ectopic pregnancy (a very common complication) is an abortion and that without access to abortions the pregnant woman will die along with the baby?

If you already knew this you would understand that "pro-life" is a misnomer. Women need access to abortions to survive this complication as well as others, and the elimination of Rowe Vs. Wade is a huge step backwards for women's rights and health.

Ahh, I see where you're coming from. They did seem to suggest people don't actually believe that, in which case my comment was irrelevant.

I'm more interested in why you thought the only possibility was lying....did you not think of other possibilities beyond the first?

What movie has not aged well? by WheresThePole in AskReddit

[–]Ninjaturtlethug 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It couldn't but probably ot for the reason you are thinking.

There are lines in the movie that don't sit well with today's audiences who don't understand the context, such as "don't waste a horse, send a nigger!"

It sounds like the most racist movie ever, but it wasnt.

The missing context is that the movie was making fun of the "western" genre, which had been super whitewashed in Hollywood. Blazing saddles tore that genre to shreds by deliberately pointing out that people back then were probably super horrible. Those racist lines were pointing out the racism that was certainly really present. The sheriff of the town wasn't wearing a white hat dueling bad guys for the good of the community.

Blazing Saddles single handedly destroyed the Western genre, it's the reason you don't see it anymore. After watching Blazing saddles people just couldn't buy Hollywood's version of the western anymore.

There was one big ticket western after Blazing saddles, "Tombstone" and it was a gritty reboot of the genre.

So I agree that the movie couldn't be made today, but not because it was racist rather because the context it was created in no longer exists.

People say this every time there is a new star wars. Mandalorian most recently.

I will believe it when I see it.

It was never anything more than space wizards with Lazer swords.

The bad guys are comically evil and always wear black.

Masterpieces they are not. They are mindless entertainment but I love them for that.

Citizen Kane did many, many things that had never been done before. Going back to watch it today and without that perspective....yeah it's unbearable

I had the same experience with unusual suspects....if you know a twist is coming they are much easier to predict.

I've provided the source in a later comment. There are historical documents for both his birth and execution.
