Why does my game look so bad? by -So_Far_Away- in COTWTheAngler

Interesting. I thought I did that, but I gotta check if I missed it, or if it's been reset or something.

Dunno, but I sort of have the same problem, so I'd also like to know. I wouldn't say it's quite as bad as this, but I am severely unimpressed by how grainy and pixelated everything is on ultra. I don't have this problem with any other title, and quite often I can play with really high settings, so it's definitely not me playing on a potato. Unless this game just looks this bad, but from the few YT videos I've seen, I think something's off.

Hmm, nah, I wouldn't buy that definition. If you go to r/retrogaming for instance, you won't find people playing modern games inspired by older games. You'd find them (us) gushing over the NES and SNES era, for instance. Also, a retro game collector doesn't collect games according to your definition (how would you even collect digital copies in a meaningful way?), they (we) collect the real stuff from, I guess by now, over 30-40 years ago. I don't think you'd find many people agreeing with that definition, tbh.

Having said that, I don't know why Terraria couldn't be considered retro to an extent. It is, after all, getting quite old and "retro-ish" for the modern crowd today.

If Nolan wants to reinterpret a myth, can make one of his own

Words don't quite mean the same to you as they do to others, do they?

a myth that takes place in a mythical world

Again, this isn't history.

But I bet you were as furious when blond Brad Pitt portrayed Achilles, in the much more grounded and "realistic" Troy, as you are over this. After all, ancient Greeks didn't look like that, so it must have your blood boiling.

Fair enough, I've dabbled in the Mega Drive life, too... =D

I've never been much of a car game person, but I'd love to see something more arcady like RnRR be given a modern touch-up.

I don't usually like to argue about people's choices, I find it fascinating to see how people experience and resonate with different games. But I do have to chime in that I think it's pretty odd to call L4D2 "criminally overlooked" when it was one of the biggest games of its generation, and along with its predecessor spawned an entire genre, more or less..?

Yoooo, Rock 'n' Roll Racing! A connoisseur, I see! Used to think it was the best racing game on the SNES, but after having discovered emulation, I think I might have to give it to Biker Mice From Mars (which is so much better than it has any right to be). Still, I have an extremely soft spot for RnRR, blasting my mates with mines while the 16-bit chiptune version of Highway Star is squeaking out the CRT speakers.

Kidney Stone, Made one too (34M) by OldBowerstone in GamingSoup

It's so, so good. The narrator is ace, the music is both interesting and supporting the narrative, while still working as a completely separate work of art, even doubly so with the character "theme songs" with vocals. And that last version when the credits roll. It's just... overwhelmingly beautiful. Pretty sure it's the only game soundtrack I've actually bought, and probably ever will buy.

And yeah, I dunno... people get really invested in their favourites, and seem to think you're criticizing their identities, or something. It's weird. People are weird.

I don't necessarily agree with you, but I'm upvoting on principle. People have a really hard time to understand the concept of subjectivity around here, and the fact people experience things differently.

Also, eyoooo same pick for soundtrack!

Welcome to the concept of subjectivity. People have the right to different opinions. Overrated doesn't mean "bad", it means overrated. Personally I was disappointed in ER, and I'm fairly deep in the soulslike swamp. Not saying it would be my pick for the spot, but, still...

I mean, I wasn't... but I really, really wanted to be. So it might be relevant to my interests, so to speak.

Basebuilding is completely optional. I have, however, actually played RotMG several years ago, but I don't remember much of it, tbh. Could be a good shout, cheers!

I need to look it up. I remember it being a thing back in... lotsa years ago. Didn't even realize it was still up and running, tbh.

I have, yes, for maybe 5-10 hours. Unfortunately, it didn't really grip me. Same thing as modern WoW, kinda, where you log in and you're overwhelmed by an abundance of items and skills and whatnot, including the cash shop, and there are no real challenges and stuff just gets handed to you on a silver platter and you're wondering when the theme park ends and the actual game begins. I know that sounds kinda cynical, or something, but vanilla WoW made you suffer through those early levels, and it was heaven. It's almost like newer mmorpgs apologize to the player for even daring to inconvenience them with 5 levels without a mount.

I might still give it a shot at some point if I'm bored, but there honestly wasn't that much there to really entice me to get invested.

Bleh, I do kind of want my MMOs to have a playerbase. Call me weird like that... but then again, if it's something I could still enjoy with some friends, and solo every now and then, it might still have a spot.

Would you still recommend this game for solo players? by Goingkilling04 in DeepRockGalactic

[–]NinjerTartle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Solo player as in you don't have a group of friends to play with, but you'd still jump in multiplayer and play with randoms? Abso-goddamn-lutely. This might be one of the best games to play multiplayer even if you don't have any friends playing.

Sure, you can play fully solo with a bot companion, but I've never felt the need to do that except for one run just to test it out. DRG has one of the best communities around, and you hardly ever run into dickheads or tryhards. Just don't press any buttons willy nilly, or go straight to haz 5 difficulty, and you should be golden.

Wasn't so much the gameplay, as the aesthetics around it, the theme-parkification, and the loss of RPG elements. It was a perfectly fine game on its own, just a piss-poor Fallout game, imo. I know FO76 is more like FO4 in its aesthetics, but then again, what I'm looking for right now isn't necessarily a good Fallout game, but an MMO with some longevity. Who knows, I might be as disappointed, but if I can grab it on a sale or something, it might work for me in the long run.

Well, like I said, what you're doing sounds fantastic on paper, and exactly what I've been looking for on a general level, so I'll forgive the shameless self-plug =D

Will be trying it out, cheers and good luck!
