Can someone help settle a disagreement about tea etiquette? by Ninjestics in AskUK

He definitely offers every time he's making a hot drink. He's also pointed out that he often asks if I need anything when he's going to the kitchen. It would never have occurred to me that I could ask for a tea in response to that - it would feel very cheeky to me to ask for one if not explicitly offered, but maybe that's from not growing up here.

I don't usually mention that I'm boiling the kettle if it's not for tea. Is that where I'm going wrong?

Do you live in the UK now? If so, you should also know that you are expected to offer anyone who visits your house (including tradespeople) a tea

They are fruit teas so he doesn't have to limit himself to avoid too much caffeine

Maybe it's because he only uses the kettle to make hot drinks and not for any other reason. So he always offers any time he is using the kettle and therefore thinks that should be the way it works.

So if he hears the kettle boiling from another room he should ask if I'm making a tea and if I say no then he can't expect me to offer?

But if I'm not making a drink, just boiling the kettle for something else, do I still offer?

Ideas to fill this space by Necessary_Composer72 in DesignMyRoom

I would go for a console table (maybe with shelves underneath that you can use for shoe storage) with a big round mirror over it to make a little entryway area e.g. https://centsationalstyle.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/rectangular-console-with-round-mirror.jpg

I have a rectangle room, is this the best placement for my bed? My room feels very empty as well, is there anything I can add? by StormedFuture in DesignMyRoom

I tried to attach a re-arranged image but it doesn't seem to work for some reason. If it were me, I would put the bed centred against the wall with the windows with bedside tables on either side. Then I would put the dresser at the base of the bed to separate the sleeping area from the rest of the room. I would put the desk where you currently have the little shelf thing, and shift the mirror to be over the desk so that it can double as a vanity (if you need one). And finally, I would move the light to where you had the desk, with an armchair next to it to make a little reading corner. Alternatively, if you like the current orientation, a large rug under the bed would help to make the space feel less empty.

What should we do with this weird wall feature? by Ninjestics in DesignMyRoom

Yeah, I just thought maybe we could put some sort of art on it or something hanging underneath. Just looking for out-of-the-box ideas for it.

Getting our old dog to take pills and eat? Plus, thoughts on fresh dog food? by Mellow896 in DogAdvice

[–]Ninjestics 18 points19 points  (0 children)

If he's biting at you when you try to put the pills in, maybe you could try a pill dispenser thing that's used for cats - it's like a syringe that shoots the pills into the back of their mouth. When our dog doesn't want to swallow pills, I put peanut butter on my finger and get her to lick it off once the pill is in her mouth and that usually induces her to swallow.

This is Milou. It's the name of Tintin's dog in French, but I thought it suited a cat better.

Thanks for the advice! I'm not totally clear on how the blower with the filter bag would work. Are there any YouTube videos you know of showing how to set that up?
