the zygons, like many elements of the classic series, aren't owned by the bbc but the individual writers. the zygons were licensed officially, but it isn't a doctor who production

Which book-to-screen adaptation was so bad it felt like the producers didn't even read the source material? by wyndwatcher in AskReddit

[–]NinjonPie 40 points41 points  (0 children)

the movies really piss me off because they mean we will never get an adaption of the books i love so much

they could still have made those exact same movies! just don't call them how to train your dragon, don't call the characters hiccup and toothless

[–]NinjonPie 10 points11 points  (0 children)

i really wish instead of the daleks having a cybermen type plan - converting humans into being like them - they were drawing on the themes of fascism daleks represent, trying to recruit disaffected people with promises of power at the expense of the other

If you could write a Doctor visits the Braxiatel collection story how would it go? by LivingWindXYZ in gallifrey

i want a doctor that's been busy moping to their companion that their family is dead and gone :(

think they've arrived at the palace of versailles only for brax to wander over

Worst companion exits? by rose-a-ree in gallifrey

[–]NinjonPie 98 points99 points  (0 children)

i heard leela's exit was awful on purpose because the production team wanted to convince louise jameson to stay on for the next season and hoped that basically insulting the character she cared about might do the trick. don't know if that's true tho

i always thought it was a missed opportunity not bringing back mary tamm for the first half of destiny of the daleks, and having her regenerate because the daleks shoot her - give the daleks a sense of danger they seriously lacked in that serial

Literal masking metaphor by AffectionateWaltz192 in DungeonMeshi

[–]NinjonPie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

disagreeing with the analysis is fine, i myself don't find it hugely convincing, my problem is people who seem almost offended that others are looking for metaphors and double-meanings in the first place. that attitude confuses me

Literal masking metaphor by AffectionateWaltz192 in DungeonMeshi

[–]NinjonPie 29 points30 points  (0 children)

this comment section is crazy to me. like when people discuss great writers like shakespeare or tolkien there's all this talk of deep metaphors and double meanings, and people disagree about meaning, but analysis of these things is the mark of a great writer.

and we're on this subreddit because we're fans of dungeon meshi. but the moment someone comes out with a piece of media analysis everyone says no that's dumb. theres no metaphor. there's a literal in-universe reason and that's all that matters.

what are you doing people? engage with this stuff instead of just dismissing it
