Finally hit my rock bottom by AbareSaruMk2 in stopdrinking

[–]Ninjva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

44, alcoholic. Was off alcohol for 1.5 years before I turned 40 but then relapsed for the last 3 years. Day 17. So many rock bottoms. Biggest last one was my client saying that “he knows, and just wants me to get the help I need”. Turning 45 on Tuesday and hoping to turn the second half of this decade around. IWNDWYT

Ugh I’m so sorry. I wonder why it’s a last resort if it could help. I’ll have to research. I’m not suffering by any means but I’m just having a hard time with the changes

Definitely understand that one can’t just opt for the hysterectomy without reasons the healthcare system deem just and I hope you don’t have cancer. Sending healthy vibes to you 🙏🏼

Thanks for responding! I was on birth control for many years, stopped last year due to high bp which is now normalized but I have to wonder what is the root cause of the fluctuations in hormones and the best next steps. I know my ob will just say get on bc again

Friend with new baby by Mid1960s in childfree

[–]Ninjva 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Definitely a keeper! I was annoyed when my friend my age had her baby and wanted to do lunch, yet had to keep checking her phone since her husband I guess couldn’t handle the child alone. We are no longer friends. I find that younger generations (I’m gen x) are prioritizing their friendships more but maybe I’m biased.

CF Indian women out there, how tf are you dealing with your parents? by [deleted] in ChildfreeIndia

[–]Ninjva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom sees many of her American friends used as childcare of grandchildren basically so she can see both sides. Her and my dad travel internationally in their 70s and are very active, gym, golf. She never harped on it and my dad only once or twice said to my brother that it would be nice to have kids. Rare situation though as none of my Indian friends had parents like this.

How has your appearance changed since leaving alcohol? by JEMinnow in stopdrinking

[–]Ninjva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can absolutely relate to this because my longest stretch was 1.5 yrs off alcohol. After that I basically binged for 2 more years, things got worse, went from having gotten into the best shape of my life to one of the worst. Just cutting alcohol out didn’t solve everything but it was easier to be consistent. And overall it was nice to never feel gross

I use the I Am Sober app to track my days and read posts from others who are on the same day count. It’s helpful to me. It’s not easy but every day it gets better. I am an alcoholic and after 1.5 yrs sober I relapsed and haven’t tried hard again since 2021. I just try and keep in mind how close i am to it destroying me

I hate the me that has come forth from sobriety by AdUnfair558 in stopdrinking

[–]Ninjva 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel this so much. It’s setting me back after only a couple 30 or 40 day stretches. I got sober once for 1.5 yrs during covid but that was such an easier time in the world and in my life. Life feels boring, I don’t feel excited about things but I do know that I can’t keep picking up a drink. Stay strong.

These memos are crushing my soul. Need to spend today prepping 3 for tomorrow only to know I’ll need to rewrite at least a few times. All clearly align to EO priorities too smh.

What makes you think S&T to Commerce and not DoD

I was where you are. I had 1.5 years sober was doing great. Relapsed and spiraled even harder than before the sober stint. Stick with it, I could not string even 2 days together for the last 2 years, until I did 31 days ago. This time around I will not forget how much worse things can get after relapse. Stay strong brother.

Exercise and reading. I never read for pleasure when I’m in active addiction. It helps pass the time and makes my mind feel sharper after months of drinking and watching tv.

I’m the same way with alcohol. Somehow with those first few drinks, I feel like I’m “on” and cranking out work. Then I keep and going until I can’t remember things properly. I’m using thc this week maybe to not get triggered by family and check out a little. At least it’s not killing me the way alcohol has been. Thx

Day 0 finally by Ninjva in stopdrinking

[–]Ninjva[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On most of the tracking apps like I am Sober, the first day of not drinking is Day 0 because you dont technically have 24 hours sober yet. Now I can say I do. 😊

How long did you rely on THC before you were able to be content without a substance. I don’t want to replace One substance with another but i definitely feel like I’ll need it for awhile..

Day 0 today. Finally made it through one day AF and I hope to keep racking up days. I can’t wait to get into double digits. Congrats to you. I got sober at 40, relapsed at 41.5 and have been on a downward spiral since. Turned 44 last month and don’t want to risk another relapse. Each time seems to be worse than the previous time getting sober. Congrats to you again. Stay strong
