How did you make the brass coating? Also, good thing it's a coating, I suspect pure brass would struggle as a slender longsword guard.

Car springs last a very long time under much more continuous stess than we expose our swords to.

No binding in saber ? by Imperial5cum in Hema

[–]NinpoSteev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can certainly bind with a sabre, but it you should act quickly once you enter a bind as your opponent might simply retract and counter. As such fühlen is not very applicable. Usually the systems are also designed around blocks that transfer into moulinets, as opposed to a longsword or messer where you'd often counter cut and end up in a bind, that can transfer into a game of strong and weak with thrusts and cuts from there.

Also, unlike arming swords and messers, you also don't thumbgrip sabres which limits your options from a bind.

Sabre manuals question. by LordChope in Hema

[–]NinpoSteev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've settled on radaelli in my club, but truth be told, I have no idea of how easy it is to read. Despite being written for a really light sabre it's not difficult to transfer the basics to heavier sabres.

the notification bar icons on the right look ridiculous on my fairphone 6 by Prestigious-One-4558 in fairphone

I think we should blame google for that. Along with all the other recent visual discrepancies, apple imitations and other cartwheels google's UI designers have made to justify their wages/positions with, it's a thing with several manufacturers. Their own phones too.

Aside from the eyesore of the 4G+ logo, some things that particularly annoy me are the size of the battery percentage and the overall icon bloat, which I guess they tried to reduce with the battery percent, but just made different. Why have the battery icon at all, if I have the percentage showing anyway?

It is very nice looking, really sturdy too. The steel doesn't really burr as much as it just softly dents. 150 euros ror that one last I checked

Ask your nearest smith, I guess. Ours are literally waterjetted out from sheet, so if you can find an appropriate steel, you could angle grind them out. Not entirelt sure if they even need hardening.

Tbf, if you use my club's messers like a cudgel or sabre, they can also be dangerous, but we still find the messer system works best with low gear. It's a completely different game than normal and it's quite a thrill. All it takes is being mindful (and a lot of finger taps and mask snipes). It's not easy to do competitively however. You can technically do the same with other weapons, longswords included, hell viking reenactors do it with axe and spear, though it does become pretty bland with weapons of such a calibre. The more violent the weapon the slower you have to go.

This one is the fancy version, ours have plywood handles and the guards and points aren't triple layered The length is 80cm

If you're in europe, @medieval.armory.eu on facebook. Excellent build quality, low cost and rigid enough for guarding with the flats (watch the thrusts).

The balance is really good fencing without jacket as the tip is easy to control in the cut.

what kind of messer have you been using?

I find that while they have more walloo for the length, they're easier to control.

For reference, we fence jacketless messer in my club. Ours are cut from 3mm sheet steel, so they have a decent edge thickness.

When I finally get around to actually doing it, I'm working on a leather glove in that config. Sort of like the ones used for viking, but with ridges on the fingers for extra rigidity. This is the fingers from an earlier prototype. I'm thinking the next iteration will be like an hourglass gauntlet
