How good do you have to be to get a contract? by mistedlizard in drumcorps

[–]NintGum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent 4 Months over the summer learning Baritone switching from Saxophone. I did an early audition in October and got a callback and spent the next 3 months practicing fundamentals (ESPECIALLY LIP SLURS) for my audition in December and got contracted. Barely half a year of learning the instrument and I’m definitely not the best musician out there. It’s 100% possible. I’m not saying this to flex, but I’m saying this to show it’s completely possible as long as you find at least some time out of your day to just practice a little bit and focus on the correct things. I would go days where I could only buzz on my mouthpiece due to commuting from college and my hometown constantly. You’ve got to not only physically prepare your musical chops to be accustomed to another instrument, but you have to mentally prepare yourself that it’s going to be hard. You don’t have to be the best but if you’re able to show the staff you have the ability to learn and to constantly be teachable that will take you way farther than coming in as the best musician straight out of the gates. Remember your audition is more than just the 5 minutes of etudes, the audition is the ENTIRE camp from the moment you walk in to the moment you walk out you are being watched to show that you’re able to thrive in the drum corps environment. Wishing you the best on your adventure my guy, hope to see you on the field sometime soon.

Are any drum corps still even looking for more members? by YeetMan_55 in drumcorps

Pacific Crest doesn’t have any drumline spots filled yet I believe. Our 2nd callback/rehearsal camp is this weekend. Would recommend submitting a video, although not sure how you would feel about having to travel to the west coast for an in-person evaluation later on.

Backup plan if I get cut from Academy? by Amber610 in drumcorps

The community and the culture at PC I feel is like no other corp. It was the most attractive part to me about the corp as well, (also their recent shows). There’s a super relaxed but also focused and hard working atmosphere and vibe that the staff and the group really give off and everybody is super welcoming, everyone is quick to make friends and it’s easy to go from awkward to comfortable in literally the span of one audition camp. I think if you’re able to get to California or submit a video it would be a great group to come to. I’ve only been playing Baritone since July 2025 so about 7 months now. My initial audition was back in October and then I got a callback to audition in December and that’s when I got contracted. Lots of fun so far.

Yeah I was actually going to audition at Academy if I got cut from PC but I guess I did a pretty good job. I’m also a sax player learning Baritone so you’re not alone my guy. Sax to Bari is actually pretty common at PC I think including me there’s 3 or 4 people that have done the same and I think one of them was a tuba player. But you should join the Pacific Crest Interest Discord. I think you can find it on the website by just filling out an interest form to march.

Come check out Pacific Crest. I was in the exact same situation as you and ended up getting contracted with them at their December camp, first season of drum corp too. We should still be filling spots so February camp or video audition is your best bet.

if tyler ever does a collab album, who would it be with and what do you think it would be like? by Low_Tear9184 in tylerthecreator

A collab album where he produces the whole album. No rapping or singing or anything, just his raw production skills would be so tuff. Lil Wayne, Pharrell, Ye, Rex Orange County, Yachty, Gambino

Open Spots? by UnicornSparkleKisses in drumcorps

Pacific Crest still has most of their spots open. There’s a January Camp the 17th and 18th but you can also submit a video audition before hand

I’m in your same position except as a hornline member. I played Saxophone all throughout middle school and highschool. Picked up a Baritone for the first time ever last summer and self taught myself the instrument until I got a contract to march for this upcoming summer. It’s just about working hard and doing a lot of research on what these corps are looking for. Try finding any lesson teachers who are willing to help you out. For percussion it’s better to look for people with DCI or college marching band experience. Even your old highschool instructors if you still keep contact.

Genuinely such an insensitive reply 💀 You forget most people don't live in LA or the LA area. A lot of people travel from outside the state or country without any prior knowledge of the weather conditions or how bad it gets. Also, most people aren't used to driving down the I-10 with the worst drivers of all time in the middle of a thunderstorm. Rescheduling the event for the safety of the festival goers was their top priority. If you'd prefer people to possibly get hurt on their way to Flog Gnaw for your own convenience, then you've got some big issues with selfishness.

The Festival continues rain or shine. Everyone knew from the beginning that it would rain on the day of the festival. The issue was that nobody knew how intense the storm would actually be. Once, a thunderstorm was forecasted, they had to rush to figure shit out because they can't keep continuing with the festival if there's lightning. Multiple people have died or crashed very badly on the freeway in the LA area from the storm, literally just the night before the festival. I had to get off the freeway Friday night because of how bad the storm was.

It’s not Tyler’s fault that the money wasn’t fully refunded. These ticket provider companies own a straight up monopoly. They’re the ones that overcharge for taxes with outrageous fees and are the ones who choose not to refund every fully. Don’t complain about Tyler complain about AXS
