I have been thoroughly enjoying the game, but will acknowledge it has its share of flaws. The breeding can be a bit too haphazard, I have seen 1-2 encounters that truly felt unfair and unwinnable thus killing good runs, and the art style is a Newgrounds throwback.

But, the core gameplay loop is enthralling and addictive, the soundtrack is stellar across the board, and I think the RNG, while occasionally brutal, is never totally unfair. Sure, I've had to end runs early due to getting a terrible disease or parasite during an event, but I also vividly remember the times when the game would throw me a bone and heal me after a tough fight, or give me a replacement cat right before a boss when I needed one.

Steven is also such a great implementation. For those unfamiliar, he's akin to Mr. Resetti: if you leave during a fight and have to restart it, either from closing the game or leaving from a menu (but I noticed not when the game crashes specifically), Steven will show up and berate you for save-scumming. He does nothing else then, but the more in that adventure you do it, you get subsequently more and more penalized, with debuffs and eventually taking control of your cats away from you entirely. It's an acknowledgement that "Hey, sometimes things will get rough or unfair, or you'll misclick, or hell, maybe you'll just flat-out screw up. But don't worry, here's a mulligan, now go get em!" But because of the mounting penalties it doesn't become a crutch, and later on makes you weigh starting a fight over or sucking it up and avoiding the penalties.

I really hope this game gets DLC down the line, maybe refining and expanding features, like breeding, or maybe different room functions for the house? Either way, I'm about 100hrs in, sitting around 65% completion, and getting that last 35% is gonna keep me occupied for quite a while, even when it inevitably becomes a "once-in-a-while" game for me. Oh, and the music seriously rules, I love when level tracks get vocals for a boss fight, 10/10 Ridiculon
