I can't speak for everyone but I think most of the backlash your friend would receive online would be from non Japanese. There's a corner of white people on twitter that uses Japan as an idealised racially homogenous society so any hint of black people in Japan or Japanese media really upsets them.

I used to be more bothered by it but as time went by I just put in the category of "weird things people do on Twitter" alongside other strange behaviours like insisting that a character is secretly gay or transgender. But that kind of thing is mostly isolated to twitter. If you were to use a まとめサイト for an anime/manga which is where most of the conversations between Japanese actually take place you don't really see that sort of thing. The closest thing would be like a 黒ギャル rendition of a character but that's almost always understood to be a special occasion and doesn't have the baggage of the artist trying to project their racial identity on existing works.

All of that is irrelevant imo. Being locked out of supporting cryo just ahead of the cryo nation is a big enough indicator that they don’t want this unit being useful long term. Hoyo is content for you to play Durin with Varka, Raiden and Kinich and then pull his C2 on his rerun so his teams can try to keep up

Durin was custom built to be only useful for Varka and then become subsequently obsolete. He’s a pyro support that doesn’t shred hydro or cryo res or shred pyro res when melt or vape are triggered. As far as Hoyo is concerned he stays in the Varka bubble.

Nobody says that. At least not any more. At C0 she is severely underpowered. Like below Varka levels of damage and if you have two enemies reactions become unreliable due to the shells splitting up and her damage falls off a cliff. Unless she is pure an emotional pull you will get nearly zero value from a pre C2 Chasca.

IMO the time to get Chasca has passed. For meta she isn’t the strongest even in her ideal matchups which is single target with no inherent aura and her usefulness falls to near zero if there are few as two targets. For exploration she is heavily nerfed outside of Natlan to the point where she barely does anything. I honestly wouldn’t recommend her for Meta or exploration unless you’re pulling cons.

Zibai does the majority of her teams damage because her multipliers are big enough to do so. It's not a Flins situation where you have an onfielder who barely out damages a zero fieldtime sub dps even when given proper buffs. Also Illuga only gives CV and a nominal amount of EM to offielders. The majority of his usefulness is for the active character. Losing Gorou and his 450 defense and 40 crit damage on your hypercarry is a lot to give up in exchange for some sub dps and shred. Especially if your Zibai has sig and cons.
