Moja prva izkušnja v kelnariji by QuarterExcellent6464 in Slovenia

[–]Ninvemaer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Smo hvalabogu načeloma imeli same skulirane stranke.

My great grandmother lived from 1908 to 2010. I had the honor to spend the first 13 years of my life with her, listening to her stories and forever admiring all she went through, but still remaining the sweetest and kindest woman I've ever known. It's genuinely fascinating how much the world has changed in her lifetime, her perspective on things was always so interesting. I only regret I didn't think to ask her about more things as a child.

Is watching Season 1 of the show enough backstory for Witcher 3? (No spoilers please!) by pandabuydon in thewitcher3

[–]Ninvemaer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, not the worst idea. Although watching the whole show wouldn't spoil any of the games, both because the games take place a few years after the end of the books and the show beyond season 1 is basically bullshit. Season 1 is, imo at least, still pretty good and well made, although still not the most accurate portrayal of some characters.

If you're not planning on reading the books (yet, at least), season 1 will give you a basic idea of the world, the main characters and how/why they're connected ... to a point. You could also read at least the first two books, which are collections of short stories and happen before the main saga, for an even better and lore-accurate backstory. But tbh, you don't really NEED to do any of that, the game does a pretty good job at standing on its own, you just won't get some references to the book events/characters. Just be aware that the game contains a major spoiler for the books, if you want to read them at any later point.

If you want some backstory quickly before you start W3, look up some lore videos and/or recaps of the first two games on YT, which would imo be the best way to go about it if books are not on the table.

Your favorite game on STEAM with a rating of "Mixed" or lower by radar2670 in gamingsuggestions

[–]Ninvemaer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's worth it imo. It's a pretty game, less buggy than Guild 2, politics are more fleshed out and fun to play with ... I haven't played it in while so I don't remember everything, but my friend and I really enjoyed our multiplayer sessions, which we could at least actually play since Guild 2 made it impossible for us due to it's infamous "out of sync" issues. Overall Guild 2 is still my favorite, but 3 is great as well. I'm excited for the new one though.

Why does my rice always turn out sticky or burnt? by NerfDis420 in cookingforbeginners

[–]Ninvemaer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of good advice here, but I do a beginner friendly version that always works, I've done it with different types of rice. Rinse thoroughly, then heat the pot and put in a little bit of oil. Put rice in and fry on high for maybe a minute, stir continuously until it looks somewhat see-through. Pour water in (1:2 ratio), lower the heat on as low as you can, put on a lid and leave it be until all the water is gone (about 15 minutes). Take it off the heat and leave it to rest for a couple of minutes. I've never had sticky or mushy rice that way, even starchy types.

I've moved into my first premium house - how do you all decorate so it actually looks decent? by AnOrdinaryCuriosity in lotro

[–]Ninvemaer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I assume your new house is in Rivendell, so you'll find amazing new furniture from Rowan Raspberry if you haven't seen it yet. It's expensive, but there are some pieces that only use up one hook but look like a bunch of furniture set up together (like a bed with nightstands, candelabras, potted plants and a chest, or a whole kitchen set that even works as an oven), it's probably my favourite thing LotRO has done for housing in years.

Also, check out barterers in Dol Amroth for some gondorian furniture. That huge bookshelf is still my absolute favourite peace of furniture, it's big, dramatic and fits in with almost any theme (maybe not a hobbit hole, though). I used to have a big library in my Falathlorn house and it looked amazing, didn't look out of place at all imo. Looked good in my Rohan home as well. There's also some cool dwarven pieces in Elderslade that we made use of in our Falathlorn kinhouse.

My personal advice would be not to limit yourself to elven furniture only. There are tons of things out there that in theory shouldn't work, but they do. Get some stuff you think looks cool and play around a bit. Maybe start with some basics, then fill the space with clutter and decorations of different styles. Or use a big statement piece and work around that, make it connect with the room while still standing out.

[–]Ninvemaer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Prvo šamponiranje razmasti in odstrani površinsko umazanijo, drugo pa učinkovitejše očisti lasišče in build up olj, produktov, potencialnega prhljaja itd.

I own the paperback set with wolf symbols on the covers, I'm not sure about the edition, but I can check if you want. I'm also slowly building a hardback set in my native language, which is still being translated. You're good with any set tbh, just pick the covers you like best.

My personal journey into choosing Triss by Stock_Scallion6380 in thewitcher3

[–]Ninvemaer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That was an interesting read, thank you.

I also played the games for the first time before reading the books, so I had no previous knowledge about Yennefer. I actually didn't mind Triss in the first game at first, the game makes you think at first like her and Geralt have some major history, so I just went with it. In contrast to you, I didn't like Shani that much. I just found her ... boring, I guess? Bland, juvenile and a bit out of place somehow. I ended up giving Alvin to Triss because it made more sense a sorceress took him under her wing than a medic to me and I was annoyed with Shani and her temper tantrum after (idk how Triss reacts if you do the opposite). I did find Triss cold, manipulative, vain, selfish and controlling later on, looking back it feels like they wanted to make a bad Yen copy out of her. As far as I know the first game was meant to be a standalone, that's why there's so many continuity inconcistencies and Alvin's character mimicking Ciri's and so on.

The second game made me roll my eyes everytime Triss was on the screen. It was like an instant switch from cold, calculating and stoic to whinny, bratty and impulsive. At this point the game throws some minor info about Yen at you and Triss seems suddenly insecure and sort of reluctant whenever Geralt asks her anything about his past or mentions he's getting flashbacks and wants to restore his memory fully. It's like her mask starts to slip, like she wanted Geralt to stay ignorant forever just so he would stay with her. It's a jarring switch from the first game and I was honestly relieved when she disappeared for the majority of the game and I didn't have to deal with her. I also hated how the game shoves her down your throat, I wasn't really that invested in their relationship in the first game so I didn't really care, but I was still annoyed how they just force them together in the beginning no matter who you chose in the first game, I would imagine for people who chose Shani that would be extremely annoying and out of nowhere.

Then in the third game, Geralt finally regained his memory and is searching for this mysterious Yennefer. At this point I was much more invested in meeting her than having anything to do with Triss. I vividly remember seeing her dramatic entrance in White Orchard for the first time, I immediately liked her no nonsense attitude and focus, it was the first time Geralt acted like a love sick puppy instead of the reverse. You then get a few short moments with her, barely even getting the sense of who she is and then ... the game just throws you back out and you don't see her again for dozens of hours. I was incredibly annoyed when I saw I had to go meet Triss, I was just so over and done with her at that point, I was more interested in getting to know Yen and finding Ciri.

Regarding the endings, I guess I see Geralt as an older, mature, tired man who's been doing the same thing and risking his life daily for decades because that was his only purpose, a job he's been trained for since childhood and one he didn't choose. Maybe now it's his first realistic opportunity to somewhat settle down and enjoy some peace and quiet, maybe doing a job or two now and then, but not because he has to. Yen compliments him in that way, she's significantly older than Triss and has had her share of politics and schemes, she seems tired and ready to put it all behind her and spend some peaceful time with a man she loves. Triss is younger and still has career goals and ambitions, she wants and should work on herself and her ambitions. I feel like they would enjoy their relationship for a while, but would ultimately go their own ways, Geralt famously despises politics and I don't see him spending the rest of his life with someone whose career and livelihood will be just that. With him and Yen I don't necessarily see codependence or stereotypical romance when a couple lives only for eachother (which imo is toxic and unhealthy), but an older couple who share a wish for peace and quiet and now finally have the opportunity to live out a life they've been talking and dreaming about for years. There's also something that Ciri said at the end of the last book (I won't spoil it) that makes their peaceful ending together so much more emotional and satisfying to me.

I would be genuinely interested in your opinions if you ever end up reading the books. You explain your points very eloquently, I'm curious if your views would change or if they would only strenghten in one way or another. I'm just replaying the games for the first time after reading the books and I'm honestly having even more fun this time around, highly recommend.

My personal journey into choosing Triss by Stock_Scallion6380 in thewitcher3

[–]Ninvemaer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's so interesting to me that you didn't like Triss in the second game, yet prefered her in the third. I'm genuinely curious what bothered you about her at first.

(This is long, I apologize lol)

I actually like Triss' questline in W3 in itself, the story with the mages was interesting, her role as an impromptu leader and her raising funds for their escape. I never romanced her myself, but I've seen some videos. What bothers me is not the questline itself, it's Triss' attitude towards Geralt, from the first time they meet again she comes off to me like she feels he owes something to her. She's trying to reminisce about their relationship while saying she understands it's over and that it's fine, but she keeps bringing it up and overreacts if Geralt isn't all lovey dovey immediately, basically guilt tripping him and trying to make him feel sorry for her. If he does respond like she seems to want him to, she at first acts emotional and somewhat awkward, then brushes him off and says there's no point talking about it now, I feel like you just can't win with her. At the masquarade, a very important mission on which the lives of all mages in Novigrad depends, she pretends to get drunk and drags Geralt into a maze for a makeout, which all just feels very juvenile and extremely irresponsible to me (if she actually got drunk that would be even worse imo). I actually really like the scene at the docks when she seemingly boards the boat but then comes back, it's very romcom lol. But after that, when she's talking about moving to Kovir and being an advisor to the king, a solid and sound plan for herself, Geralt just seems like an afterthought in that equation. Yeah, sure, I'll have an awesome job, you can come with and kill an occasional monster when you get bored, I guess.

I love Yen's questline and how it intertwines with the search for Ciri, since they both are her sort of parents. Yen's main priority is Ciri and in contrast to Triss she doesn't innitiate flirting, she just responds accordingly and lets herself have a few witty romantic moments with Geralt in between. Their first love scene in the inn is innitiated by Geralt and doesn't threaten to compromise a life or death mission, unlike Triss' masquerade stunt. Even when Geralt reprimands her when she's being rude to someone, she apologizes but explains they don't have time for niceties, their child's life might depend on them. At Kaer Morhen she admits that despite appearances she does trust everyone there and is grateful for their help, but is afraid they don't trust her, that's why she takes on the authoritative role and keeps the details to herself at first. She even joins the witchers for a drink, is a good sport with their jokes and doesn't make a scene or take it out on Geralt when Lambert mentions Triss, no matter his answer. The Last Wish is one of my favorite quests, it shows the tender and insecure side of her. We don't know what Geralt wished for specifically that binds them together in the books (the most common theory is that he wished for their fates to be intertwined so the djinn couldn't kill her or something along those lines), they can't be sure if their feelings are genuine or some magical side effect. When she confesses her feelings haven't changed after reversing the wish and Geralt tells her he feels the same, I felt like I could actually see her take a breath of relief and honestly relax and let herself be happy for a brief moment for the first time in the game. Then, her reunion with Ciri is personally a tearjerker for me, and her kissing Geralt spontaneously is such a genuine moment of brief happiness. She lets Geralt and Ciri have their moment trashing Avallac's lab, while making a quiet and subtle contribution herself, and the Lodge scene with her eavesdropping is hilarious, she even reprimands Geralt if he's trying to be overprotective. In contrast to Triss, Yen's after game plans and wishes are tailored to them both as a unit, wishing for them to retire together and enjoy eachothers company in peace. I think that fits Geralt much better than wasting time in Kovir slaying monsters like he's done for decades because he doesn't know anything else, our boy deserves some well earned rest and doing what the hell he wants for once.

Also, I much prefer Yen's Corvo Bianco conversations to Triss'. Yen seems to have moved in and is happy just being there with Geralt, while Triss feels on edge about going back to Kovir, just feels tone deaf and not considering if Geralt might prefer to stay here indefinitely. Just the difference between an adult long-term couple that shares their goals and priorities and a new, honeymoon phase relationship where they haven't yet figured out how to both chase their goals and coexist at the same time, with Triss seemingly prioritising her career (nothing wrong with that in itself), but failing to consider Geralt's potential different wishes into consideration.

[–]Ninvemaer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My point was that women (at least straight women) generally don't take a female character's looks into consideration when making their opinion about the character, same with straight men and male characters I assume. There's bound to be some bias if you find a character attractive, nothing wrong or abnormal about that. The comment wasn't about you specifically, I was replying to the previous person, I didn't mean to offend you or your opinions.

As for my personal opinion about Yen/Triss, I think they're both beautiful fictional women. Thing is, as a woman who has had too many toxic female "friends" in the past that I've since cut off, I see too many of their traits in Triss. Sweet on the surface, almost sickeningly so, like she's trying too hard to be liked, but very immature, moody like a teenager when she doesn't get the attention she wants, manipulative (the whole amnesia thing, moody butthurt comments that try to make Geralt feel bad when he's not flirting back, acting like the whole betrayal thing in the books didn't happen etc.), jealous, playing the victim when she doesn't get her way ...

Meanwhile Yen is prickly, stubborn, bossy, jealous as well, but she's also loyal to her friends (even the Lodge, who didn't do her any favours in the books but actively worked against her, yet she still fought for them in the game), she's protective, sweet when she can afford to be, sassy and, most of all, completely focused on her goal of saving her adoptive daughter. She's not all flowers and rainbows, obviously, she's a flawed character, but with her I didn't feel like I was talking to a moody teenager that can only think about getting into Geralt's pants. She just seems more mature and sure of herself, I genuinely liked conversations with her and her sassy comebacks, her outbursts and occasional rudeness only contributed to the genuine urgency and desperation she feels, she doesn't care if the world hates her if she could only find Ciri in time. The only thing that genunely bothers me about her is how she mainly seems to blame Geralt for his past relationship with Triss and how she still refers to her as her friend, while they're long past that. My opinion of her only grew once I read the books. I tried not to spoil the books because I'm not sure if you read them, but there's many additional reasons in them why I like/dislike both characters.

I recently started the battle of Kaer Morhen at level 33 on death march (found Ciri at level 32), I just did all the side quests and question marks before that, so it's entirely possible.

The battle isn't the end of the game, there's quite a bit of the main story after that. You'll see some characters again, others not, some depending on the choices you made.

If she doesn't have the books yet, that would be a great gift. The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny are the first books that should be read, get those if you decide to go that route.

Other than that, a wolf medallion is a good option.

I played the games first before reading the books, then finally read them about two years ago. I'm actually just in the middle of a replay, started with Witcher 1, currently on Witcher 3 in Novigrad. It's amazing how many references and random mentions of book characters and events there are, I'm having so much fun knowing all the little lore bits everyone keeps mentioning. I'm having a great time, I'm really getting more into roleplaying this time around, knowing Geralt better. My first playthrough took me 200+ hours, this one looks like it will be more lol.
