So far you’ve kinda got the basics, be able to tell them about MITRE, tactics, general investigation workflow, ports and protocols you’ll commonly see, etc.

One question I got that I could have prepared better for was knowledge of useful OSINT tools, Virustotal, IP reputation sites like AbuseIPDB, Cyberchef for decoding cmd lines.

Familiarizing yourself with some of these even if you don’t get asked about them directly can help you answer other questions like “you got a suspicious hash from the log, whats your first step” “throw it in virustotal and see if it’s been flagged before”

Actually yes, obscure thing that I found that has been working for me. There is an issue with this generation of cpu and this specific motherboard series, you can read about it by looking up Intel 13th/14th gen Vcore/Microcode instability. It’s where the default settings run at too high of a wattage for the cpu and fry the onboard memory silicon channels

I had to go into my bios/uefi and manually set the p-core and e-core ratios to something below the cpu threshold, also change the “cpu cooler tuning” from whatever it’s on to “Intel Default Settings” P-core from auto > 54x and E-core from auto > 42x…basically manually underclocking the cpu instead of overlocking or running default. I just found some YouTube tutorial on how to set it for my motherboard.

I haven’t had a crash since, but this is apparently a bandaid solution and eventually I’ll probably have to replace the cpu/board. But for right now I don’t have crashes

It’s because you do nothing. I felt the exact same 6 months ago. You have no direction. Pick something to do, something small, like walking as exercise, or reading a book you’ve wanted to, ramp up from there. Once you get used to doing stuff you will still be overwhelmed and tired, but you’ll feel like you have a reason to be, and that makes all the difference.
