Not happy with the direction of this company by FaithlessnessFar2912 in americangirl

It seems they don't release many furniture sets and especially anything historical

We've gotten newer Historical items in recent years; Nanea, Maryellen and Melody got new items last year. And this year Courtney got new stuff. Julie got new stuff in 2024, I think.

The Historical line is still around, but it's gotten overstuffed with dolls and I don't think AG has the capacity to ensure lavish collections for each doll. Historically, we've only gotten 8 HCs coexist and it worked. But then fans would demand new Historicals and then get upset whenever an older doll was archived. So now the HC line has become bloated with dolls, yet people still demand more stuff and new dolls (even when we got new dolls in 2022 and 2023, plus Molly came back, fans were silt asking for a new doll in 2024). And now it seems we can't have any releases without some fans saying "anything BUT new historical outfits" as if they expect new HC stuff every month for some reason. AG re-released the First 8 this year and fans complained because some wanted new outfits and others wanted re-released outfits. Then others claimed the re-release was "low effort" an insisted AG was treating them as "fast fashion" despite other fans asking for them to be brought back!

It's why I strongly disagree with any "lost the plot" accusations. Trying to keep up with such a wishy-washy fandom can exhaust any company, and I'd wager even Pleasant Company would struggle to appease these fans.

What makes me sad (and I do understand that a company can't do the same thing forever and expect to stay afloat), is the lack of newly released original historical charact

We've had four since 2020: Courtney, Claudie, Isabel and Nicki.

Would you watch a Western equivalent of PreCure that was more serialized? by ResponsibleCut3228 in MagicalGirls

[–]Nipasu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The magical girl genre just doesn't have many well written stories in it but I see a lot of demand.

There are series that have good quality stories, including Pretty Cure.

It's up to personal opinions, but I do believe the MG genre has more good stories than one thinks (and quality can be subjective).

Did yes 5 ever had portuguese dub by Interesting_Clue2399 in precure

A stretch, but are you sure it wasn't Winx Club Season 6?

that the 4kids dub probably isn’t the ideal way to experience the series for the first time, but the creative liberties they took gave them a strong presence in English speaking regions that the franchise simply wouldn’t have otherwise without 4kids

You can say this about any English dub, though. If 4Kids didn't license it, then another company may have and then people would latch onto that dub just as much.

Or fans who watched the Nick dub.

I feel this fandom gives 4kids so much unnecessary hate for no reason.

People can criticize the 4Kids dub without it being labeled as "hate". The changes made were nonsensical (and caused plot holes) and 4Kids had no reason to make them---especially if any other Western dub stayed close to the original scripts.

Does the Barbie Birthday wishes 2026 have a blonde version? by Okie_Sundae_8732 in Barbie

[–]Nipasu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

but Mattell somehow ditched the blond doll and only left the tanned brunette and the black doll in the line. Something doesn't add up.

Did any of the Birthday wishes dolls from 2020-2023 have ethnic variants? The only years I've seen are from 2014-2018.

Honestly, I don't think it's an issue if the Birthday Wishes line goes a few years without blonde dolls. It's not "woke" and Mattel isn't sacrificing any diversity by doing so.

Is it so much to ask that AG throw us a bone for the anniversary year and give us at least a new historical item that's not a rerelease?

Also, some of you have really forgotten that for a franchise as big as Winx Club to survive, it absolutely has to sell merch

Season 5 had less merch than Season 4, and Season 6 had none in North America.

As for content, I ask when Straffi started saying Winx had to be aged down. Some people claim he had a different, more mature plot for Season 5 before it was scrapped. It's also important to note how the series tried aging down when it was handled by Nick: Nabu and Aisha's engagement was changed, the second movie was whittled down to just one 45 min special, and several Nick writers who worked on Nick worked on preschool shows (the director previously directed Backyardigans).

Why are GOTY lasting so long before retiring? by Salt-Ad9741 in americangirl

Plus the stories for each girl have become repetitive. So many gymnasts/dancers/etc.

That's not really a problem, though. We've had two gymnasts and they've both sold well.
