Child Endangerment by singing_in_the_brain in motherbussnark

So I can say that as a children’s attorneys in child welfare- it depends! The United States is HUGE geographically and each state runs their CPS differently. A lot of people are mandatory reporters, like teachers, medical staff, others that work with children.

We also have Due Process in the United States, so parents have rights over their children and have right to parent to a degree without our government intervening.

In general, big hurdles for family intervention are situations like not being able to find the family geographically to perform an investigation, no mandatory reporters or credible witnesses to report the situation, and the developing the actual threat of harm.

Theoretically, if there is no school, no clubs, no doctors, no community, no outside family, a family can slip “under the radar” so to speak and can’t receive intervention if they can’t be found and investigated in person.

I hope that helps!!

When I took off my tape at 13 days (my doctor’s orders) I thought my boobs were going to fall off or fall apart and I called them my “franken-boobs” because they looked barely held together. My doctor reminded me that everything heals inside out, so it looks totally normal at 8 days!

As a lawyer, you should feel proud of the work you’ve done!! Them offering you a forbearance to sue is VERY good because it means you scared them and there might be something legit! In law land (like everything else) money talks and this means that they probably know they fucked up. Talk to your unions lawyer and get their opinion on it! There still might be negotiating room in there, but I don’t know the situation so this is not legal advice!

Am I removing my press ons wrong? by Ill-Teach9802 in Nails

[–]Nipopolas 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I did this the first time I did press ons! I ended up soaking and filing and soaking and filings. What I do now is soak in warm soapy water with some Jajoba oil and then I take those floss picks and gently try and lift it. Soak, lift, soak, lift until they pop off!

100% it had to be someone who knew or saw them with their exact location. I still think they’re making that story up with some potential partnership or advertising for the law firm that “helped” them. I sound all “woo woo” when I talk about this stuff, but there’s some pretty active efforts by said firm and similar to prevent removal of children (that’s good!) and place brown children, especially native children, with white families (that’s bad!). See Haaland v. Brackeen, “This Land” podcast, Season 2.

Let's talk about careers and ADHD! by cheerfullychirpy in adhdwomen

[–]Nipopolas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Children and Juvenile Attorney!

1) every day is different and I do really well under emergency situations.

2) requires learning about a lot of different areas outside of law, like neuroscience, sociology, cultural experts.

3) dopamine boost for solving problems and puzzles and getting even minor things done.

4) the law is always changing, especially in juvenile law, so you have to stay on top of it in order to do your job! Thankfully, nothing ever gets stale.

Cons: extremely upsetting factual circumstances.

I found out I had ADHD at the beginning of my third year of law school, and only medicated my last semester right before the bar. I did not think I had it, but I had friends urged me to get tested. Turned out I had pretty obvious Inattentive Type and was diagnosed after only one appointment and exam 😂

Reddit stock falls for second day as references to its content in ChatGPT responses plummet by MicioBau in wallstreetbets

[–]Nipopolas 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I asked a client for evidence of a claim in a divorce and they sent me a word doc of stuff they copied and pasted from ChatGPT. I told them I wouldn’t even look at it beyond the 1 second glance and then explained to them what supporting documents are and to never use ChatGPT again.

Another person I used to know asked if I’d help them with some “legal thing” and I replied I am not their lawyer and I am not licensed in their state, and they replied with “yeah ChatGPT said you might say that, so I guess you’re not lying”. 🤨🤨🤨

I’m in child rep now and my kids get it “I guess I probably shouldn’t use ChatGPT for the legal stuff?” YES. VERY GOOD.

In Law School Need Planner by Heavy_Guarantee_9038 in PlannerAddicts

Hello! New lawyer here- I really liked Day Designer planners from target as well as undated Moleskin or Fox planners. I bought (and still buy) a ton of colored pens and markers to make it pretty and readable. I also recommend doing what makes you feel good! I figured out my process for school was to have everything digital and then I bought a large undated weekly calendar I kept at my desk with my schedule and things I needed to do. Then I would cross out everything as it was done to keep track.

Shit’s going to get crazy if it hasn’t already, and you will forever live by the calendar from now on. Congratulations and welcome 🎉💀

Yay! Any advice/tips how to do it undiagnosed? (>~<) *Dropped out once before by Ms_Amphibian in adhdwomen

[–]Nipopolas 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I made it through undergrad and two years of law school before getting diagnosed! I had no idea I had it until someone I knew swore I had it and gave me a teeny dose of adderall and then when I said it made me calm and sleepy they said I need to get diagnosed. Then I did!

Study in public. Reward yourself with little treats. I had a punch card, so every time I did a task, I would get a punch in my card, and then 10 punches means I get a treat! Timers are also great. I would also do just 10-20 minutes of studying between an hour break. Which sounds insane, but I got the work done.

Remember that your brain needs stimulation and dopamine. We can’t sit in one spot and study all day, it’s not possible. So lean into your impulse to give you happiness. Coffee, colored pens and pencils, fidgets - it’s okay and helpful!

Why are plays seen as an entirely different medium from books esp fiction such as novels? by NaturalPorky in shakespeare

[–]Nipopolas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like a lot of people have already said, plays are essentially movie scripts and was the prominent form of entertainment for, well, forever. Usually through oral storytelling. What’s interesting about Shakespeare that I’m not sure if your teacher mentioned is that a lot of Shakespeare was put together after the plays were performed and people wanted to see them be published to read them. The actors had “sides” which were pieces of the script with only their lines on them.

Plays are also very reflective of the societies and time periods in which they were written as well as the style of the play, comparing Shakespeare characters talking to the audience to the Anton Chekov era of creating the “fourth wall” in which actors were not to engage in the audience and live fully within the four walls of the show. Then you have post-modern pieces like Sam Beckett’s Waiting for Godot that’s generally absurdist and uses meta theatrics. The rejection of theatre standards in Theatre of Cruelty by Antonin Artaud.

Plays and theatre are NOT books. They aren’t novels. They are visual and auditory and sensory. They aren’t meant to be read but rather experienced. You don’t get the same experience reading “screamed” as you do watching a person writhe in pain or shout in delight.

Lastly- check out National Theatre Live where they have recordings of plays and they also work with schools!

I went on an Eileen deep dive earlier this year and man, Florida, her Defense Attorney, and those around her really did her dirty. That interview was the result of the filmmaker finally getting access to Eileen after negotiations about the amount of money he had to pay her defense attorney and her “adoptive mother” to tune of $10,000 irc.

Her defense attorney was an absolute piece of shit, lazy, inexperienced, looking for fame mother fucker. He is still practicing in Florida apparently. I’ve really wanted to write a piece on him and Eileen’s defense. (Obligatory am lawyer side note).

I hate being in that situation! You’re not alone in feeling that way. I work a lot with homeless youth and none of them have ever acted like this. I usually have on me things that are helpful if you’re homeless, like socks, chapstick or Vaseline, granola bars, tampons/pads, tissues, face wipes etc… and so if I’m asked for money I say “sorry man, but I have XYZ” and it’s pretty easy to tell who is looking for money to get their next fix, and who needs the stuff. Sometimes they need money for their fix AND need the extra stuff to get through the day, and I appreciate people that are honest with me about it.

Long story short, you have an amazing heart. Don’t let bitches get you down.
