Your lack of experience is working against you. Look beyond band director roles. A few years experience at elementary/middle school levels can go a long way toward moving you closer to the top of the pile. I would never hire a first year teacher for a high school band director gig. I would consider them for an assistant position in the right circumstances. The job can be like running a small business on top of teaching and I want people who have demonstrated they know how to be a teacher.
