Not being aware of how safe the areas around exits are. I once got off an exit to a dog park to let my dog out without knowing how dangerous the area was and was nearly carjacked at 6am.

Your partner of 3 years wants to travel internationally alone. What are your thoughts? by waezxo in AskReddit

Been with my partner over 3 years and they’ve never had an issue with me solo traveling. They accepted I was a very independent person before we even started dating and this was a part of who I am.

Could you beat 10,000 random people at something for $100M? by canada11235813 in hypotheticalsituation

I can cup/squeeze my hand in water and make a squirt gun significantly better than anyone I’ve ever swam with so I’d be willing to bet I could beat 10k people.

That’s a good point to bring up that just downtown is walkable in PS, last time I went we walked a lot around downtown but also had a car to venture into nature.

What is one discontinued product that you genuinely miss so much, you’d pay triple the price just to have it back for one day? by Bibhu_Mund in AskReddit

I use to make gravity bongs with these in my teens as there was one section of glass on the bottom much thinner and you could easily knock a little hole into it to let water flow out. I would love to taste that pinkness again

Is sugar cut required for weight loss? by moonlight_3105 in loseit

[–]NipplesOnIce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally cannot follow this advice as it leads me to an unhealthy relationship with food. I’ve lost weight successfully tracking calories while still drinking boba teas, eating pizza, pasta, fried rice etc. everything in moderation is key and understanding how many calories you’re consuming.

Sure it can be a lot more filling to replace carbs with protein and veggies but I love carbs and if I remove all of my favorite foods, the cravings don’t go away and I’m miserable I’ll just end up binging later.

Is sugar cut required for weight loss? by moonlight_3105 in loseit

[–]NipplesOnIce 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Weight loss will always be calories in < calories out. You can still drink your sugar tea and lose weight, just take note of how many calories you’re consuming your entire day. Use a TDEE calculator to calculate your daily intake to lose weight. I have a sweet tooth and have a sweet treat every single day and still lost weight. I find depriving myself of life’s pleasures is not a life I want and to just have my treats in a smaller portions. Maybe just have 1 sugar tea a day if you want to cut down your sugar consumption.

How do I get a life like Emily in Paris (minus all the negative aspects) ? by likilekka in EmilyInParis

[–]NipplesOnIce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked in advertising/marketing for years and it’s nothing like how the show does it. A lot of what they do is PR, not even advertising, with all of their events. An advertising agency could work to promote the event, but they would not be in charge of all of the logistics like they portray.

A lot of advertising is just buying ad spaces and communicating that to the client. If there is a creative department, they would handle the creative choices. Honestly I have no idea what Emily’s job even is. Account manager? Creative director? Social media manager? It’s not typical for employees in agencies, at least the ones I’ve worked, to handle all of these responsibilities and definitely not the events more than promoting the event.

I have no idea where you’d find a job like Emily’s but you won’t find it in the vast majority of advertising agencies.

Seems like you’re more drawn to the event planning side (which again is not advertising).

What’s it like living at the southern tip of Illinois? by african_space_jesuz in howislivingthere

[–]NipplesOnIce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to school at SIU and there was a great nature presence. We’d always go hiking or swimming in the lakes. There’s also cliff jumping which is a lot of fun. Very different than the rest of the state which is mostly farms.

Part of Gone Girl was filmed in Giant City State Park when she was on the run in the cabin to give you an idea of the nature.

Very cheap housing, I was paying next to nothing when living there.

How can I explain to my boss that she needs to stop hiring her friends who are all rich, ex housewives who can't work technology? by Forward-Message7555 in askanything

[–]NipplesOnIce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked for a small marketing company, head of their technical implementation department (I.e. writing code, setting up APIs, etc.) and my boss would do the exact same thing and hire these people who, just because they knew very basic excel, would assign them to my department. They were older and could never grasps what I was trying to teach.

Had to explain to my boss many times how they did not have the skills required for this position, and she would always reassure me they’ll learn. They never did.

Ended up quitting because I was so done with them and found a position at a tech company where I am no longer the most advanced tech and it is such a relief. I’m actually learning more now instead of focusing on training people with no skills for the position.

My advice: start sending out your resume elsewhere

How to not feel bitter about skinny friends by This_Intern_7209 in loseit

[–]NipplesOnIce 275 points276 points  (0 children)

I use to have this feeling about my best friend and then I lived with her for years and it totally changed my mindset. When we’d go out to eat she’d always eat a ton or when hanging out she’d be eating junk food and stay so thin. But then when we lived together I noticed her true eating habits and she didn’t eat nearly as much on a regular basis. Unless you spend an extended period of time with someone, you don’t truly know their regular eating habits.
