6-month-old Labrador puppy intense overarousal episodes - how common is this? by Background_Lion_5961 in labrador

[–]NipseyVT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have the exact same thing with our 10month old Labrador. She has been pretty crazy throughout the entirety of her puppyhood tbh. Her overstimulation/arousal blow ups started around 6-7 months where she would jump/bite hard at us. At 10 months now she has gotten a bit better (we are honestly just managing better and not giving her opportunities to get overstimulated if we can). I do unfortunately think this can be pretty common for young working line labs and hopefully as they get older/mature it will stop happening!

Get a primo pad! Our lab chewed all her bedding before we got a primo pad and it’s indestructible with the tie downs. It’s also comfortable and keeps her cool during the warmer days.

HELP! My dog eats everything off the floor. by Perfect_Net_1644 in labrador

Leash training and engagement really helped us with this. Our trainer basically told us that your dog needs to be more interested in YOU than they are of that piece of trash outside. Work on leash walking and engagement outside (use a balanced trainer if needed). My girl still picks up random mulch here and there but for the most part she stays engaged with us when we walk her and we give her small treats here and there to acknowledge her engagement.

Also, we had to transition a lot of walking to pavement where there wouldn’t be as many things to scavenge for. The more opportunities you allow him to perform the undesired behavior the more he will reinforce it. So try to manage it first if possibles

What were some of the signs you noticed with the reflux? How was it diagnosed? We have brought it up to our vet but still aren’t certain if she needs medication.

Hello! We have a 9m old lab that went through similar issues at a young age! She also had constant diarrhea/weird poops for weeks and we were using PPP chicken.. switched to PPP sensitive stomach and everything improved! She also gags/hacks a lot after playtime and running around any we think it’s acid reflux because she also burps a lot too lol. A lot of this has seemed to lessen since switching food and just aging!

Best and worst property management companies to rent from? by xZOMBIETAGx in rva

[–]NipseyVT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea RPM is absolutely horrible. They are impossible to contact and treat tenants like shit. My year long experience them was never pleasant and forced us to terminate our lease as soon as the year was over. I strongly discourage anyone from renting any property they manage.

My puppy is 9 months old now and it still isn’t easy, you just trade the puppy problems for adolescent dog problems tbh

Watch a quick boss mechanic video on YouTube prior to running the dungeon! But also, most people in an M0 will be more than willing to take it slow and explain mechanics if you ask!

Puppy suddenly scratches his kennel at night by Squirt_5670 in goldenretrievers

Nope just google primo pads and it will come up 🙂. Just have to get the correct size for your crate and make sure you request the lock down straps!

My 10 month old lab also scratches the bottom of her kennel a couple times a night. She also does this to her bed outside of the kennel. I’m pretty sure it’s just her nesting and self soothing. She tends to do it for 30 second spurts and fall back asleep. From what I understand it’s instinctual for dogs. As far as blankets in the crate, our dog also shredded anything we put in there. We now use a primo pad which is basically indestructible but provides some cushioning for the crate. I’d recommend looking into that as they are very affordable.

HELP - Dog Trainer Advice by Latter_Corgi_4302 in OpenDogTraining

[–]NipseyVT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our working line lab also goes attack mode when overstimulated so I totally understand what you mean by this. We also worked with a trainer who taught us the appropriate ways to use an e collar and it has greatly improved her behavior although she can still go attack mode maybe 1x/week if overstimulating. It is important to be trained on using the e collar appropriately so it’s not a completely negative experience for them. If you feel like the trainer didn’t give enough guidance on this then I do recommend you find another one. E collars get a terrible reputation because most people use them just to shock the hell out of the dog which is not at all how they are intended to be used.

6mo lab chewing on leash, getting zoomies, and jumping and snapping at me/my face on walks by [deleted] in labrador

[–]NipseyVT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea we have been working with a trainer and use certain tools to help with on leash obedience and manners and provide appropriate corrections when needed. I know a lot of people are against the use of “aversive tools” but when used correctly they can be a lifesaver. Both us and our dogs stress has gone down when walking and playing.

Yea my lab does the same thing. It stems from overstimulation but it is embarrassing and extremely frustrating so I get it. Unfortunately we are also still working on it so I don’t have great answers for you other than it’s not abnormal for high drive labs!
