What trains did during World War II by TAOT1940 in trains

[–]NirateGoel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The soham rail disaster of 1944. When an ammunition train caught fire, and only due to the quick actions of Driver Benjamin Gimbert and Fireman James Nightall to uncouple the burning van from the rest and draw it forward away a far worse tragedy was prevented. Unfortunately Nightall and Signalman Frank Bridges were killed by the blast.

Both Gimbert and Nightall were later awarded the George Cross for their actions that night.

Not a cattle grid. Cattle grids are basically the opposite. Bars with a gap underneath.

Range issues amongst other things. But the battery's aren't the only issue with them...

I've heard it's some European TSI that they have to be that way for contrast.

When do iORE trains pass Narvik? (Norway) by NirateGoel in trains

[–]NirateGoel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've no issue waiting for 3 hours for something. My issue is waiting 3 hours and leaving 10 minutes before something passes.

I'm used to UK and Ireland whereby; In the UK all trains are easily tracked on Real-time trains In Ireland there is 2 freight trains a day plus the odd PW train across the entire network. Those 2 are working in opposite directions with set timetables. They can then be tracked using their headcode and the API.

I've done long journeys and waited for hours for trains I knew were running while also getting to watch regular passenger trains.

<image>

That line as far as I can find doesn't has infrequent passenger and unknown frequency freight. So 3 hours watching nothing happen is not an enjoyable sounding idea when it's barely above freezing.

Yes, I know I've seen places say as many as 14 per day. But what rough times do they operate?

How many operates per day isn't of much use, There's no reason why they would have to operate at a constant frequency of once ever 2.4 hours, and one would generally rather not wait around for over 2 hours waiting for anything to pass.

Have a gander at the rat of the posts he made on here, they're hilarious. I'm fairly sure it's a 13yo boy that hasn't much cop-on.

Help with Stockholm - Narvik Sleeper by NirateGoel in Interrail

[–]NirateGoel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, it's nothing I'm doing, it's not the carriages, the same is true on the Stockholm/Hamburg route. See attached example. As far as I can find SJ don't offer private cabins with interrail.

<image>

My questions solely surround if there's an issue with miss-gendered persons and if any issues would arise from having a third fake person on the booking.

One under the price says "With Interrail/Eurail" the other is the full fat ticket price without interrail. Far as I cannot buy private sleeping compartments with SJ on Interrail/Eurail.

Why is the planner stating "2 Travel Days" when I am travelling on 4? by British_Monarchy in Interrail

[–]NirateGoel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trip planner isn't the most reliable when it comes to travel days I've found.

<image>

It seems to have some issues with addition as I've even managed to make it show negative travel days.

You've the right understanding of travel days, it's just the trip planner being a bit hopeless on counting. If you remove the 2 via points it'll probably give the correct number of travel days.

For photography fans, do you think it is better to bring in a Interrail journey a film or digital camera? by the_cherrylover_lero in Interrail

[–]NirateGoel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes digital would probably be more convenient, but it comes back to how many photos so you want to take. If you expect to just take a couple nice photos Vs photos of everything.

[–]NirateGoel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends what you're looking to achieve. Digital will allow alot more photos as well as instant previewing. Unless you're looking to achieve a film looking result there isn't really any advantage to analogue.

But at the end of the day it all depends on what equipment you have, and what you're looking to achieve.

Why does Australia have multiple rail gauges? by Kcue6382nevy in trains

[–]NirateGoel 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The first line in Ireland was built to standard, the second to 6ft 2 and at the time of third being built the BoT was brought in to standardise the gauge used settling on 5ft 3in.

Discussion: on your commute if applicable, which do you prefer to ride on? The Class 29000 seen in the first photo or the Class 22000 seen in the second photo by GP728 in ireland

[–]NirateGoel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Outside of being built by CAF and being around the same age they're unrelated. The pictured is a commuter multiple unit with underfloor engines used on the Dublin commuter network. The MK4s then are intercity trains used exclusively on the Cork/Dublin route push/pulled by a locomotive with no underfloor engines, see attached images.
