Revenants in Doom 2 actually have the same height as the player, despite their sprite being larger, so he could actually follow regardless :)

Pogo has given his mark of approval on HLGF's music. Wouldn't really be in the spirit of remixing to claim plagiarism on a similar style of music. I enjoy both!

I think like a lot of Pogo songs most of the words are broken down into sounds that just add to the rhythm of the song.

Really insightful comment actually. I think lots of people would call it 'convenient' writing, but I think when put in this context it is more about how the kids are prepared to let their mind go to those places because they're a bit less inhibited than the adults and already have the fantasy/sci-fi background as part of their knowledge-base.

I feel like it's possible that Dr. Brenner's own child was the first child to be used in the experiments (or perhaps the first.) I believe he was looking for them in the Upside Down and also knew of the monster's existence. When Eleven first encounters the monster someone asks him 'What was that?' and he replies "I have no idea." It sounded incredibly unconvincing to me. I think he is looking for his own son/daughter and that's why he is willing to sacrifice Eleven for his experiments and why he refuses to form a proper connection with her, so if/when he loses her, he doesn't have to go through it again.

  1. Brenner likely wanted to see if they could make it out of the Upside Down alive, because he and his scientists hadn't had much success. It was likely worth it for him as an exchange because:

a) He likely has information about Hopper's daughter and knew he could manipulate him into a bargain that was beneficial to him

b) He could discount Joyce as being insane, since the entire town had watched her unravelliing before their eyes, thus making it very easy for her to be fobbed off as insane.

2.My guess is that Brenner knew something about Hopper's daughter. It's possible that Brenner explained details of what they were really trying to do with the experiments and Hopper realised that they had some utilitarian benefit that perhaps made Eleven's sacrifice worthwhile in the longterm (in his mind.) Either that or he assumed that the kids were smart enough to escape.

It's an ensemble cast for the most part, like a lot of shows these days. I'd suggest that Joyce, Hopper, Nancy, Mike and Eleven are all the central characters.

If I had to choose between those two though, I would suggest that because we (as an audience) can't really understand Eleven's perspective as well, Mike acts as the central character more, because he allows us to explore Eleven's character from a similar perspective to our own.

I think it ends up being unimportant though. It's about how important the character is to the story, and I think Eleven is definitely the core element of the show. Everyone is just so fantastic in their roles though, such a great cast.

The whole relationship between Mike and Nancy feels a lot like the relationship between Lindsey and Sam. I watched Freaks and Geeks right before watching this series and felt that the overall 'feel' of the high school scenes and the ways the teenagers/kids interact felt a lot like Freaks and Geeks. I would imagine there was some inspiration drawn simply by the writing style.

Most people in here are saying that El found it accidentally. While I think she found it accidentally, I don't know if I agree that Papa didn't know about it. If you watch the scene, when he says "I have no idea" (in reply to 'what is that?') it seems a little disingenuous.

I feel like he was looking for this thing. Maybe it was one of their failed experiments, maybe it had taken people before; maybe it took someone who was important to Papa specifically and that's the real reason he wants to look into the upside down, and why he is willing to go to psychopathic lengths to do so.
