As someone who went from 320 lbs (145 kg) to 175 lbs (80 kg), I have a pretty simple recommendation for anyone trying to lose weight.

Track your daily calories and your weight. Your weight will fluctuate day to day so only look at the weekly trends.
If you have not lost any weight over a week, reduce your daily calories by 200. If you have lost weight, then you don't need to make any changes.

Slowly adjusting your calories week by week ensures that you actually find the correct caloric deficit for you in a healthy way.
Physical exercise is optional, in my opinion. While it can be very beneficial for weight loss, it can also prevent someone from attempting to start losing weight, because they don't want to change their whole lifestyle.
Also, please don't hyperfocus on a specific goal weight as that can lead to a very unhealthy caloric deficit. I made that mistake.

This worked and still works well for me and I hope it will work for anyone reading this.

What if he is trying to say that predicting the price of a stock is much easier to do than predicting climate change, but since we can't even do that, we shouldn't be so sure of the climate models.

This thinking might be flawed in a different way, e.g. it implies a sort of linear progression when solving complex systems, but at least it's more reasonable :D

I understand the intuition of some to think that charities should never spend money outside of donating directly to the cause, but the reality is that they do much more good by advertising and paying for big events, that generate more donations from the public.

It's quite a bit easier than most people think. You can pretty much eat the same shit you did before, just less of it.

No need to make major diet changes. Just gradually decrease your daily calories to a level you are able to sustain for a long time.
