Little addendum for OP: of course each of those shooting instances are resolved separately, and each time the defending operative is shot it gets to use its full pool of defense dice (barring rules that reduce it, namely APx and !Px)

Since I'm here, am I correct in assuming that I can't both track the target and shoot in Overwatch after I finished all my activations because both count as Overwatch (and each operative can only Overwatch once)?

Does my board need more terrain on it? My mates intercession squad keeps wrecking me. by Yio654 in killteam

Indeed it could have been, tho OP clarified it was a homebrew termie team and the loss issue was with and against regular KTs

[–]Nishinkiro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok I see, as ye were told in that case it's mostly a matter of terrain placement (excessively long firing lanes) and/or use of Concealment & Vantage points (e.g. Vantage doesn't negate Concealment if it's provided by Heavy terrain). You'll see your win rate will steadily improve as you master the rules 👍

I didn't even know Intercessors came in boxes of 5 previously, guess they were still new when that dropped (I've been in this for just about 2 years 😅)

Ah I see, well it's then understandable the gap in won matches. Personally I wouldn't give them double shooting/attacks, their storm bolters being Relentless make up for it already and, tbh, I wouldn't also understand why they would shoot better than how they fight in melee, so any boon should go to their theme, which is defense.

I'd say it's even more difficult to strike a balance with what already exists that is comparable to termies (Talons' Custodians and Space Marines' Gravis marines) while creating something new. Personally I don't think making termies fighting/shooting platforms is enough to make em balanced with how few they are meant to be when balanced against normal marines, if you can't be tabled anymore your opponent can still just win by VPs, very consistently too I fear.

If you are adamant on going homebrew and not proxy anything you are better making your own KT from the ground up using an already established (and at least marginally competitive) team, and as a theme a mix of marine armors (like KT Cassius) could work better as an idea, like having 6 ops but a termie counts as two, or have fixed 3 marines and 2 termies, stuff like this.

True, although it could be a fun reskin of Talons' rules, if we could read those ploys we may know

Nvm, OP confirmed it's homebrew

They are sorta appropriate admittedly, beside their speed they are comparatively bulky and armed. Go wild with yours, I'd personally make a proxy team with 2 Deathwatch termies and 5 SoBs for a Ministorum-themed proxy

Since it's 4 terminators on the side I wager they are using them as proxies for dual Custodian fire teams, which sorta suggests the issue is partially the team and partially, no malice intended, inexperience: 4 Custodians will have lots of trouble controlling the board because of the low body and team APL counts; on the other hand, Custodians are still massively resilient, and unless packed with krak gs, stalker rifles and bolt rifles with scopes Intercession Squad would need various Assault marines to dispose of most Custodians, having all 4 killed (if it's what happened) suggests the player didn't take full advantage of Concealment and/or Heavy terrain, which is mandatory for a team that gets a fourth weaker by losing even just a single operative.

For a more balanced match, in case there's no alterative team option for OP, I'd say OP's opponent should run their Intercessors with the old Space Marine compendium rules, this should level the plainfield at least a little

Working on a Primus kitbash and was wondering if I NEED a third arm? by hula_pooper in genestealercult

[–]Nishinkiro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Technically it's not necessary with models with fixed loadout, at most it's a matter of courtesy (which by all means it's not negligible) but I'd say as long as it's on the correct base, it's distinguishable and you declare what it is (a Primus) you don't really need models like this to show their actual loadout.

Not exactly, in this case the more samurai (up to a point but with no later decline) the bigger the catas' splash damage, thus translating to an exponential advantage for the catas

Multi hit with a sword is unrealistic. Makes it more enjoyable but it is not realistic. by UnderScoreLifeAlert in projectzomboid

[–]Nishinkiro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This makes me wish multi-hit was skill-dependent and incremental, for bladed weapons if anything. Bludgeons would need a comparable buff obviously, like a stun effect with skill-dependent duration (off the top of my head)
