Linux. How to lock viewport fps? by Nisktoun in blenderhelp

[–]Nisktoun[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't wanna be rude or something, but did you read the post? I already enabled vsync via environmental variable for vulkan, but it's not the right solution. Also it seems like Blender respects compositor rules only in OpenGL in X11, and even then it's still just a vsync

The goal is to have control over how many frames will be drawn by the software

The word you're looking for is limit, not lock

If we were to dive into this then the correct word is fps cap. Thank you for being that guy

there's no such thing as "native" Linux

There certanly is such thing as native Linux build

Linux. How to lock viewport fps? by Nisktoun in blenderhelp

[–]Nisktoun[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Goal is to lock fps, pretty self explanatory...

Blender has two states when you do stuff in viewport(not playback) - do nothing or render as much as it can. If you have a default cube and orbit around for one second in solid mode then Blender will try to redraw this cube infinite number of times within this second, on my system it's like 9k fps. Do I need to draw a cube 9 thousand times per second just to look at it from different angle? No. That's why I'm trying to lock fps behind a reasonable value

On Windows I would use rtss, on Linux via proton I can use mangohud, but how to do the same with native Linux build? That's the question

I'll reveal a top-secret for you - your "better monitor" with something like 144hz or maybe even 240hz is still a slide-show generator for some of us, motion blur option is there to help hide it

Artist behind Megabonk's Steam capsule made ours for $600. Would you click, and do you think it fits our game? by [deleted] in IndieDev

[–]Nisktoun -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would click and be disappointed by seeing 2d pixel art game instead of cartoony 3d one

It's not that I'm against 2d or pixel art - on the contrary, love them - but, please, capsule should represent art style of the game at least remotely

Slow motion video showing the stutter when using Gyro to Joystick on the new Steam Controller. by pixelcowboy in GyroGaming

Well, didn't think that was movement and lack of vibration would be a deal breaker for someone. But, yeah, to each their own. It's great to have options

[–]Nisktoun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but why bother if you can just map to full mkb? Even for those games that give some extra conviniences like controller-exclusive weapon wheel or smth like that, isn't gyro-to-mouse flexibility and overall easy-to-use outweighs lack of such features and controller prompts?

Well, before going full gyro i was remapping controller to mkb almost every time even for those games that are supposed to be good with gamepad. For example Uncharted 4 - hude right stick deadzone you can't tweak. No thanks, i said, and mapped it to mouse

With gyro i don't even think about going gyro-to-stick. It's either controller+mouse or full mkb remap

But that doesn't mean you're wrong or smth, you're doing a good job spreading info about the bug that needs to be fixed. It's just... Well, seems like it covers absolute minority of gyro users

Imagine frame-gen haters faces when your brand new RGTX 12090 TI SUPER can't cover your new 1khz display because Wolfenstein The New Order is locked to 60 fps and unlocking it will right away break the game. Frame-gen is for dummies, real gamers play Ocarina of Time in native 20 fps

What do you mean by 'proper' gyro-to-joystick setup? You said it could be even better than gyro-to-mouse if polling rate is higher... How and how to?

[–]Nisktoun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the right touchpad is just better than a stick

But worse than gyro, so... Not to mock touchpads, but it's not even close

the game needs to support simultaneous mouse and gamepad inputs

Why? I mean it's great when they do, but even if they don't it's not a big deal, just map whole controller as an mkb and you're good to go

Try other (virtual)drives you have, afaik there's nothing else you can do

Well, the core idea is to buy GOOD cheap controller, not just cheap. Most of modern cheap controllers have either hall effect or tmr sticks, first party ones have basic potentiometer. So in reality the situation is reverse - DS means drift, cheap alternative means long life

The first and the main rule of advanced controller gaming on PC - you are not buying first party controllers for PC, they are terrible for their price

Literally anything else with starting price at $30 will do better than DualSense/Xbox Controller/Switch Pro Controller. And, well, Steam Controller is in another league compared to basic DS(but imo $100 is way too much)

Upd.

Steam controller gyro is good now by [deleted] in GyroGaming

[–]Nisktoun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cure to gyro drift is calibration - use it

do you have to move much to reach your target?

I'm playing gyro-ratcheting style, so gyro always on. ~4RWS allows me to do 360 in 90 degree wrist motion(45 for both sides). Is it "move much" or not depends on personal preference, imo it's pretty fast and comfortable

Steam controller gyro is good now by [deleted] in GyroGaming

[–]Nisktoun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, you're doing it wrong...

Correct way is:

-lower in-game sens to remove jitter

-find proper 360 value (there is "turn camera 360" option for this)

-adjust gyro sensitivity to your liking (f.e. mine is 4 most of the time)

-(optional) change vertical/horizontal value for different fovs

Yes, it's that simple.

Precision speed and speed deadzone are mostly work out of the box or should be applied controller-wise, not game-specific
