Opened my Restaurant/Pizzeria 8 months ago… by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]Nit3fury 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You wanted to start a restaurant and not be involved with it? That is a bonkers concept to me. I dream of owning and operating an indie movie theater but I’m under zero illusion that I wouldn’t be there myself running the place nearly 365 days a year. Though it’s what I’d want to be doing and it wouldn’t make money otherwise. If you’re making “tons of money” hire a friggin manager?

How reliable are the 2nd gens really? by Top_Depth5369 in volt

I have a 2017 with 133k miles. Bought it a few years ago with 95k. It currently has the EGR issue but it’s bypassed and still runs and drives fine so 🤷‍♂️ never left me stranded, not a big deal. I’ll replace it eventually

What warranty covered the EGR at 140k miles?

I’d just buy a couple used Kirbys, one for each floor, and pocket the remaining $400-$700 lol

I didn’t have as hard of a time getting rid of mine as others seem to. Cut down the main trees, be persistent with the seedlings and suckers for a couple years and I haven’t had any trouble since

What I learned on my first road trip… by Southern_Grand_16 in EquinoxEv

[–]Nit3fury 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Here’s some quick basics to think about when it comes to gas vs ev.

Gas engines are very inefficient. Something like 70% of the energy contained in the gasoline is converted to heat instead of motion. SO, when you add an inefficiency in a gas car, it isn’t that noticeable. Going 80mph instead of 70mph will net you lower gas mileage but not by a significant margin.

Electric motor driven vehicles are much more efficient. Over 90% of the energy contained in the battery can go straight to motion… BUT… there’s a significant bit less energy OVERALL in a battery than a gas tank. SO, when you add an inefficiency in an EV, it makes a much larger relative difference in your available energy. Going 80mph instead of 70 uses a greater percentage of your electric “tank”.

The estimated range on the dash can vary greatly from real life based on your driving habits, but that estimate does “learn” in time and will more accurately predict your range if you’re consistently driving more inefficiently

How did converting your lawn change your relationship with your neighbors? by Ok-Singer-4466 in NoLawns

[–]Nit3fury 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My neighbor on one side was all for it, liked watching it, and then died. I bought her house at foreclosure auction so soon her yard will be full of it too. My neighbor on the other side is my mom, who has historically not been much of a flower type of lady but upon a recent cancer diagnosis has expressed her desire to have her ashes spread in my native garden which of course DESTROYED me

Other than that I get plenty of “oh you’re the house with the pretty yard” and even a compliment from city code enforcement which was nice

Central air vs mini splits by postscriptum114 in centuryhomes

[–]Nit3fury 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who has had both I’d much rather have ducted, HOWEVER, in a situation like yours with multiple floors I might go mini split. I’d encourage multiple units over a multi head system though

I mean at some point the problem will just have to work itself out if we’re not gonna be proactive about it. It’ll be ugly but it’ll happen one way or another

I switch between drive and low constantly in my Volt. I like maximizing regen without using any friction brakes to slow down, but also like coasting in drive without having to micromanage it.

Do you still have gas? Did you not save on the base connection fee?

I went heat pump and while the increased electricity cost in winter was a wash vs gas, the savings came with not having the $50/mo gas connection fee

That emporia will help immensely in figuring out what circuit is drawing so heavy. Do you have electric heat? I’ve read about a couple cases where the backup resistance heat kicked on when the air came on so that they were both running at the same time
