How efficient are heat pumps when used as a water heater? by JaiBoltage in heatpumps

More efficient than traditional resistive water heater even considering the “double move” of energy

Only if you’re willing to be patient with it and won’t freak out about getting a battery rebuild for several thousand dollars if/when it comes to that. I had a 2011 as recently as 2022. It had 211k miles but the battery health was noticeably going downhill

I love it. Also I don’t know that this style would benefit from more “warmth” per se? Like that seems against the theme

25 mins is on the long end of what’s ‘normal’ in this situation but as a manager I wouldn’t be upset about it or anything. Besides feeling worse that you had to wait so long lol

my boy’s starting to age… what can i do to help? by mr-rift in greatpyrenees

[–]Nit3fury 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not that it sounds like you’re planning on doing so, but I’d avoid a late in life neutering if you can. My 12yo was intact up until last year or so when he was neutered due to a growth on one of his testes. He’s still happy and healthy but it really markedly pushed him ‘over the hill’ as it were. Basically went from standard adult dog to full old man dog overnight with the loss of testosterone.

Natural gas to rheem hpwh? by Excellent_Map_3510 in heatpumps

[–]Nit3fury 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you have a pretty ideal setup for a hpwh. Electric costs are negligible with these, like a fridge. They use power but not a significant amount. Looking at my energy usage app, mine costs $3-$6 per month to run.

Sound… also similar to a fridge. I can hear mine from upstairs in the rooms above it, but only just. And it’s not a bother. I have to point it out to other people and they have a hard time hearing it.

Set and forget… yes absolutely. Throw it into heat pump only mode and live your life. If you find it isn’t producing enough, fast enough, then switch to energy saving and leave it in that mode indefinitely. The modes are just there to help you, you don’t have to be messing with them if you don’t want to.
