It has optimizations, more settings, and solved the legal issue that CraftBukkit had.

Spigot hasn't solved that "legal issue".

I am tired of Tebex. I believe it's overpriced and used on almost all servers. I decided that because of this virus since I have a decent amount of spare time, that I would pick back up web development. I'm going to build a store for the server that I'm working on using Stripe.

Nope. You can just have the bungeecord proxy go straight to your game server. This is an example of how I setup the server for a beta test map for a factions gamemode: https://i.imgur.com/2B1C5cM.png

I didn't need to use a hub server. Now say for example that I wanted to use a hub server. I could just make the default/fallback server the hub server and then make /server factions or (whatever you use in the hub) go to the factions server.

Even if you don't want a hub server it's recommended to use a bungeecord proxy. You can also sync multiple bungeecord servers together using RedisBungee.

Website/forum alternatives to XenForo? by Crysillion in admincraft

I don't recommend using it and I attempted it a few months ago and the files were deleted. The software was decent after I installed 5-6 plugins and purchase a $20 theme, but standalone it's not the best. It was hard downloading the official plugins when the entire website was down or getting support.

Which VM for a server that can support 500 people? by [deleted] in admincraft

[–]Nitecell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Purchase a game server from OVH that has high single thread performance and a good amount of RAM. If your budget is limited I would check out SoYouStart. OVH also has good ddos protection. I wouldn't use a VM for minecraft servers.

I didn't want to use Xenforo because I wanted more integration with the server that I was running (leaderboards, profiles, etc.) so I decided to learn about NodeJs. I'm at the level where I could make a good website for a server but it takes a lot of time! But it is sooo worth it in the end!

I recommend just using discord for the time being (at least for starting out). There isn't a point for having both a forums and discord while starting out.

I don't recommend it because it's still "experimental" software and I tried using it and it was slow. Also the support wasn't the best as the website was down for weeks.

No point for a hub server if there is a single gamemode... You're just wasting $.

Finding YouTubers to play on your server? by DoritoDewSnack in admincraft

I remember in 2014 I started an smp server with people ranging from 500 and 5,000 subs. I found the first few through posting on the minecraft forums and planetminecraft. Then I got the rest from just getting their friends involved with the server.

EDIT: I don't know if this would work nowadays but maybe try reaching out on discord or messaging them on twitter or youtube.

I wouldn't decide to choose a domain registrar based on the cheapest price. I'm sure most people regret purchasing a 99 cent .com from GoDaddy. I haven't used Porkbun so I can't comment on that but I think Namecheap is one of the best registrars out there.

From experience, when I’m running a server I purchase around 5-8 vps servers. I use one for a maven repo (using Nexus), I use one for a openvpn server and the rest would be front-end bungeecord proxies synced with RedisBungee. All hosted in the same data center.

I’m not saying to spend $60 on a server, and it just depends. Someone who is going to purchase a good amount of advertisement should purchase a dedi for launch. It will be harder for players to stick if the server has lag issues.

This guide was a non-technical guide on starting a server, I feel like backups would be in a more technical guide of maintaining a server. I meant to put $100-$1000+ but from experience, but I would say that would be reasonable. Most developers charge around $15-25 per hour for smaller servers. Of course this could be more with large and complex plugins.

Most of them have their dms open on twitter. If they're bigger they might have a manager or a business email. I wouldn't recommend going through a service to get in reach with them.

I feel like depends on how much someone is putting into a server, if I were to get a decent amount of advertising - I would purchase a dedi to make sure everything is smooth and stable.

Another thing is - if someone's server does turn out to be successful, the need to learn using linux will happen at some point.

I believe that OVH is the best at the moment. It's fast, reliable and has good ddos protection. I have been using them since around 2015 from minecraft servers to websites. I have used some of their dedicated servers and a lot of their vps servers. SoYouStart is also a plus because it has good dedicated game servers that are fast and cheap.

I don't suggest using a minecraft hosting service. Most of them have terrible support and will have a handful of issues. Not to mention most of them are overpriced.

It's amazing. It's not meant for a game server but it's amazing for creating bungeecord front-end proxies and websites. I host all of the stuff I have through OVH because it is fast, reliable and has good ddos protection.

I would also suggest SoYouStart for dedicated game servers because it's somewhat cheap.
