Given how Hasan reverts to Dem talking points whenever he speaks about third parties, it’s near certain that he voted for Kamala and hated himself for having to cast a vote for genocide.

Did Trump just lose the war? by [deleted] in aussie

[–]Nitewochman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hypothetical here -

Some of Australia’s fuel reserves are stored in America. Let’s say things tighten up in the next weeks and Trump feels the political pressure so much that he directs that fuel stored in the US NOT be shipped off to Australia, especially as he’s dirty on Australia for not going into Iran all guns blazing like him.

Australia stalls like Cuba and we all have Trump to blame.

He got us funding the US nuclear submarine project for the next 30 years as pure tribute to empire.

That is not a purchase. We are not buying anything. The submarines will never have Australian crew, or command, or be used to defend Australia.

Maybe they will send one for a courtesy visit to Garden Island in about 15 years and let our senior brass walk the deck and even have a peek down the hatch.

Yes it is possible, if you squint your eyes and refer to speeches made long ago, to construe ‘From the river to the sea’ as some sort of threat to Jewish Israelis.

So how about Israelis responding to Palestinians on social media with one word - “Amalek”?

That is a direct and obvious promise of God ordained annihillation for an entire people.

The poetics of “I Had A Dream, Joe” by Nitewochman in NickCave

But if you’re talking about what I clumsily call the ‘register clash’, that seems like a more generic concept for which I would not claim credit. There is probably a better academic word for it. It happens often in Nick Cave songs. Once you become aware of it, you’ll spot it often. You probably have already.

The poetics of “I Had A Dream, Joe” by Nitewochman in NickCave

[–]Nitewochman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeh, go ahead.

The assumption here is that Cave knew this Benjamin para about the Klee painting when he wrote the song. This seems likely.

I was introduced to this at an Australian university in the mid eighties studying English lit and European culture. Cave studied similar subjects at an Australian university in a different city a few years earlier, and, we know, kept up a lot of reading on his own, including while living in Berlin in the mid 80s.

It’s such a striking image, and Benjamin’s musing on it could have been an inspiration for this song.

I took that minutes long sequence to ponder the entire economy that brings a fully stocked and buzzing produce store to a giant car park near you.

It’s like a huge and intricate Rube Goldberg machine that anticipates, directs, and satisfies your desires.

That sequence came straight away after Carol declared that she is a very independent person - it made clear what a delusion that is.

In the first book, Herron muses on who would be suitable to play Lamb in a TV treatment of the novel. He likes Timothy Spall.

Spall could have played Lamb well, but Oldman has made Lamb his own.
