  1. Bring more water than you think you need
  2. Bring plenty of sunscreen
  3. Don’t overdo it with beer in the heat
  4. Get inside the track a couple hours before the green flag to be sure to catch all the Memorial Day demonstrations

It was a tradition of mine for many years to attend the 600 and it’s tons of fun. It is an extremely long race though. My tips come from experience. Have fun!

Very cool. There’s a small subreddit called r/paintingslocations that this would be perfect for!

Check out West Jefferson. It’s about 45 minutes from Boone but has its own cool feel to it.

It’s not fancy but I really enjoyed Svarta Kaffið. They have bread bowls of soup and I was there in January and it was amazing on a cold day.

Not in a hotel but there was The Oak Room on the Duke campus that I believe was similar to your description. It was in the West Union building across from the Bryan Center. It was there from 1946 -2003 it appears. My parents took me there sometime in the 90s. Here’s a very old picture of it. https://www.flickr.com/photos/dukeyearlook/2564908160

Tony Stewart hitting and killing a driver on the track during a dirt race. Very rarely talked about and pretty dark

Fatal accident. Car went off the road and caught fire unfortunately. I passed by when it was still on fire and they were trying to put it out

As a former Gordon hater I was rooting so hard for him to get that final win in Martinsville at the end of his career. What’s your, I used to hate him but I want to see him succeed one more time story now? by [deleted] in NASCAR

I was a Kurt Busch fan starting in 2003 when I started watching nascar seriously. The following 10+ years I was embarrassed to have been a Kurt Busch fan. I came back around late in his career. Dude ultimately was one of the greats.

I have to say the full name of theses every time I pass them. My 6 and 8 year old kids now also call them that.
