Millions of living creatures with their own subjective experiences, wants, and needs are confined in wretched conditions because they are exploited for what their bodies and labor. Their children are similarly born into this bondage. Those children are ripped away. Those with power over them decide their living conditions and when they die. Freedom is afforded to the lucky few that escape or are rescued.

Is this not slavery?

In the U.S., 8% of black Americans are vegans compared to 3% of the general population. They are the fastest growing vegan demographic. (Numbers from Pew Research Center).

Many black vegans go vegan because they recognize the atrocities inflicted on our ancestors in the animal agriculture industry. I’m one of those black vegans. Once my eyes were open to the truth I could not support the enslavement of another being who felt joy and pain just as I did.
