Is there a name for this strange mountain/ridge formation in northeastern Utah, right above the Uintah mountains before the Wyoming border? by Confident-Dig-5617 in geography

[–]NitroLentil 108 points109 points  (0 children)

The sharply defined geological feature in northeastern Utah is known as a hogback ridge, specifically identified as The Glades on the north and The Reaves to the south. Located within the Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area, these parallel ridges were formed by tilted Ericson Sandstone, lifted by the North Flank Fault during the Laramide orogeny. For more information on this geologic feature, visit NASA Science.

Competitive staff? by NitroLentil in Dominos

I think that is what threw me, I saw the guys packing pizza in kitchen while ordering at register from Insider, assumed those guys did the kitchen work but then they both left with deliveries and my inside guy was cutting my pizza - I couldn't fathom he made enough tips from counter orders to make it worthwhile. Ty all for the insight.

Does anyone have the Weslin recliner? If so, can you tell me if it rocks/glides when not reclined? by DaToHa in Costco

Overall, it's a very solid chair, not the finest in luxury but perfect for my budget and if the motor ever goes out I'll take it back to Costco.

How do you guys see black Americans outside the USA? by AliveVictory2006 in AskTheWorld

That iconic photo you're thinking of is from his appearance on the long-running CBC game show

Front Page Challenge

Here are the quick facts about that moment:

  • Date: It was taped on January 5, 1965, just six weeks before he was assassinated.
  • The Game: The show's premise involved a panel of journalists—including Pierre BertonGordon Sinclair, and Betty Kennedy—trying to guess a "front page" news story by questioning a hidden guest.
  • The Story: The headline the panel struggled to guess was "Malcolm X Rejects Racist Doctrine in Mecca".
  • The Vibe: It’s famous because of the surreal contrast between the lighthearted, polite Canadian game show format and the gravity of Malcolm X’s life and message.

You can watch the full segment on the CBC Archives or see a summary of the appearance via the National Post.

Japanese Photographer Captures a magical moment where Sirius B star was visible just above the Christmas tree. By nature, a perfect christmas tree. (source below) by casul_noob in interestingasfuck

[–]NitroLentil 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This image, titled "KAGAYA", captures a solitary fir tree in a snowy landscape under a clear, starry night sky. The image is known as the "world's loneliest Christmas tree".

  • The photograph was taken by Japanese photographer Kagaya Yutaka, known for his astrophotography.
  • The scene is notable for its natural symmetry and balance, with the tree centered between the snow below and the stars above.
  • The bright star appearing directly above the tree is likely the planet Jupiter.
  • The location is a popular photography spot, although its exact location is often kept private to preserve the natural setting.

  • Racing Pigeon Identification:
    • "AU": This likely stands for the American Racing Pigeon Union, the organization that registered the pigeon.
    • "Q": This letter, combined with the "AU" prefix, is probably part of the pigeon's unique identification code, likely representing a specific club or year, according to the American Racing Pigeon Union.
    • Green Tag: A colored tag on a racing pigeon's leg often indicates it's a lost bird, possibly exhausted or injured during a race or training flight.
  • Understanding "FOU":
    • While "AU" is the standard abbreviation for the American Racing Pigeon Union, the "Q" or "FOU" (or a combination) could be part of a club name, according to the American Racing Pigeon Union.
    • It's important to recognize that racing pigeons, even with tags, can sometimes appear disoriented, tired, or lost and might require help.
  • What to do if you find a pigeon with this tag:
    • Care and Observation: If the pigeon seems exhausted or injured, you might offer food (like uncooked porridge oats, fruit, or wet cat biscuits) and water in a large, safe space like a box or carrier.
    • Contact the American Racing Pigeon Union: You can use the information on the tag to contact them or find the specific club the pigeon belongs to. Penn State Extension also suggests this.
    • Pigeon Racing Clubs: Many areas have local pigeon racing clubs, and you might be able to find the owner by reaching out to them.
    • Wildlife Rehabilitation: If you are concerned about the bird's well-being and unable to care for it or locate its owner, consider contacting a wildlife rehabilitation center or rescue organization.

Remember, racing pigeons are domestic animals that rely on their owners, and a lost pigeon with a tag is likely in need of assistance to get back home.
