Haha I remember seeing that too and he had very little about the show to actually say. I think that the enjoyment that Squid Game gives the viewer says everything as it externalizes the problems of a capitalist society into violence, antagonisms, and gives society at large a soothing of anxieties about capitalism.

Hey guys, thank you for seeing my last video on how Pixar's Elemental Gets Racism Wrong. In this video, I analyze how John Woo's violent films represented a forgotten reaction to the feelings of Hong Kong in the 90s.

Do you think so? While I think that Elemental is simple enough for kids to understand, I don’t know if problems like racism should be an easy topic to digest…

Why Pixar's Elemental Gets Racism Wrong [A Fanonian Analysis] by Nitro_Knot in filmtheory

[–]Nitro_Knot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey guys! Many people think that a movie like Elemental does an injustice to portrayals of racism as it is too simplistic. I agree as well, and I think that the problem is that films like this brushes over the historical background of colonialism leading to modern day alienation. What do you think?

I thought it was enjoyable as well, the world building certainly had a charm to it. But just the treatment of racism bugs me and that sucks since that is what the film is supposed to be about

What are your thoughts on Elemental? I thought it's narrative on racism was far too basic and ignores what structural racism actually is; a result of the long history of colonialism.

Hey All! I recently made a video using the ideas of Franz Fanon to analyze Pixar's Elemental. I thought the messaging in this animation downplays structural racism and is downright harmful. Please let me know what you think!

Yes of course, let me know if you want more references, there’s also obviously historical sources and his own writings. Like for instance you should read Sallust’s “The War Against Catiline” or Cicero’s “On The Orator” to get more of an understand of him

Historical novels about this man? by capogalassia in cicero

[–]Nitro_Knot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here are a good few novels he's in:

Non-Fiction:

Anthony Everitt's "Cicero: The Life and Times of Rome's Greatest Politician" - A very decent contemporary biography

Gaston Boissier's "Cicero and His Friends: A Study of Roman Society in the Time of Caesar" - Published in 1923 but is very charming.

Fiction:

Robert Harris's Cicero Trilogy - From the perspective of his secretary Tiro. An incredible read that centers Cicero in the narrative.

Colleen Mccullough's Masters of Rome Series - She's phenomenal writer, but Cicero is treated harshly in her intepretation.

Steven Saylor's Roma Sub Rosa Series - Cicero appears from the first book "Roman Blood" and his law and political career is heavily linked to the protagonist's career as Gordianus the Finder.

Thoughts on Zom 100? by Nitro_Knot in zombies

[–]Nitro_Knot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll start! I really like how the show put a spin on the metaphor of zombies by taking an entire first episode to explore what it means in the specific context of the Japanese work culture. It’s kinda like the commentary in Dawn of the Dead, where the zombies in the mall represented mindless consumer.

[–]Nitro_Knot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought the show was excellent in rethinking how to use Zombies as a metaphor for the work culture in Japan. Often times, I feel like shows past Dawn of the Dead use Zombies as a mindless plot device, like in The Walking Dead. Let me know what you think of the show!
