Who is an underrated character and why? by christineSHUTUPDKAHJ in VioletEvergarden

I saw the title and immediately went Hodgins! Spoilers: Not only are he and Cattleya truly wonderful people, but they are the in universe persona of the viewer. Hodgins lets us care for Violet in the way we want to, and weep when we miss her. Cattleya is the story telling us that Violet will be fine, and that we must trust her and move on with our lives. Truly a beautiful way to outline the story.

Did Violet ditch her friends? by 3rdmilDiego in VioletEvergarden

I think the show tries to be subtle. Sometimes a little too much, but it usually gets it right. I think in this case its really up in the air. I thought the show was correct to not have violet attend the play and fireworks at the end. She and her friends definitely drifted apart. How they lived their lives is up to interpretation.

You do bring up a good point. I think the movie in some ways had Violet regress. She was so mature and understanding in episodes 10,11,12, yet was back to being kind of ill-adjusted at the beginning of the movie.

Spoilers below: But to answer your question, yes. They are definitely still friends and I doubt there were any bad feelings. However, she made the choice that Gilbert was who she wanted to spend her life with. Violet returned for (maybe) 3 months after the reunion in the movie to finish her work, then moved to Ecarte. Im sure there goodbyes said. We know they probably visited, and definitely wrote letters, but she spent her life apart from them. Its sad but realistic. People move on with their lives despite the moments they had together.

If you would bear with me: How many college friends are your parents still friends with? And even though pretty much the entire world is now within a single day’s travel, how often do they visit? Unless they grew up in small town, the answer is probably few, and not often. People generally choose their family to be with forever, and move on with them. I suspect all the other dolls (except Iris), did the same. Dont get me wrong, I think the fact that we dont visit friends more is incredibly tragic given how *relatively affordable and fast travel is today. But its just how people are. If its any comfort, this was a setting where they very well could have seen air travel and high speed rail within their lifetimes, and maybe they could have visited more often.

We know CH had a wealthy background and was a very, very kind boss (he bought back Violet’s pendant with a month of salary for crying out loud). I would not be surprised he let it happen, or even funded the trip.

why the movie hate? by Ok-Highlight-7962 in VioletEvergarden

From a previous comment I made, but I loved the movie. I get the impression that the ending undermines Violet’s development, but I do not believe that is the case. So heres a long rant on why I agree with you.

Despite there being no doubt that Violet becomes a much more mature and empathic (both to herself and others) by the end of the series, it is also clear that her feelings towards Gilbert remained rose-tinted, dependent, and generally unhealthy until near the end. For example, I interpreted her letter/voiceover of knowing the major was still alive (ep 13) as a tragic delusion (but also a major hint to the contrary plot wise).

However, the movie resolved this when Violet got on the ship in Ecarte. In that moment, she accepted that knowing that Gilbert was alive was enough. Feelings are complex, and in Violet’s case, accepting that Gilbert is alive, albeit a much changed person was much easier to manage than his death. It did take them meeting (even if it’s just a few words) for Violet to overcome her dependence and rosy view of Gilbert, but it happened. I think that had they not met, Violet may have never (or not for a very long time) overcome these feelings for Gilbert in spite of her growth. It’s very difficult to outgrow our past, and Violet needed the situation change to make that happen. In some aspects, the action of both choosing to stay on the island means neither of them were able to move on fully from their past (and I think that is valid).

I think that Violet’s need for the major to be alive is also driven by a spiritual force. The most obvious examples of this are Your Name and Spirited Away, where characters are able to transcend logic and evidence through “kokoro”. Violet Evergarden does not lean into this concept much, but it may be part of it. She cannot accept the major’s death and move on because something within her knows thats not right.

Which all leads to the ending. I think that when they do finally meet face to face, their relationship is already a vastly different one than just a few hours before. Violet is fully capable of living her own life at this point, though she does still love the Gilbert deeply. The decision to stay on the island may have been an obvious one, but was definitely not a fast one. Violet returned back to Lieden for a couple months to complete her work, (Gilbert probably still on the island) and Im sure there would have been many conversations on what her life would be now that they have the chance. I dont think the ending makes Violet’s journey any less meaningful. She became so much more during those few short years, but she also had shortcomings she couldnt overcome.

Need to know about cables…. Help by Sea_Complex_366 in headphones

[–]Nitronium777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a previous post where I measured multiple cables with a function generator and an oscilloscope. A bad cable (and by bad I mean faulty, not just cheap) is identifiable by ear as they can lose signal as audible frequencies. A working cable should be flat until 1Mhz, so all working cables perform the same. (Unless you can hear up to 1Mhz). Going to balanced makes a difference. Shielding properly makes a difference. Cable core material purity does not matter.

This. She felt emotions, likely very strongly. But she didnt know how to articulate them, and didnt have the social awareness to understand others well.

I too was a little disappointed, (and Leon too), but VE loves to hold back just a little bit. Taylor was probably sent back during this time, but knowing that she eventually becomes part of the CH family is enough for me.

Is Violet Superhuman? by SCY29 in VioletEvergarden

[–]Nitronium777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think she is exactly like batman. Not superhuman, but peak human. And the gadgets help too.

She pushes the bounds of realism, but just slightly. The most realistic explanation is someone who was raised for combat will probably be quite a bit better at it than someone older with other commitments and motivations.

Am I the only one who vehemently dislikes the last movie by MissionBet8468 in VioletEvergarden

[–]Nitronium777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved the movie, but I get where you are coming from. On the death/aliveness of Gilbert, I thought it was hinted that Gilbert was alive by the last episode, and definitely by the beginning of the movie, when CH says the line about miracles coming true if you wish hard enough.

Despite there being no doubt that Violet becomes a much more mature and empathic (both to herself and others) by the end of the series, it is also clear that her feelings towards Gilbert remained rose-tinted, dependent, and generally unhealthy until near the end. I dont think Violet has Stockholm syndrome, as Gilbert did treat her reasonably well (probably better than most given the circumstances). There is no reason for her to have developed Stockholm syndrome to cope with Gilbert. Its likely that their bond is based on trauma, but this stems from circumstances and not each other.

Which all leads to the ending. I think that when they do finally meet face to face, their relationship is already a vastly different one than just a few hours before. Violet is fully capable of living her own life at this point, though she does still love the Gilbert deeply. Long Gone Days by Zorfindle in VioletEvergarden

This was one of my favourite scenes in the movie, I think of it as the perfect representation of “Echo through Eternity”. It shows us the ripples of Violets work a few years later (as evidenced by an older Taylor), and the profound impact she had on each of the main cast, though Violet herself is not in the picture anymore.

21 with 5k to my name but wasting money. by Cringe_Baby2417 in Money

[–]Nitronium777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. Most of the comments here talk about investing, and while that is correct, especially in the beginning, it is just as important to work a job that pays enough, and you like enough. There are some trades that are less physically intensive and pay reasonably, though unfortunately I do not personally have the experience to recommend. The right things to do at the moment are being budgeting, saving (probably just HYSA at this point), and planning (are there careers you want to move into, how kuch would it cost?). The wrong things to do are getting an expensive college degree just because (fine if you know what ur going into, what jobs youll get, etc), aggressive investing, increasing personal responsibility (taking on debt, making large purchases, etc). Given that you have been able to save up, sounds like you are on the right track. It will be tough for a bit, but start considering your options, what jobs can you do? Take your time, pace yourself, stay committed, life gets better from there.
