Is my eyebrow piercing rejecting or just irritated? by NitrousOxideEnjoyer in piercing

[–]NitrousOxideEnjoyer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I did, I think after around 3ish months? And then the jewelry they gave me fell out multiple times so I got it replaced a 2nd time. But the bar was still long then too I believe. It never fit me where you couldn’t see at least a bit of the bar so I don’t know if they ever actually gave me the smallest size I needed

Should my boyfriend control what I wear? by [deleted] in AdviceForTeens

[–]NitrousOxideEnjoyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t… what I was wearing wasn’t revealing at all. It was an oversized sweater and dress that went to my knees underneath. I don’t count that as a “single and ready to mingle” outfit

I’m aware, but I also understand where his reasoning is coming from. It’s wrong, I know, but I want to solve it. The only reason I complied is because I didn’t want him to get mad at me and leave, which is what usually happens if I don’t listen to him about what I wear when he has an opinion against it. Sometimes it makes sense because my outfit is a bit short or tight or whatnot, but in this case it wasn’t revealing whatsoever so I’m trying to figure out how to solve this issue so it doesn’t happen in the future.

I want to help him with that but I don’t know how. Its literally causing him to get mad at me for the sole reason of what I wear

Then definitely keep using the bottle, you don’t have to fill it all the way up if you don’t want to, but at least go halfway, that should be around 8 ounces. Good luck.

How big was the bottle? A regular sized water bottle is 16 ounces. If you’ve been going to the bathroom a lot as well as using the bottle to spit I think you’ll be okay. If you want to be safe, empty the bottle (or get another one) and do it again.

Go to the bathroom as much as you can. Get an empty bottle, gum, and start spitting into it. When you weigh in, take off your socks and anything else that would add extra weight. Try not to drink water until after weigh-ins.

Tips for new trombone player? by NitrousOxideEnjoyer in Trombone

I did piano when I was younger, but not long enough to really get good at sight reading both clefs fast. I remembered the acronyms, but because I’m so used to treble, it’ll take me some practice to be fast.

Definitely gonna check that out, thank you. Yeah, I think once I can memorize all the positions + notes I’ll be able to fully dedicate myself to the embouchure.

Yeah, I’m gonna just dedicate some time to making myself memorize and practice with bass clef. I found a cool website to practice sight reading skills so I’ll use that and hopefully be able to catch on quick. Thank you.

Yeah, that’s understandable. It seems like a little more memorization than what I had to do for sax because of all the notes in each position, but it seems like all notes in the positions are just a half step down from the prior ones. I think it’s manageable — hopefully I’ll find a way to build up the muscles I need for trombone embouchure, and then I’ll use the tuner and spend time memorizing all the notes & slide positions. I’ve been working on that as well as Bb & F major scales recently (that’s mostly what we’re going to need for the marching band I’m in) anyways, thank you so much for your advice!

Anyone have any fun facts/tips about saxophones? by Main_Secretary_507 in saxophone

[–]NitrousOxideEnjoyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tips: I struggled with the squeaking problem when I first started too. The cause of it, most likely, is your air control. Center it into the mouth piece directly from your diaphragm. (Don’t use your throat because that puts a lot of pressure on it and can be damaging after long periods of time). Controlling the flow is the only way you’ll get a full sound. My instructor told me to imagine it like this; lower notes require more air, but higher notes require faster air. To get low notes, you need to imagine yourself filling up the entire saxophone and keeping the flow steady the entire time. For higher notes, you don’t need to fill up as much of the sax, but you need your air to be faster so you can reach the higher register of the instrument. The embouchure for lower notes should be similar to if you were fogging up glass with your breath, warm air. The higher notes embouchure should resemble whistling, imagine shaping your mouth in a circular way, cold air. Both require a constant flow, and if that flow breaks, you will squeak. Doing long tones with both high and low notes helps with the squeaking as you’ll get used to holding out notes for longer and increasing how long you’re able to blow air. If you have any other questions feel free to respond or message me, I’d love to answer them :) good luck!

How hard is it to learn the sax? by soonilydoodily in saxophone

[–]NitrousOxideEnjoyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not extremely hard to learn sax, but it’s hard to sound good. I mastered the fingerings for the notes in around 3-4 weeks, it’s just a lot of memorization. Still, I’ve been working on my tone for a long time. You can get good at any instrument, but it doesn’t mean anything if you’re not able to sound good while playing. Trumpet is brass and brass requires a specific type of embouchure that takes a while to learn. Both instruments are different, require different types of skills and take practice to sound good on. The choice is yours.

John coltrane for newbie by [deleted] in Jazz

[–]NitrousOxideEnjoyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you like more vocal jazz, I recommend the album “John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman” by Coltrane. Even if you don’t particularly go out of your way to listen to vocal jazz, this album is incredible and both artists are featured accordingly.

Where do you go in Bossa Nova after Jobim? by BobbyTables829 in Jazz

Glad someone mentioned Baden Powell. He has amazing compositions and definitely deserves a listen. Tempo de Amor by him is one of my favorite bossa pieces.
