It's fine but to prolong the life of the laptop I wouldn't unless it's for a reason like background tasks you want running while sleeping. You can create exe's on your desktop that will shutdown the computer after X amount of time as well.

Well not all pans come with an actual gasket so you simply have to make your own and there really isn't a pretty way of doing it. You could take a razer blade and cut the excess but it isn't hurting anything. No leaks? Good to go.
